Jerry2kone's Collection
Ok so I finally took the plunge and got a photbuket account and now I am ready to post up some photos of my stuff. I know there are a lot of guys out there with some pretty incredible R/C gear to show off and I am not here to compete with anyone. I got started in this hobby like 3 years ago when my dear wife gave me a stock E-Maxx for my birthday knowing that I have wanted to do R/C most of my life, but just could not afford to put the time or the money into it. Well that started the addiction and three years later I am into this hobby in a big way (15 to $20K) for trucks, tools, batteries, chargers, controller, and parts, and only Maxx's up to now. I have asperations to do other vehicles, but until I am satisfied with my Maxx collection this is it for now. I have 4 metal Maxx trucks all about 75% completed. I now have the materials to complete them all, and just have to find the time to get busy. I just finished building my shop here in Korea and my two boys and I are very excited about working together building, learning, and having fun doing what we all love to do. Race, Bash, build, repair, and learn some more.
These pics are only a week or so old, and already the trucks have been changed due to more upgrades. The FLM & UE trucks both weigh right about 7 to 8 lbs without batteries on board according to our digital scale. I am building the FLM truck to be the toughest thing around, and I plan on trying out some awesome power for it. The UE Lightning will be my high speed project with a double monoblock and custom drive shafts. I am also thinking about getting one of the Plettenberg Bolidos for it. That waill be some real fun. Everything in these babies is built to last and no plastic toys for me. So here they are. http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/q...E/bec22fe9.jpg http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/q...E/94d93765.jpg http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/q...E/623ffa36.jpg http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/q...E/35290b9c.jpg |
I've been waiting Jerry! Thank you for sharing! Get that schulze running!
|
I Know I Know.
Yea I know I still have a lot of work to do. I look forward to running the Schulz with the Big max that you guys sold to me. I have all kinds of things to try out with these. Sorry for the long wait on the pics.

Just glad to hear you and the boys are doing well. Those boys need some pleasant distractions from life, and I think you found it with r/c!
|
Nice collection Jerry.
You need to get a set of racerx or EXT suspension for that lightning though :intello::intello::na:. I have a set if you're interested. I just sold my 2nd set of towered VBS with gears last week :neutral:. |
Thinking.
Thanks George, I will have to think about that offer. I do have the UE wide-track suspension set on there now. I love the way the racer/X sets look, but it just adds adjustment complications that aren't really needed IMO. Shoot me a PM price for what you want for them anyway and I will think it over. So do you still have another towered VBS set for sale?? I may be interested if you do. Although I think that the RCM/FLM hybrid bulks pretty much do the trick. I put the lightning hardened gears inside and I use the hardened heavy duty cups/outdrives as well. I also have a center diff setup that I am playing with that I am considering using the torsen diff on, and I have a couple steel spurs coming in for that.
I really do like the UE gear, but it is too bad that Robin does not see fit to keep replacement parts available for us. It is a dammed shame that UE has turned it's back on the R/C community. I also just installed a double monoblock this evening, because I want to set the Lightning up for some high speed fun. I have a few ideas but I am not really sure just yet what kind of power plant I will end up putting into it. I am still trying to engineer this thing for durability right now. I don't want to end up running it a few times and have things breaking on me every time out. I do love working on these things. It is a blast for me just to tinker with them and work on improving them. Thanks George. Quote:

Very nice collection. I have to ask though- why are all the rear tires mounted backwards on your trucks?
|
working.
I noticed that you try to catch everyone with that one. I take them on and off so much that most of the time I am not looking at that right now. Once I am ready to start running them I will pay more attention to that fact. It just is not important at the moment. I have the new Axial beadlock wheels setup for them anyway. I just got a home made wheel balancer setup and I already have one set totally done with Mulcher tires installed. Next week I will have a second set done with 40 series Roadrage-2 tires on them.
|
Looks good Jerry. I am a bit jealous, as your maxx collection is nicer than mine...
I have no idea why I like maxx trucks as much as I do, but who cares! I currently have 2 BPP torpedo chassis, 1 BPP racebomb, a mostly stock 3905, the 6x6 3906 based truck, and a tube buggy that needs work. None have all that al that you have though. I prefer plastic parts (mostly because I am cheap! HAHA) and have a bunch of stuff laying around from trades and hobby shop closings. Long live the maxx truck!!!! |
wow! Those trucks look great Jerry.
|
Yup, that's quite an impressive collection to say the least.
Now take them off the hanger's, I promise you wont wrinkle them, and get some proper pic's. I'm sure the "drool factor" would at least double !!!! They sure are sex-zeeee...........:surprised: |
don't know if you wanna know this, but you said you were building them to make them durable, so...... That blue chassis is a weak link. If you've got all the parts for it, it's made for four batteries, but even with two mine got bent to all hell. It's a pretty setup, but there simply isn't enough material to hold the weight of the batteries hanging on the side. I learned that the hard way so you don't have to! I used mine with dual evx's and dual 970's, it looked good till it bent. I was going to copy the top plate and "double it up" but never got around to it. Just an fyi. -Harold p.s.- a link to a durable blue chassis! http://www.eastendmachining.com/emaxxchassis.html
|
Nice trucks Jerry. Looks like you've spare'd no expense there. Why have you retained the two speed tranny's on all of them? With brushless, you dont need the 1st gear, and you loose the weight of the addtitional tranny stuff and servo.
|
Sweet Maxx collection Jerry!
|
Thanks Alot.
Thank you all for your thoughts. Hey linc. Yea I like the Maxx for some odd reason as well. To me it is a simple setup and durable if you set it up right.
Yea Harold, yea I know that one is kind of whimpy. That is why it belongs to one of the boys now. The two beefy ones are what I was talking about. The RCM and UE chassis ones are my baby's. Thank you for that link though, because I will probably guy one of those and replace the Dynamite chassis. Thank you Magman Hey there Thiessen. Thank you and yes I know the two speed is not really needed, but I just love the machine work with the tranny case and the metal gears. I cannot help myself when I see the CNC machining that goes into these trucks. Thank you RCShocker. I do work on them every chance I get, and once I make some progress I will take better pics of them and repost them up for comments. I still have so much work to get done. It has taken a lot of time to move from Europe to Korea, and then to get the house settled, and finally to build this shop for the boys and I. Hey RSChoi are you still coming over this way? Thank you for your thorughts as well. |
Nice collection Jerry!! I like the way you have them stored. Very ingenious.
|
Hey Jerry,
FINALLY, that Lightning sure is sexy, love the silver/blue thing you've got going on. Also like those deep dish wheels. Great to finally see these monsters :intello: jordan |
Thanks.
Thank you Jordan. Yea those are the aluminum wheels I picked up a while back thinking that I was going to use them, but now I have the Axial beadlocks to torture. The deepdish aluminum wheels will be strictly for show now. I really like the lightning as well. I just put the double monoblock on last night and I hope to turn it into the highspeed project. Glad you like.

Double mono? wow, so im guessing your just going to fab up some plates to join them together. Can't wait to see how that turns out, is that hi-speed machine going to be with the Bigmaxx?
|
No Plates.
No plates needed. I had to a little bit of grinding to get two of them to fit together, but then it bolts right up to the truck. I am actually thinking about getting one of their "Bollito" motors for that. I have to do some more research before making a final decision. I will probably pick up one of Lutach's high voltage controllers for it as well. Yea this one is going to be fun.

Dual BigMaxximum's might scoot down the road?
Nice collection buy the way!:mdr: |
Thanks again guys. I do have one big Maximum on hand, but if I am going to spend some serious bling to get this thing moving on down the road, then I want to get the best motor I can find for the money that would fit on the SuperMaxx. From what I remember the Bolido is a monster of a motor and kicks some serious behind. I have a center diff to put in her, and I know I will have to do some creative mounting for the motor but I will do it. The only thing about me is that I am in no real hurry. I have to pace myself $$$$ wise and collect exactly what I need for it. Plus I am working on 4 projects at one time. AND now I will have to help the boys build their trucks also. Life is good.
|
:gasp: WOW…. :surprised:
Finally Sir!!..  But DAM looking good!! :intello: Personally I like the first and last one’s the best!.. they are all way cool, but everyone has a favorite  I'm so sorry I missed this, I’ve been kind of busy with my own projects (home and kids / fun stuff) so I’ve been off the boards for a while.. But DAmmm thanks for finally sharing Jerry.. :intello: Just and outstanding collection and I had a huge smile across my face the whole time I was viewing.. I also like the way they are hung them, :oh: that a great idea and a real space saver. GOT any VIDEO ???? Have a great Weekend sir.. Shaun. |
Thanks.
Thank you Shaun (SIR) for looking at my toys, and for the nice comments. No videos yet. I just learned how to post up the photos this week. I have cameras that can take video, but the wife has the easiest one to operate with her right now in San Francisco. Yea I saw the hanging R/C vehicles in an earlier post on this thread and stole the idea for my own shop. I to love the space saving, and the way it looks. When people come over to check out the shop it really catches their attention.
I received a whole bunch of stuff this week, but I am still waiting on a few more items in order to complete two of the trucks and get them ready for testing. I have some HPI hardened diff gears comming, and some custom drive shafts coming from RC Alloys. I also have a center diff setup (bought on here) to play with and I just got a few different metal spur gears in for that(44T, 46T, 50T, 60T, and 65T). That gives me a lot of range to play with during testing. I already have a ton of different pinion gears on hand. I have all kinds of neat stuff to play with, but I still have not learned how to charge batteries with my 989 Superbrain, nor have I begun to learn how the DX3-R works. I have two Spektrum receivers to use with it, so once I figure out how to get them going I will get some videos up for posting. I also have several ESC's to use, but have not a clue on how to set them up. So I have a lot of research and studying to do before I can run any of them. I received another set of Axial beadlocks this week and mounted a set of 40 series Roadrage II tires on them. I made sure to tape and balance the wheels so no problems there. I am just not as fast at doing these projects as you are Shaun. I have three kids to deal with, and my evenings belong to the wife. Plus there are just some days when I do not feel like messing with R/C's at all. It has been a long hard road(3 years) making R/C toy purchases for this, but bashing time is growing near. I have learned about as much engineering wise about these trucks as I can, and now I have to get through all of the electronics before I am ready to play in the dirt. One of them is going to be my high speed pavement project, but I have no idea how fast I may get it up to. I doubt anything like the fastest R/C contest, but who knows?? |
Hey Jerry,
Don't worry too much about figuring out the DX3R, i was a bit hesitent going into it with all the menu's and settings etc. But they're all layed out really cleanly, its easy to use the scrolling, knob thing, and it has really sensitive adjustability, so you'll be able to get whatever setting you want out of it with relative ease. Good luck with the final steps of your projects!! (these usually turn out to be the hardest, but the most rewarding at the same time :diablo: ) |
Jerry, I keep wanting to tell you the bolido is waaay too big for a maxx sized truck, yet I really want to see it done. You could get equal power for less money, but the bolido shares the same cool machining the big maxx does, but bigger! I'll be watching..........
|
Thanks.
Hey there Harold nice seeing you up and about on here, and thanks for your advice. I know it is a BIG motor, but this will be no normal Maxx either for sure. Plus I have enjoyed doing a lot of research on all of this, and one thing that just jumps out at me is how cool it is when you have the biggest, baddest, meanest machine on the planet. There are plenty of Maxx R/C trucks out there, and we have seen just about everything imaginable done to these things. The only thing that will catch our eye anymore is something that is a little bit different and even a bit odd or overboard. Look at Shauns battle truck for instance. It is crazy, but what a cool project. I may need some kind of custom made motor mount for it, but even that is doable.
I have an extended UE Lightning chassis with TWO monoblocks installed, and widetrack suspension. I just setup the Axial beadlocks balanced with street tires, Plus every drivetrain part will be made of some kind of steel alloy or titanium for strength. I may run into some troubles along the way and you may be right about the Bolido just being too much for the Maxx tuck, but if I can get this thing to hook up the right way I should be able to get some serious speeds out of it and maybe even surprize myself with it. So it is do or die for my high speed SuperMaxx project. If it dies I will turn it into something a little bit more subtle or spread the parts out into some of my other trucks. No loss no gain. Actually I wish that I was close enough to be able to share this project up close and personal with some of you guys on here, so I can lean on the expertice that is here on RCM. Trying to get these projects perfect would be a lot easier if all of the info was not just on line, if you know what I mean. I have not been a part of any kind of group hobby thing since I was in my teens, and that was a few years ago:rofl::rofl::lol:. I do appreciate your concerns Harold, and I do know the cost of failure:eyes:. At the very worst if it is too much motor for me I can sell it second hand through this site. I am sure that someone will take it off of my hands for a reduced price. So whats the harm in trying??? . Quote:
|
You've got a great attitude Jerry. I'm in the states, but still really don't have anyone to share this hobby with, atleast not at the RCM level. The only hobby shop in my area didn't know what a feigao was until I showed them one. I'm glad this forum exists, so us like minded individuals can share our interests. I'm hoping to get one of plettenbergs one-off chassis' and building a speed maxx myself. I can't wait to see what comes of all this. -Harold
|
Thanks Harold.
Thank you Harold for sharing your thoughts in all of this. Every time I see your posts on here I cannot help but think of the position that you are in, and I am truly grateful for where I am in life, and the blessings that I have. I admire your fortitude and your spirit towards life. You are always helpful and positive to anyone and everyone (except lincpimp of course) and we are all fortunate to have such friendship considering your setbacks in life. So thank you for your support young man. And what is this about a Plettenberg Maxx chassis??? Does Plettenberg make a chassis for the Maxx truck line? or have I misunderstood your meaning??
|
Just a slight misunderstanding. An RCM forum member goes by the handle "plettenbergs". He has a maxxler chassis, as far as I know there are only two in the world. He took said chassis to a machinist to have made, and I'm on the short list to receive one! Info about the chassis can be found here:http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15663

Nice rigs Jerry!
|
Thanks.
Thank you DickyT. It is nice to finally be able to share what I have built up with everyone. Acquiring them and building them up has been quite an experience for me, but letting everyone else see them is pretty cool. I know we are all on some kind of quest, but I feel like I am trying to make up for many years of wanting this hobby as a part of my life. I have a lot of lost time to make up for, and now having the boys here with me makes it even more special for me.

Thanks
Thanks Harold for clearing that one up. I just sent Matt a PM as well now that you showed that to me. I remember you pointing that chassis out to me once before, but I did not know that he was having some made. That is a very cool chassis, and it will make a nice addy to our collections.
Quote:
|
You are on the list...do you want VBS or standard bulk-head version?
|
Thanks.
Thanks Matt:yes:. The standard Maxx bulk kit will work fine for me. I like using the RCM hybrid bulks with the HPI lightning hardened diff gear setup. Any word on when you can expect the finished product? I know it is out of your hands so to speak, but will it be in the New Year, sooner, or even later? My birthday is 07/Feb.....:intello: I can get the money at any time, but if I have an advance ball park time estimate I can keep from making other purchases so as to keep the money handy:whistle:. Buying R/C gear is a none stop thing for me.
Is this your own custom design, or did you pick this up from someone else that made it? I may have missed it, but I have not seen anything explaining exactly where this chassis came from to start with. I remember seeing it a little while back and I was instantly impressed with the layout of your truck. I am not a big fan of carbon fiber R/C parts. All though it does look pretty cool, I prefer metal parts in my trucks for strength and durability. If it has to have some carbon fiber in it, then I will just have to make aluminum copies of those parts. If there is any way to get all aluminum that would be great to. Thanks for the assistance Matt with getting this one of a kind setup reproduced, and into our hands. This is a cool thing you are doing. A lot of guys will be greatful:yipi:, and even more will be jealous once that door is closed.:na: Quote:
|
Your Maxx trucks look amazing Jerry. Glad to hear you're all settled in Korea and ready to have some fun with your boys and toys. Keep us posted on anything you change on the trucks.
|
Thanks Jnev
Yeah I have a few things in the works right now, but like anything getting the parts actually in hand is the trick:eyes:. These things can take a while to come together sue to shipping, vendors, and $$$. I hope to have two of them in testing shortly after New Year if all goes as planned:wink:. The UE Lightning Maxx will be my 6/8-s high speed project and the Fastlane/RCM truck will be my unstopable track/bash/crusher vehicle. The fun never stops at the Hill house.

Update
I didn't feel like starting a new thread for this, so I am posting up a few updated photos of two of my trucks. The first is going to be a few shots of my UE Lightning with the double monoblock installed. I have a Hardcore tranny mounted just to dry fit the very long driveshaft and to make sure that it fits. SInce this rig is going to be setup to run high speeds I am hoping to put one of Mike's new Maxx center diff mounts and an HPI lightning hardened diff set on this one. I also have Axial beadlocks with taped Roadrage tires fully balanced on this one. Anyway here are the most recent pics.

2nd one
The second one is an RCM rig with the V-twin Dewalt 970 power plant for bashing. I have it all torn down for final assembly and locktite work. I have hardened steel pins comming for the hinge pins this week, and I hope to have it ready for testing next week.
