My new project on the way!!

OK after have see the Backslash on the Traxxas forum (slash convert into 1/8 scale buggy) i've decided to make one me too, but a little more conplexe.
I've decided to make my own frame, in an 1/8" aluminium plate.
The main goak why i,ve decided to make a new frame is simple, i want the motor INSIDE the buggy, and not on the back, like the original slash.
To do this, i've turn the tranny on 180 degre.
I've order the Rustler upper chassis to fix the steering rack.
I've order a Kyosho MP 777 proline body, and i must wait for it before to finalise the shape of the frame.
The wing mount will be a JConcept wing mount for revo, and the wing will be an Ofna red high down force.
Take a look at this pics, it's basics, but the projet is on the way:yipi:

EXCELLENT idea david, do you mind if i also build one myself just for the hell of it? ive got a nice pretty piece of 3mm 6061 T6 plate here ive been wondering what to do with.

lincpimp 10.30.2008 01:00 AM

Looks cool, I was thinking about doing the same thing. I have my slash with 17mm hexes and the full offset wheels. It looks good, but the center of the chassis is too tall for my taste. A scratch built chassis looks like a good idea to me! I look forward to seeing your progress.

What's_nitro? 10.30.2008 01:05 AM

Hey david! That looks somewhat familiar-

This a previous incarnation of my Rustler. The tranny flipping works wonders for corner handling. I think you'll be pleased with that. Just be careful accelerating because it does remove weight from the rear end.

Very good idea, David. My Rustler with custom chassis/reversed tranny has been sitting for quite some time now... Perhaps I should resurrect it in this same fashion. Thanks for the inspiration! And now I'll be watching your project.

What's_nitro? 10.30.2008 01:11 AM

I'll be watching too. Perhaps at some point I'll reconfigure the Rustler again.

rootar 10.30.2008 01:30 AM

as i under stood the ejato's never handle as good as a normal style truck....if this is true i might pass on doing this. would the extra 1.5" of wheelbase help?

It makes the turning radius larger, which makes the truck less likely to spin out if you turn to quickly. It also make the steering more precise since the overall change in the radius is less.

BrianG 10.30.2008 01:34 AM

Yeah, my e-jato is pretty squirrely on the rear end. Good on asphalt, bad on dirt. Having the motor hanging off the back seems to work much better for dirt track racing. I guess it depends on the application. Putting the motor in front does help tame wheelies though.

...But squirrels are fun!!!

BrianG 10.30.2008 01:38 AM

And yummy too. But not good for handling...

DRIFT_BUGGY 10.30.2008 05:20 AM

Sweet, wish I had the time and money to do projects like this

rootar 10.30.2008 07:37 AM

hmmm i have enough trouble getting traction as it is.... still wanna see how it turns out.

:whistle:Don't think that somebody had do this before:whistle:excuse me to having take your idea, but i realy don't know it:neutral:
But your Rustler look very good. Can you tell me which shock have you put on rear and on front??

Hey james, the design of the chasis is not finish yet, i wait for the MP777 body for have the good lenght and wide, and i'll redisign it next week, as soon as i'll have the body.
The only missing thing will be the 17mm adapters that you've order for me:wink:

I'll keep you inform of the projet each time i'll do something new:yes:

Forget to tell you that i'll lightly bend the chassis on each side (like on a stadium chassis) to give some strenght to the aluminium plate, because it's not a 7075-t6 plate, it's a standard, realy easy to drill aluminium.

david lamontagn 10.30.2008 12:15 PM

Just find a 3.11mm carbon fiber plate for a great price. So i've decided to continue the projet with a carbon fiber plate to the place of the aluminium one.

Thanks David. I can't take credit for this idea either. I don't know who did it first, but I doubt it was me.

The rear shocks are Proline Powerstroke shocks. They are amazing in both quality and performance, but good luck finding a set. They aren't being made anymore. The front shocks are the front shocks off a Duratrax Evader buggy. I do want to replace them with something else as they aren't quite as long as I'd want. The springs aren't very stiff either, hence they are almost 100% pre-loaded.

Oo carbon fiber! Nice! You'll need to figure out a method for bracing since you wont be able to bend the edges up like the aluminum. It will be much lighter though.

david lamontagn 10.31.2008 01:31 AM

Nice! I have a friend who sell a kit of power stoke shock for a great price.
For the bracing of the carbon fiber chassis, no problem, i'll use a set of rustler turnbuckle.

BL_RV0 10.31.2008 09:18 AM

Very cool. I hope to see more progress soon!

david lamontagn 11.20.2008 11:24 PM

OK dear friends, here is the most recet pics of my project, almost done.
The only missing item is my MMM V3, but i'll have it next week, it's E-Mike who've it and it is suppose to ship it to me this week-end.
For the body, i'll take my time and make a great paint job during this long winter.
I've make the frame in aluminium, but this winter i'll make a final frame in my 3.2mm carbon plate.
Here's the pics:
