Need Help picking new Brushless System

Hi, I am very interested in getting a new brushless setup for my e-maxx. I do not have enough money for something like a plettenberg motor or schultz speed control. I am currently running the Novak HV-Maxx, but have ran it into protection mode too many times by overheating it and I think the bearings inside the motor have gone bad.

Anyway, I want to run 8 cell matched packs and either a Feigao 10L or 9L and I wanted to know how much of a diference I will notice using a speed control like the BK Electronics 12020 Warrior which is rated at 120 amps versus the BK Warrior 9920 which is rated at 99 amps. Is this a good setup? I heard the Feigao motors have the best bang for the buck.

I could give your 12 reasons why not to buy a schulze setup.. :p

What do you mean? you mean you are going to run a 8cell setup or a 2X8 cell= 16 cells setup? 8 cells is net enough for a truck, you need more cells, when it are 16 cells you are talking about, i would take a 8-9XL and a 9920 as controller.

About them Feigao's being the best bang for the buck; Yups! that is the truth! They can be compared in what you call a highend setup, such as the plettenberg/schulze combo.

coolhandcountry 11.24.2005 09:40 AM

You can run the 7xl 8xl and 9xl on the 9920. I like the 9xl over the 7xl for the longer run time and same power factor. It is only a couple dollars more than the hvmaxx. I sold my hv for something better.

Hi Flossin', and welcome to the RCM forum! THE place for BL and Maxx related questions :D

I agree with the others (assuming you meant 2 x 8 cells)
Get an XL over the L. For 16 cells, if you want speeed, go 7XL. For runtime, go 9XL.

Those motors can be run on the 99amp ESC. Not a problem. But a fan on the ESC and/or motor never hurts.

Thanks guys. Ya I will be running a total of 16 cells. Sorry I didn't say so. Ha, an 8 cell setup would be pretty weak. I'm gonna try to get a nice set of matched 3300s that push some nice voltage.

I have a pair of B&T Matched Blister Packs rated at 1.200 Volts that pushed my HV-Maxx setup pretty well, but then I found out they were only rated at 20 amps so I'm lookin to get a nice pair of 8 cells somewhere near 1.200 Volts but at 30 amps instead of 20 for my new feigao setup. So you guys say the 9xl is the way to go for 16 cells then?

Thanks for the info guys!

YEah, i would take a 9XL! and get a set of the IB3800's they will serve you well.

Flossin22s 11.24.2005 02:49 PM

Sounds good, anyone know a good place to get some nice Matched IB 3800's? I checked ebay, but most people are selling just 6.

squeeforever 11.24.2005 02:59 PM

pm mike, im pretty sure he can get them. i know he has matched 6 cell packs for 35 buck. i would vet 3 and have 2 extra cells incase one goes bad.

Yeah, mike is the man ! he can get them for you. And even solder them in the right configuration if you want.. (if he has got time though.. ) ;)

Try mike first , or try pro-match racing.com . I bought 2 7cell packs of ibc 3800's , the #'s are 1.18 & up for $ 128.00 shipped. This #'s are at 30 amps not 20 amp's like other battery matchers.

coolhandcountry 11.24.2005 07:10 PM

There is a guy on the forum. Goes by boom boom batteries. He is in with mike I think. I don't really know. check with mike and him.

I am not saying a 9xl is for you. It is not for everyone but it is a motor that I like personally. Even better than a 7xl. I have not ran a 8xl so I don't know much about them. The 9xl is a good motor for run time and power. I can run 25 min on gp3700 16 cells.

toby 11.24.2005 09:09 PM

So in my gmaxx should i run my 7XL or a 9XL. i was going to put the 7XL in the emaxx and buy a new motor for the savage, but i will be racing the emaxx and abshing the savage, so maybe i should do the bigger motor i nthe emaxx when it comes to racing time????

coolhandcountry 11.24.2005 09:29 PM

It comes down to how long you are going to race toby. don't try to run a 30 min race with 10 min run time. It won't be good. the 7xl is a good motor. I just have come to like the 9xl better. I want to try a 8xl out so I can compare the three.

toby 11.24.2005 09:51 PM

i will just be racing in an unlimited MT calss against everything, just normal races i guess.

nbcaznmaster 11.24.2005 11:02 PM

boomboom batts got 3800, but not matched.

squeeforever 11.25.2005 12:35 AM

toby, how long are the mains?

RC-Monster Mike 11.25.2005 12:53 AM

I can get pretty much any batteries you need. I have many listed in the store, and also carry the promatched batteries, so just let me know what you need and I will make it happen for you!
Toby - for 5 minute races, the 7xl will serve you very well.

Serum 11.25.2005 02:20 AM

If you need only 5 minutes of power, the 7XL would be my choice as well. if you are looking for longer runtime, go for the 8-9 XL

Flossin22s 12.03.2005 05:24 PM

Hey guys, I just sold a bunch of stuff on eBay to get some funds for my new brushless setup. I'm pretty set on going with a Feigao 9xL motor and the BK Electronics 12020 Warrior. I have two concerns.

1. Is the Lehner 1940 brushless motor for $285 a good motor or should I just stick with the Feigao?

2. I will be running a G-Maxx single speed tranny with stock gears, how will it hold up to the power? I am not able to locate any aluminum tranny gears anywhere. Does anyone know where to get them?

Thanks again for all your help. I should have pictures up soon of what I hope to be "masterpiece" lol

squeeforever 12.03.2005 06:05 PM

i would stick with the feigao unless you have the extra money for the lehner although i would go for the 1950. also, the g-maxx single speed with a steel idle from mike will be pretty much bulletproof.

So reading this thread it come's to this 7XL for speed and 9XL for run time accordingly.

But in the same truck wiht lets say 16 cells what will exactly be
the run time and top speed diverens??

coolhandcountry 12.03.2005 08:26 PM

a 9xl gets about 20-25 min of run time on gp3700 I get about 10 if i be easy on the 7xl.

Okay and what is the difference in top speed?

coolhandcountry 12.03.2005 08:42 PM

I can gear the 9xl up to run about the same speed as the 7xl normally geared. I can gear the 7xl up but i have to watch my temps. The 7xl will make the schulze thermal if geared hi. I have ran the 9xl with 20 51 gearing mod 1 pitch and 1/8 buggy diffs.

mack 12.03.2005 08:46 PM

I have seen your videos and I have to say on 16 cells 9XL way inpresive:D :D :D

coolhandcountry 12.03.2005 08:54 PM

I want some new videos now. Just have to wait though. I want to take my new truck for test drive. I hope it does even better than the 9xl. Not sure why. :D Just got a need for speed. I need to get some of the 7xl but the truck is tore apart now. :( It will be better and strong next time.

You now want to go to the 7XL:C: ??
way you don"t put more volts on your 9XL
or maby a 10XL on 24cells or the same volts on lipo?
Then it will probelby fly

coolhandcountry 12.03.2005 09:08 PM

I went back to the 7xl for a little bit. I put the 9xl on my mgt.
I have something better than the 7xl. :D
here is the thread on my truck
