Got a Great Deal on MMM combo!

I just thought I would share my excitement after a dull and bad week last week.

I just pre-ordered the MMM 2200kv combo for $240 shipped! I can wait til they are finally shipped!:mdr:

Time to cancel the order of the 70mm Medusa.

Lemme guess...super saver member?

Carraig042 11.10.2008 02:10 PM

How would ever guess that, lol. Good thing I joined a few days ago.

Carraig042 11.10.2008 03:39 PM

BTW. What gearing do you think I should use to start with in my E-Revo using 4s?

I was thinking 20tooth pinion and 62, 65, and 68 spur gears. Do you think that will be a good place to start with. I used the speed calculator, but I am new to the electric scene.

Carraig042 11.10.2008 03:52 PM

Wow, that will be fast! 52mph! Will the setup I listed be good on the motor, esc, and batteries? Would your be better?

what batteries are you using?
do you need ideas?

mikey09120 11.10.2008 04:01 PM

it should only be like 45mph. what tires are you using?

Carraig042 11.10.2008 04:05 PM

The vantage tires, bout same size as the taloon. I calculated in some balooning. (.5)

I got your calculations now.

oh. that explains it. what batts are you using?

Carraig042 11.10.2008 04:08 PM

Don't have any yet. I will be running 4s lipo.
I just want a good setup that will not get the electronics to hot.

Hi, I'm also waiting for the Monster Combo to be released, and would like to know which is the lower Spur gear you can use with this motor (suppose similar in diameter to Neu 1515 1Y), because I also have a 20 tooth pinion from my 700HO, and I want 40mph (track race).
So I can use my 20 T pinion with a 54 T Spur ? Or the motor would collide with transmission?

Differential Ratio: 2.8461538461538463
Transmission Ratio: 1.8333333333333333
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 54
Pinion Tooth Count: 20

Total Voltage: 14.8

Tire Ballooning (inches): 0.1
Motor Current Draw: 0

Estimated Adjusted Speed: 39 mph (63 km/h) - 5% loss
Effective KV Value: 2200
KT constant: 0.61 oz-in/A

Or I should buy a 22T pinion with 56 Spur?

Thanks man. These forums have been helping me a lot and in ways that the Traxxas forum can not. (veteran member over there)

Do you think that the SPC 2s2p 8000mah 12c batteries will be good for the MMM combo? What I am really trying to say is will the 88 amps be enough? Or do you think that they are underrated like many say?

I'm with Mikey onthis one. Those batteries won't be good enough for the amp draw. I'm biased to Flightpower and Neuenergy batteries since these are the only 2 brands of lipo I had used. You'll want at least 100 amps. I'm personally using 25C/50C Neu and FP 5000mah packs.

LOL! I had a problem with that. I was going to just buy a sticker sheet or something, but I went ahead and got the variable dampening pistons instead.

Ok, I will look at some lipos with a higher c rating such as the ones you linked.

skellyo 11.11.2008 09:56 AM

FYI, when you apply the code on the site, the coupon code actually states: "SAVE $60 on $299.90 ORDER"

So, you really didn't need to add anything to your order.

Smashwings 11.11.2008 11:53 AM

When I try to make an order it says:

# Ad number promotion (--------) will be applied when shippable item(s) reach the required dollar amount of $-----.
# Shipping charge will be added to your order when the first back-ordered item is shipped
In-Stock Items: $.00
Priority Mail International: $.00
Subtotal (based on in-stock items only): $.00
Total Current Charges: $.00

Did you made your order like this? I'm not sure I'm able to order as is, or if the coupon will be applied if not in stock

skellyo 11.11.2008 02:42 PM

If you have the coupon code in your cart when you place the order the coupon will be applied once the item comes in stock and is shipped to you.

Carraig042 11.11.2008 03:50 PM

He is right. Once the out of stock items come into stock, the coupon will come into effect. I went through the same thing and I called and their support clarified it for me.

the issue is that I have a 75$ coupon for 300$ purchase and when I add an additional item to the Monster Combo (299.99) , and checkout, they make me pay only for the additional item and the shippment (I suppose they will send them?). So:

- When the backorder combo will be released I will have to pay shippment another time? and
- the coupon of 75$ will be applied?(because the item that make the total over 300$ is already shipped)

i'll have to write them

You will not have to pay shipping again. If you are a member, they will actually give that shipping back to you.
Yes, the coupon will applied when the combo is shipped out.

Now for my question: since you guys dont think that the SPC's 8000 2s2p (96amps) will be enough, I guess THESE will be good then. That would be like having 7400mah and 148 amps when put into parallel, correct?

One more thing. How is hobby city's customer support? Are they great to deal with?

-Brett

skellyo 11.11.2008 08:21 PM

IMO, a pair of Neu 25C 2S 4900's in series would be nicer. You can find them here: http://www.neumotors.com/2008/store/page6/page6.html

Carraig042 11.11.2008 08:55 PM

That looks good and all, I was just thinking about getting a longer runtime. How long do you think I could bash with those?

Those are enerland cells aren't they?

THIS would be even better if they cam back into stock.

-Brett

hemiblas 11.11.2008 09:09 PM

I am running the spc cells in my mmm 7xl combo geared for 42mph. They dont run hot at all and they handle the peak currents just fine. What type of speeds are you looking for? The MMM neu motor should be even more efficient then my setup. I use a wattmeter to make sure batts are handling load and up to this point I have about 10 runs of this setup.

skellyo 11.11.2008 09:10 PM

15-20 minutes probably. IMO, I'd prefer better cells than having added weight and only a few more minutes of bash time for a pair of packs.

I am looking for speeds comparable to my Nitro, so about 40mph give or take. I also believe that the runtime (with the ones I linked) would be at minimum 10 min longer than a 5000mah pack. Right?

-Brett

hemiblas 11.11.2008 11:05 PM

40mph will be easy for those batts. Run time is kind of difficult to guage but 8000mah will last almost twice as long as 5000mah packs. I am no big fan of 4000mah lipos, but when you parallel them in the configuration they have, they hold their voltage pretty well.
FYI, I took my 7xl out to a parking lot and was about to race a .28 tmaxx with 30 percent a couple weeks ago and everyone agreed my setup was far more impressive on the torque and acceleration. This was with the spc packs peak charged to 7.45. Nitros take a bit to get up and going, but these electric setups just have crazy low end torque.
The Neu batts these guys are recommending though are going to have greater punch than the SPC's, and they make great recommendations, but if I get any more torque in my setup somethings is going to give. Right now it holds nicely together with all of that power.

Carraig042 11.11.2008 11:33 PM

So you have the 8000 SPC lipos then? Are the battery temps good?
I think that it is a close one between the SPC's and NEU packs. I can't decide which way to go.

-Brett

George16 11.12.2008 06:08 AM

Just buy the Neu or FP and be done with it.
