Do it your self hard case for lipos?????
I am looking for a case that i can use to make my soft packs into a hard case. I did find this form max amps but it seems pricey for what it is. And you would need 2 for one battery. http://www.maxamps.com/MA-SKIN-KIT-STD.htm
Does anyone know where to get something like this? |
You could just get some 1/16" thick (or thereabouts) Lexan and heat/bend it to the shape you want. Then, glue any edges together...
omg never even crossed my mind of that. Home depot should have that too. Yeah that would work perfect. Wrap the plastic then shrink it and good to go. thanks
Since the heat required to bend the lexan may be unhealthy for your lipos, I would cut a block of wood the same size as your pack and use that as the form. It should slide out and allow you to slide the pack in. And yeah, instead of glueing, you could just use heatshrink to keep the case together...

Trash bags and duct tape sound like a good idea:lol:
lol, not exactly a "hard" case, eh? Unless your definition of hard is comparable to the rigidity of a hefty bag. If that is the case, I feel sorry for your woman.
yeah i really like my trakpower packs but they are pricey and would really love to get some zippy's but just hard case them my self. I have actually used duct tape before as it does work good just not as pretty

My woman is quite happy, and so is the pool guy... Hmmm, wonder what that is all about? Come to think about it, the gardener, mailman, and ups guy are always smiling too... Weird. I am sure that it is just a coincidence. |
Wow guys, this is too much..
Reading through the roar rules it says that the lipo must have a hard case from the manufacturer. What if it was an aftermarket case like maxamps? would that legalize the packs if they passed all tests? |
I remember reading a guide on a RCZone ages ago on making your own hardcase for lipos, along the lines of what Brian said...but basically taking some 0.060" lexan and making a box net out of it to suit the lipo. Then just fold it and glue it altogeter and shrinkwrap it. Works great. :-)
I don't believe ROAR will allow an "aftwermarket" or custom case like the MaxAmps ones, as they still can't offer the same level of protection...but I could be wrong. |
i dont need it to be roar legal just want it protected for my own liking. My track doesnt require hard cases so i am all set.

bl i think there might be some incest problems here? You're right better you not go into it.
ha ha  That popped into my head too, but I let it go.
Hmmm. I wonder what it would have been like if you had not let go. :oh:
i wonder what it would be like if she had not let go.
I think that is where this was heading in any case...

 So did anyone ever actually build a hard case for their lipo ???
no i actually just started this thread recently and haven't had time to go to the depot to pic up some plastic. I do plan to this weekend though and will see how it works out.
Seems like it would make your lipos run too hot unless you make the case out of metal and install heatsinks.
