twin sidewinder in e-maxx
I want to install a twin sidewinder in a light e-maxx! anybody knows what fiegao s motor those sidewinder would handle? I would like to install twin 8S but not sure if these esc will handle it! i'll be running 2s lipo on each esc.
any help would help! |
I'd go with dual medusa 50mm motors if you have the cash.
|
The little sidewinder escs are pretty good. Why not use the 5700kv motors that CC sells? If not go with a 8-9s feigao.
For what you plan to spend the MMM and neu motor combo that CC sells would be about the same price, and offer 1/2 of the complexity.... Just a thought. |
do you think the sidewinder would handle the amp draw of the 8S I dont know the amp ratings of both the esc and castle motors! I know the single combo is easier and I have that now on mine but my bk warrior burnt and I want to try a twin on my gorillamaxx project! I think it would run pretty good considering it's pretty light!
|
I have a 9920 for sale if you are interested...
The 8s wil most likely be fine with the sidewinder. |
how much for the 9920?
|
Sent you a PM with the price...
|
A single properly sized motor and ESC will perform just as well (probably better) without the complexity and increased points of failure than a dual BL system (of any type).
Also, the current draw on an ESC is not totally dependant on the motor wind, but the gearing, weight, terrain, ESC settings, etc. |
I know it's easier and can be more powerfull to just do a single setup! been there and done that! I just want the bling and challenge of something different on my gorillamaxx. :O) thanks for your advice tought!
my gorillamaxx twin motor mount just plain looks to nice to be left with a single! :O)) |
plus it would really lower my center of gravity
|
I know a member used a pair of CC36 5600kv? motors and MM escs on 2s lipo each once in his maxx, though he siad that was too much. I think the lower kv 4700kv? motors would be better, or even the cursed V-twin setup that uses 3500kv S can motors on 3s lipo each; top speed 60mph. Im not sure if the sidewinders woud really be big enough to handle the current, might be safer with something abit larger...
|
I think medusa 50mm 3300kv on 3s each would be kickass.
|
I`m pretty much tempted to try something different! what do you guys think if this set-up: two EZ-RUN 60A ESC & two KD 8S 9 (like fiegao but half the price) running 2s lipo each.... geared for 40mph
any comments :O) |
No, no, yes.
Sidewinders are better than EZruns, IMO. Don't buy 2 spinning toasters of death. 2s or 3s sounds good. Check out the finned bidproduct motors. |
Here:
http://www.bidproduct.com/part/Produ...20MOTOR_1.html Scarily enough though, someone on the idiot forum is running a 9XL on 4s lipo with the 60amp EZ run esc- in an Erevo... :/ |
wat`s the difference between the kd and feigao? other than the price?
they seem axactly the same... and I read a lot of good about the ez-run esc's :O) |
Given the 1 dollar difference between the 50mm and 60mm bidproduct motors, I would go with the 60mm and a lower kv. The 4090kv motor looks good, and I doubt that it will pull the 100 amp max they spec when running a pair of them in an emaxx. Should be a decent match with a sidewinder.

lincpimp, since you seem to be a master at brushless motors around here! (I read a lot of you posts...)
I have a question for you: do you think I would be better off with 2 7s feigao instead of 2 8s? I really dont plan to go to 3s lipo! I have all 2s lipo so i'm trying to find the best feigao motor that would run good on 2s without any heating issues! I could even gear it in first so geraing isn't an issue! and my e-maxx is going to be under 9 pounds with lipos and everything on board... I dont want to attain warp speed but I like to pass 40mph |
I have an original E-Maxx 2.5 that now houses two Sidewinders/5700 and it IS loads of fun. The motor/esc combos were up for cheap on Ebay (little over a hundred bucks) so I picked them up when my MMM died awhile back to have something to goof around with. Everything else was stock, just swapped in the brushless powerplant. On 3s it was insane, wheelie-on-demand and top speeds that dare you to attempt to turn more than 1/4 in either direction without flipping it. I also twisted one of the rear plastic telescoping driveshafts until it snapped doing wheelies.. AND the motors do get way too hot on 3s. I've since ordered RD Logics CVD's that came but received the wide-max versions by mistake and forgot about it once my MMM came back. I'll order wide-maxx arms and tie rods today. I am trying to post pics but my work pc doesn't have any sort of photo editing to resize them. Anyone have a quick solution to re-size pics?

Upload to photobucket.com and select 640x480, or 800x600 maximum size, then post the img tag links to the forum.

The 7s should be fine. You truck will be light and if your gearing is not high they should not get too hot. On 2s those motors will spin max of 37k rpm, which should be fine. I once ran an emaxx with one 7s motor on 3s lipo. It was geared 22/54 and would thermal the MM in 2nd gear! It was geared for 80mph in 2nd and it did pull over 100 amps as it puffed the lipo I was using (crapamps best). Those motors can pull some amps, but since you will run 2s and a pair of motors it will spread the load. The sidewinder is good for about 80 amps so you should be fine. |
for lipo I have team orion packs 3200 and 4800 hard case
|
You should be fine as long as you use the 4800 packs. They're 20c right? I think 2 8s kd36s geared for 40 should do just fine.
|
yeah there 20c! thanks for your info!
I think I have nothing trying those kd motors at 30$ a pop!! |
Sounds good. Look forward to your results!
