Need a small favour from slash/slayer/corr truck owners who also have a maxx...
Well, I've got this crazy idea to put a corr type shell (Proline desert rat) on my Gmaxx- please throw all logic out the window at this point. I know the wheel base is about a good inch or two out, but the corr design has a big ass on it, so I can trim the rear wheel arches to fit quite well.
I would just like some idea of how the shell will look roughly mounted on a maxx or revo platform with standard suspension; if you have 40 series tires or bigjoes even, and low profile towers, thats even better. Im just wondering how wide the shell is from side to side over the wheel arches front and rear, and how long the wheel base is exactly, plus the total length- any kinda slash or slayer shell will do, or the proline ones if you have them. I know Im nuts- but I prefer the term 'eccentric' (Im English, dont you know...). :mdr: |
This probably doesnt help because I believe it is the "opposite" of what you really are requesting. The picture shows the Slash that I use to own with a 3.3 Revo body on it. Maybe it will give you an idea about the wheelbase somehow. Oh well ......

it does help somewhat- the 3.3 is about the same length as the newer maxx I believe, and the slash is a corr truck, so it seems the shells are a pretty good match for wheel arch location give or take. Width is my main issue though- how will the wheel arches of the corr shells (that are rather big thankfully) compare to the ~6" diameter maxx type tires- I look forward to more posts...

i have both trucks, let me get out the shotty camera i have and take a few shots.

You know I have a funny idea 2 days ago about this when I accidentally put the slash body on top of my EMAXX...I think it fits perfect with a few trim here and there....of course you need to design a new body post...
For you neil...hope you can use it to visualize  http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/9651/dsc4235cr5.jpg |
I was toying with this in the hobby shop a couple weeks ago. I think the fit would be pretty good - with some trimming in front and behind the wheels.
'Course, the guys at the hobby shop wouldnt give me any scissors. Take my own next time...... |
Lol ^^.
Thankyou guys, my brain is buzzing with ideas right now- kinda makes the truck look more 1/5 scale with the larger/ wider body in a way, which is kinda what Im after in terms of appearance. With my hoofing great big tyres, the truck is very wide, and quite long anyway, so a larger body 'fits' the look better, if you get my drift. Interesting thought I had though, thinking back to my TXT-1 days: http://www.robotwars.00server.com/specs.html (TXT-1 dimensions) http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...dimensions.jpg Gmaxx dimensions. I think I figured out why my truck looks so wide compared to its length- the TXT-1 was bloody huge, 2 inches longer in fact. I think I need to extend my chassis somehow to get the proportions better, and still use the corr type shell at the same time... Winter project me thinks  |
That looks good actually.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtZjYg193eI This is stum's e revo with buggy tires but you can get a good idea. I think your truck will look stout with a bigger body. Not that it is'nt now. You have a good idea there.

My buddy just put a Slash-style body on his Revo.

That looks okay..

that looks freakin sick!! i would definetly do that if i had a maxx

Hey Neil,
I installed the stock Slash body on my XT8 it was pretty simple, I just used the stock traxxas body rails and modified them to fit my front and rear towers, then the body just fit on top.. Not sure if that helps but it's my two cents!.. with pictures.. P.S. Sounds cool, looking forward to see it, but i must say I realy liked your old musle car body!.. http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3357.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3358.jpg http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/IMG_3359.jpg P.S. I did a dry fit YES I can get this to mount on my GorillaMaxx.. |
oooo i want to see how this wiil look...i want to do this to my maxx too.

Dude.. You need to come down to our next so-Cal bsh.. it's a blast!.. Think about it!. Sorry to high jack your thread Neil..  Shaun.. |
I just got my slayer in on Monday and was taking pictures of it anyways. Hope these measurements help. Yours might vary slightly from my tape measure but they are pretty close.

Some closeup of wheel well and what not. http://s520.photobucket.com/albums/w...ody/?start=all |
Awesome work chaps, especially awesome pics Gee- those will be very helpful indeed
I do like my charger body, but it just doesnt look right on a truck with big wheels- a corr body however will look rather beasty, as seen above. I just need to practice my painting skills a little more on some old drinks bottles :mdr: |
Im curious to see if the sc8 body would fit an extended e-maxx, anybody try that yet?
|
Neil, if you are going to extend your chassis further you might want to look into the sc8 body. If I recall correctly the sc8 has a longer wheel base than a slash and the body is longer.
edit: it seems tyler and I had the same idea at the same time! |
I stopped at the LHS on the way home tonight and put the Slash body on the Revo they had sitting on the counter. It fit just like the pic's Gee put up. However, one issue is suspension travel. Unless you put some highlift body posts on it, you will have to cut away the fender area - not just make the wheel wells bigger. If you dont, it almost seems certain that the tires will tear up the body. Maybe with some serious offset rims they might clear also.....
|
I think that looks great with the wabash wheels. I think bowties would look better than bigjoe's though.
|
I've never been a fan of the Bigjoes, they were handy for the photos though since they are the same size and width as my Jumbo Clawdawgs (which few people have it seems, cant think why not though...).
I will explore the sc6 bodies also then- hopefully Jconcepts will come up with something nice for corr trucks, and the new emaxx too; I did ask them about that nearly 6 months ago and they said 'soon'. They lied... |
Suicideneil's G Maxx has a low ride hight from what I can see in his pics.. He should be ok. I had 2.2 clawdawgs on my T3 with a mm 7700 till I had a 55mph blow out. The center ripped out, looked like a bannana peel. It was loud as hell, and I almost passed out from laughing. Could'nt stop. The kid nextdoor could'nt believe it.
|
Low isnt the word- if it wasnt for the 6" tires, that thing would be a belly dragger for sure  Im quite impressed how well my clawdawgs cope with the high rpms I subject them to, thats the advantage of thicker rubber I guess..
|
Imex tires with think rubber? That's rare...
|
The Big Joes are for sale if anyone interested. I only put them on to make Niel happy. I've used them a few times but they are mainly used for photo shoots now. They do look good but are not really practical on any of my setups.
|
I'll trade you a set of 40s (rims and tires) for them in great shape ?? let me know and I'll pm you picture of them.. there 17mm hubs by the way..
have a great one Gee.. |
