Choosing motor... alternatives?

So I have made Hyper ST Pro brushless, had one chinese motor for test, but it just died... Test not passed:lol:
So I was planning to get Medusa Afterburner V2 80mm 2200kv motor, to power my truggy. But now I would like to know, that is there any alternatives for that, for same price and power?
Truggy is pretty heavy, so just any motor wont last, its more like 4,5kg/10lbs.
I have gears 11-14t /52t.
And as it wont go any easier, motor diameter should stay +/-2 mm 36mm, so that it fits without removing front brace.
And ESC is MMM v3 and batterys 4S lipos.

I think it's going to be hard to beat the medusa for the value to money spent ratio. 4,5kg really isn't that heavy. You could use the 80mm, but I'm sure the 70mm would be fine.

+1 and it will be difficult to find a better motor that is not too large in diameter for you requirements...

BL_RV0 11.24.2008 08:20 PM

I would go with the 80mm medusa.

big greg 11.24.2008 08:45 PM

i would try to find a good deal on a 1515 1y, you will smile more when you punch it with the neu!

big greg 11.24.2008 08:46 PM

also you will strip the threads out of the medusa in a short time, and you will be left buying a neu eventually, might as well skip the step, i did the same thing

rcjmaxx 11.25.2008 12:59 PM

Do the Medusas have a problem with striping?

Arct1k 11.25.2008 02:05 PM

castle 1515 1y would be an alternatice at the same price point - I've seen no issue with stripping threads.

suicideneil 11.25.2008 03:23 PM

If you ask me there arent enough threads about stripping.

Oops wrong forum...

Aren't all the CC Neu's finned? That would be too large in diameter I think...

bruce750i 11.25.2008 07:20 PM

No problems with my Medusa stripping threads out. You just gotta know when to say when, and put the allen down.

They are 36mm motors though, not 40mm like the neus. Finned version would be around 40-42mm.

If the CC motors are a smaller diameter, do they have the same size rotor as the Neus? Something doesn't make sense there.....

BL_RV0 11.25.2008 08:23 PM

I don't think they do, being that the CC motor is thinner, but longer...
That rreally didn't sound right. I think neil and I are both confused of which forum we're on.

brushlessboy16 11.25.2008 08:24 PM

The motors are 42mm, and they do have the same rotor size, the fins are smaller.

BL_RV0 11.25.2008 08:53 PM

Oh ok.

E-Revonut 11.25.2008 09:10 PM

What are you using the truggy for? Bashing, speed runs or racing? If it's racing The 60mm Medusa would even do. Mike was running a 60mm Medusa in his E-REVO last I heard and thats not a light truck either. For bashing or a mix of everything the 70mm would prolly be a better bet, but for all out speed runs while maintaining good temps go with the 80mm. As Arct1k said the CC/neus will be close to the same price but currently the best bang for your buck goes to Medusa. I've had no stripped threads on my Medusa, choose the proper length screw, apply a drop of loktite, and tighten down. No need to put a 4' pipe on the end of the allen wrench:lol:

Ill think I go for 80mm just in case. Just to make sure there is "enought" power.
Use would be bashing on yard and some bashing on race track.

Mozzy 11.26.2008 11:16 AM

When are these 70 & 80mm Medusa's going to be finally released???

They told me end of November..............ahhhhhh, heeellooooooo, we're there, so, where are my motor's!!??

BL_RV0 11.26.2008 01:15 PM

Off-topic: How much does your hyper st weigh without batteries?

Jabe 11.26.2008 02:38 PM

3,9kg with tires, with batteries 5kg.
And thats without motor. Tires weight 870g.

BL_RV0 11.26.2008 02:55 PM

 Mine is 3.99kg without batteries, but with motor.

i tightened mine down, then i needed to change the pinion, unloosened it, when to tighten it back up, never even got snug, the taps they used are junk, i know of 6 medusas being used at the moment locally, including the one i had, and 5 stripped the threads out, that or they move because of undertightening, maybe we just all got unluckey!

You dont have mechanical brakes, thats why...
And those other tires are 50g lighter, for set.
My car should be balanced fairly, as those servos and MMM weights ~350g, and that Medusa is 400g + cooling fin and front adapter.

That's pretty good, my CRT weighs bang on 5kg with everything, including mechanical brakes.

I borrowed the MM from my mate to use this w/e.
My 6 still haven't turned up. :-(
