9xl 4s lipo 5000 ez run esc in e maxx good?

Would this be a good set up in a e maxx. gearing 23/66?

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 01:04 PM

Does anyone know how to JB weld the front and rear end bells on? Pictures would be greatly appercated. Thanks!

lutach 11.08.2008 01:14 PM

Are you talking about the eZRun 60A? I don't think it'll handle your set up. Have you seen this ESCs? I use it in my other Recoil which is 1/14 scale. People have used the 60A in 1/10 scale, but with 3S max and a 380-540 style motors that comes with the combo.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 01:24 PM

iv seen it in a e revo on the exact set up ran fine

Was it the eZRun or was it the Xerun 120A? Hobbywing makes 2 different ESCs.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 02:18 PM

60a esc

Where did you see this set up? I would love to see if the ESC is stil working.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 02:47 PM

its on youtube type in EZ run 60a esc

lutach 11.08.2008 03:03 PM

Very interesting. I guess GriffinRU was right about the capabilities of the ESC. He still has mine that I sent to him to get fixed and he might even do one of his cooling mods.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 03:05 PM

What cooling mods?

Tempted 11.08.2008 03:15 PM

60amp really isn't enough. You can pick up MM ESCs now for around $100 and run the 9XL without a problem on 4s.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 03:23 PM

Go to youtube and type in EZ run 60a esc. You will be surprised.

If you've seen some of the work GriffinRU has made you'll know he knows a bit about cooling some of this devices. He's the guy who did the Mamba Max and R1 mods for better cooling efficiency. He was actually surprised on how well built the 60A esc was and he said he could improve it some by doing one of his copper cooling mod.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 04:44 PM

Thats cool. So the esc is built really well. Thats good to know. Do you have to buy the programing card to use the controller or can you use the esc with out it?

All the ESCs Hobbywing sent me came with the program box, so they should come with one too. I haven't tried to program the ESC without it. You can also program the setting by just following the simple instructions. It's as easy as holding the program button and following the LEDs.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 05:10 PM

Alright cool because i just found out that i didn't order the programing box. so i hope i don't have to order one.

traxxasbasher13 11.08.2008 05:20 PM

ok i hope i can use it with out the box

lutach 11.08.2008 05:46 PM

You can.

traxxasbasher13 11.09.2008 12:17 AM

Ok cool and thanks again!

pasan 11.21.2008 05:20 AM

Sorry to wake up a week old thread, but I'm thinking of getting one of these ESCs too, and want to know if I can expect the performance of this ESC to be on par with a Sidewinder, or slightly better?

superlightmaxx 11.21.2008 11:28 AM

i'm thinking of putting up 2 ez-run in my twin brushless I want to do!
any feedback from others would be helpfull!

traxxasbasher13 11.21.2008 11:53 PM

This esc is MUCH better than a sidewinder. After a 20min run on 4s lipo it's only about 110 F.

pasan 11.22.2008 12:40 AM

Have you added an external BEC for running on 4S? and changed the fan too? What kind of motor are you using with it?

traxxasbasher13 11.22.2008 03:28 PM

The motor is a hobbycity 9xl and yes i am using a bec. I didn,t actully change the fan I just made a Y connector and ran it to the battery slot in the reciver.

traxxasbasher13 11.22.2008 03:41 PM

Yes I did use an external bec, but I didn't change the fan I just ran it to the battery port in the reciever. I am running a Hobbycity 9xl.

pasan 11.22.2008 03:41 PM

That's very interesting. How good are the hobbycity motors compared to feigaos? I get pretty good discounted prices with them and those motors are like 26 bucks, want to know if they're at least up to par with a feigao.

traxxasbasher13 11.22.2008 03:43 PM

Oops My bad my computer said i hadn't posted any thing yet:lol: so i tryed again

suicideneil 11.22.2008 03:44 PM

Im not a fan of the HC motors, but they are certainly cheap enough to experiment with...

traxxasbasher13 11.22.2008 03:44 PM

The motor runs great I have no experance with feigaos though.

traxxasbasher13 11.22.2008 03:46 PM

For $30 bucks they run pretty good though.

superlightmaxx 11.22.2008 07:31 PM

that`s good to know about the ez-run being better than the sidewinder!
I guess I'm going to go with my first idea and try two ez-run 60a esc and 2 hobby city 8s feigao clones! I'll experiment with that set-up and if something goes poof at least it will have cost me only 160$ total! but if it does work...\
160$ for a twin brushless set-up... :O)

traxxasbasher13 11.23.2008 12:13 PM

Go for it. I think you should run at least L motors though to keep temps down.

superlightmaxx 11.23.2008 03:18 PM

dont forget i`ll be running 2 of thoses S cans! i`m already running one L can and it`s already anough for the truck! it a gorillaé tryggy style maxx and pretty light... dont you think 2 L would be overkill? i'm not going for 60mph spped runs here... lol just want a reliable light 4s (2sx2) system for my truck but with the cool factor also... with 8s 4400kv they should be pretty cool running at a max of 35000rpm and splitting the load betwen them... dont you think guys...

traxxasbasher13 11.23.2008 04:36 PM

Two L size motors would not be over kill to me. If you get 2 8L's you would have a cooler running setup.

suicideneil 11.23.2008 06:30 PM

Interesting dilema.

Since the vxl motors are something like M can, and 2 of those can achieve 60mph on 2x 3s lipo @ 3500kv, then a pair of S cans on 2x2s each should do 40mph easily enough @ 4400kv. Like you said, a single L can is enough power for you, so a pair of S cans should be about equal in that respect- just added cool factor from the twin BL layout.

If you wanted to go for higher speeds, L cans would be better ofcourse...

BL_RV0 11.23.2008 10:29 PM

Personally I'd go with 2 s cans.

traxxasbasher13 11.24.2008 11:46 AM

I still say L cans.

The vxl motors have shorter windings and magnets than a s can feigao, so I would call them petite motors...

For his setup of 2s lipo the higher kv would be better. And gearing options are limited to 22t max on the pinion before you have to buy more expensive pinions. I would personally use 2 sidewinders and the cc 5700 motors. Especially the new design of the motors. Or a pair of 50mm medusa v2 motors.

Not going to get enough motor speed out of L cans, and the gearing will be difficult to achieve with only 2s on each motor.

traxxasbasher13 11.24.2008 02:06 PM

VXL motors are considered smaller than s size motors?:surprised:

superlightmaxx 11.24.2008 04:07 PM

thanks lincpimp! that's what I tought also about the L cans! not high enough kv to use only 2s. That's why I choose 8s because I want to run 2s and have a good set-up... so 35000rpm seems the ideal choice
I tought I would gear it for about 40mph and see from there...
I tought of a 24/72 pinion/spur combo gives me 14.7 ratio
with 5.5" truggy tires should be ok
What do you guys think?
Is that gearing to high?
