MMM alternative

Has any one used the scorpion 6 cell controllers? they look really nice and have a car mode. The wireless programing card is a plus also. Here's a link http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ducts_id/22495

traxxasbasher13 11.07.2008 10:40 PM

Look at this http://www.scorpionsystem.com/files/...BEC-Manual.pdf If you go to page 3 it shows car/boat mode.

lutach 11.07.2008 10:56 PM

The car software is not done yet and I seem to have the only unit with it:

http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11887

traxxasbasher13 11.07.2008 11:02 PM

That sucks, why does it say CAR/B if the programing is not there though?

traxxasbasher13 11.07.2008 11:06 PM

I just looked again it says the new V2 has car programing. It says: CAR/B= 1. WITH OUT REVERCE 2. WITH REVERSE, (BRAKE ON PRESET LEVEL )

lutach 11.07.2008 11:40 PM

It does have a car/boat programming, but it's not done yet. Plus Scorpion will use a different PCB and a heat sink/fan design.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 12:20 AM

Oh, ok could you pm me if you get any new info. Thanks!

Hi guys,

I have a prototype scorpion commander esc, 12s 130 amp controller. It's going in my muggy. I have everyting ready, just waiting for my motor. I have 2 4s polyquest lipo packs to power the car, some I'm going to run it on 8s. It's a big and heavy controller(and so is the muggy). If you're interested i'll let you know how things go.

let us know how it goes. also, where can the 12 controller be purchased?

What's_nitro? 11.08.2008 01:47 PM

That controller looks pretty sweet... I like the built-in mounting bracket. I'd be interested to see how it performs as well.

lutach 11.08.2008 01:58 PM

Man, I guess Scorpion found someone else to test their HV esc. All the work I did to help him get it right for us car guys might have not impressed him. All the advice with the heat sink and how the car software was supposed to be like. Oh well. I might just have to move on from now. Kind of reminds me of Hobbywing in a way.

Keep us posted on how the HV version does.

What's_nitro? 11.08.2008 02:03 PM

That sucks Lutach! I didn't know you were involved with them, too?! They really blew you off huh?

Like I told a few people, some of my ideas I just gave away for free just to have a good product on the market, but now I don't know if I'm going to do it anymore. It's cool, at least we will all know if this HV ESC from Scorpion will be good. I hope the price will be good as well so everyone can have a chance to try an HV set up.

The guy I emailed with was very nice and helpful. I just stumbled upon their website and after inquiring after their hv esc they offered me a prototype. I dealt directly with Scorpion in HK (I'm from the Netherlands btw).

I'm in direct contact with the owner. It's ok though, just keep us posted on how it works.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 04:52 PM

Wow did you get that for free? Isn't there suppose to be a fan to? it's like the castle SVH controller.

lutach 11.08.2008 04:57 PM

Georges mentioned he would make a thicker PCB to lower the resistance and add a fan which is going to be thermal controlled and is what I had said in my thread before Castle had the Monster out. I also mentioned other features suited for racers and I hope he implements them to the car software.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 05:11 PM

When should the new esc be ready?

suicideneil 11.08.2008 06:05 PM

Ask them, not us, lol...

I thought it would be out by now. On June he told me it would be 3 months to get it done. I haven't received an e-mails regarding it so I really don't know now.

traxxasbasher13 11.09.2008 12:18 AM

I tried to e-mail him but it wouldn't work for some reason.

drkdgglr 11.09.2008 04:23 AM

As I said I got a protoype, but I didn't get it for free. I received it about a week ago. They told me they'd been developing the esc for 22 months now. They seem to be keen on releasing a top product, as delivery was postponed a few times because they were improving the design.

traxxasbasher13 11.09.2008 11:49 AM

ok thats cool

BL_RV0 11.09.2008 03:19 PM

When will you be testing the HV ESC?

when my medusa arrives (ordered it two weeks ago)
and after I've made a mount for the esc.

slimthelineman 11.09.2008 05:24 PM

sounds interesting cant wait to hear how it goes, Mr. Diggler:lol:

traxxasbasher13 11.09.2008 05:53 PM

What does the mount look like?

drkdgglr 11.10.2008 07:19 AM

just mounted the esc. in the picture u can also see I'm trying a laydown servo layout in the muggy.

I like the heatsink design. Are you going to take it apart and snap pics for us?

BL_RV0 11.10.2008 10:24 AM

Very eager to hear tests about the ESC. I really like the compact design. Do you know what the price will be? Like $300-400?

tc3_racer_001 11.10.2008 10:16 PM

looks like THE BEST mounting esc ive ever seen. dunno why castle couldnt have thought of something with tabs. o well, velcro and zip ties :)

This is an e-mail I just got from Georges:

"For safety reason, we have removed the reverse function in the present line of 50V series esc, so it will not be suitable for use on cars,

We will be working on a new CPU for the future generation of scorpion ESC’s, but I think this is going to take at least a year to develop, so I’m sorry to tell you we will not have a car esc in the next 12 months to come."

Please do keep us posted on how your ESC does.

drkdgglr 11.11.2008 02:23 PM

I'll find out as soon as my motor arrives....

Even though it doesn't have reverse, why can't it be used on cars? It will still have brakes, right?

The problem I had with the 6S version is that the brakes were still the airplane type brakes. It wasn't proportional like what the car ESCs have.

BL_RV0 11.11.2008 04:26 PM

Poo.

Not really. They are working on it and when everything is working good, it'll be a nice HV ESC and they have the 15S that I hope will have the same software.

drkdgglr 11.11.2008 04:31 PM

got this form a german site of someone running a scorpion in an e-revo:

google translation of the bold part: The brake is fine and well-dosed, to block it.
