Looking to buy MT/Truggy

All,

I kinda regret selling my Revo. Tough as nails and could go anywhere. I thought about getting another one, but figured I'd check here for other options.

I'm looking for a VERY lightly used MT or truggy roller. I want something with bullet-proof diffs, shocks, shock towers, drivetrain, etc. Leaning more to a MT because of suspension travel. This kinda led me to a Muggy, but am open to other options.

So, if anyone has something that fits that description, is in pristine condition, and wants to part with it for a decent price, let me know. I also have a few items (in sig) I can use as partial trade.

If I can't find anything, I'll probably just go get a new kit, or check eBay...

bdebde 12.16.2008 04:30 PM

I really like my Muggy, and the diffs can be had cheap and are nearly indestructible if done right. Just be sure to get the upgrade hard anodized chassis or other aftermarket one and all is good. The only weak spot is the bulks, but it usually takes an impact to break them. I have way overpowered it on occasion, and cartwheels cause no problem. Backflips tended to take out body posts, but that was without a wing at the time.

t-maxxracer32 12.16.2008 06:23 PM

ive had 2 muggys and they are alot of fun. the one i had recently broke its shock tower the first jump i went off of. i was wide open and hit a jump that landed in the streeet so i guess you should expect something to break.

overall great MT/truggy

JThiessen 12.16.2008 08:08 PM

Someone on here just (I mean yesterday!) let a Muggy go for real cheap on E-Bay. Had the RCM Mount and battery tray in it. I thought it was T-Maxxracer, but maybe not.

Yesterday there was also a new buy it now 8ight-T for about 300 bones on Ebay.

rawfuls 12.16.2008 08:29 PM

I have a EMaxx 3906, doesn't fit your requirements I believe, or does it? -.^

pb4ugo 12.16.2008 08:42 PM

I'm about to list or trade off my wife's Savage X SS since it's just sitting on the shelf. It has a half gallon of use on it. I'm gonna let it go as a true roller, no engine or electronics. Mine (built at the same time, together) has been the toughest truck I've ever seen. I'm mainly hoping to get an esc or motor as the end result, but I'm open. LMK if you want more info/pics.

t-maxxracer32 12.16.2008 09:03 PM

it was me. i actually ended up selling it to a member on the forum for a pretty good price i thought.

1 day too late!

BL_RV0 12.16.2008 10:27 PM

I have a MGT I could sell, shoot me a PM.

Fast5sRevo88 12.16.2008 10:34 PM

ygpm

BrianG 12.17.2008 02:38 PM

Thanks all for the offers/suggestions. I was kinda leaning towards a Muggy, but if I can scrape the funds together fast enough, I have the option to get an XT8 from a member here. And no, I won't say who's selling it because I want first dibs!

So, if anyone wants the items in my sig, now would be a GREAT time. Although, I technically don't have the HV-110 in my posession since Castle still has it...

lincpimp 12.17.2008 02:50 PM

If I may throw in a couple pennies...

I would get a lst2 over the muggy. My preference of course, but I do have both, and the lst is the better basher. It has a little more ground clearance, a little more suspension travel, and I prefer the tranny setup over the muggy's center diff.

I do have the FOC gear setup, with the gears swapped, a tdr single speed hub and am waiting on a tdr lst motor mount. I run 23/59 gearing and with a 1500kv motor on 6s with 40 series bowties it is at the perfect bash/play speed of 40mph.

Lst/muggy diffs are stout, especially with the al cases and the heavy duty 8t diff cups. I doubt that you will find a stronger drivetrain. I started with a new aftershock, which was not a bad price once I sold the radio and nitro stuff. But the aftershock has the lst1 suspension arms and hubs, and the lst2 are much stronger, as are the axles (true 1/8 type with 8mm ends and big bearings). Weight distribution is good with the battery in front of the tranny and the motor and esc behind. I run a 4500 30c 6s lipo, hacker c50 11xl (soon to be 1521 1y) and a MMM.

If you plan to buy either sign up to the lstforums. Tons of very good info there, and very little fluff to work around.

dirt101 12.17.2008 05:34 PM

I have had two revos and they were sweet no doubt, but I thought the drivetrain was very weak. I used to break the diffs when it was nitro, and every once and a while a tranny gear.

Then I got an MGT. It was definitly a sweet ride. you could basically drive the thing like you were in a parking lot, but really you could be in a rock garden. basically fly's over or through everything. The transmission gears are steel on the new ones, it has thick dogbones, and from what I hear the diffs are pretty strong. Now they dont really handle like a revo, but its definatly NOT a savage.

I dont have any experience with a muggy, so i cant really compare.

BrianG 12.30.2008 12:14 PM

Ok, I have narrowed it down to two options:

Losi 8T: NIB, but cheaper than retail.

XRay XT8: Used, lots of new stuff though with motor mount and battery already. Cheaper price.

I gotta make a decision! The deal on the Losi expires this week, but I won't see pictures of the xray until next week. Which would you pick?

JThiessen 12.30.2008 12:23 PM

8T due to parts availability. Not as "exotic" as an X-Ray, but I doubt if you would see any difference between the two when driving it.

entjoles 12.30.2008 12:49 PM

i really liked my xt8, i had some parts break that just didnt seem right , but it was when it was around 30* so that may be the cause , parts availability can be tough unless your lhs carries xray , amain is a great place for it online, if you dont mind ordering parts i say get the xt8

never owning a losi i can only lean towards what i know , but.......... the losi would be new and may be cheaper in the long run and its always nice to have a clean slate..

jhautz 12.30.2008 03:04 PM

Get the XT8 :mdr:

You wont need parts. It doesnt break!!!!!!

By far the toughest truck I ever owned.

rchippie 12.30.2008 03:10 PM

brian you know what im going to say you should get . .

BrianG 12.30.2008 04:05 PM

lol, you guys aren't helping! One says day, the other says night.

My LHS does carry Losi, but they never seem to have the part I need for whatever vehicle and I end up needing to order it anyway. So, ordering parts online is not a big deal as long as there is a place in the US that has everything I'd need (and amain looks like it does).

Decisions, decisions...

jayjay283 12.30.2008 04:09 PM

get an 8t and stop thinking so much, parts everywhere and I the master of suck driving cant break it

 WHAT HE SAID.. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

BrianG 12.30.2008 09:03 PM

Lol, you guys still aren't helping! For every person that says to go with option A, one says to go with option B. And I can't get both (unless someone wants to make a donation ). The offer for the Losi expires tomorrow, so I guess I'm just gonna have to flip a coin...

TDC57 12.30.2008 09:04 PM

I'll send you my XT8 keep it for a while then you'll know that group
"A" is the correct and only choice.. (I will want it back thou!) LOL.LOL..

BrianG 12.30.2008 09:06 PM

You do that and you might not get it back.

TDC57 12.30.2008 09:07 PM

:oh: well then NO  buy your own..:na:

rchippie 12.31.2008 01:10 AM

LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSI LOSi LOSI

BrianG 12.31.2008 01:12 AM

lol, I know I know. And time is running out. I hope the deadline is the end of the day on the 31st.

The hard part is that the XRay is just so damn sexy. If I had current pics of it (out of current owner's control), the decision would be a lot easier.

rootar 12.31.2008 01:19 AM

losi 8t are going for CHEAP they are a hard deal to beat, I would rather have a xray, but if money is tight and you dont care the losi is ALOT cheaper right now only about $300 for the 8t race roller with the sale price + discount right now...... that HARD to let slip by.

BrianG 12.31.2008 01:22 AM

Well, the thing is that the xray is cheaper than the Losi and it comes with a motor mount and battery tray already, but it is lightly used. So, it's not the money per se, it's about making the right decision.

lincpimp 12.31.2008 02:46 AM

Here is the light of reason (angel singing noises, the clouds open, etc...)

Do you have a selection of std hex drivers? Keep in mind the losi has std screws... I hate that. Just bugs me.

Plus the losi does not feel/look/instill quality feelings, any better than an ofna product.

Go with the xray, who cares if it is used, either way whatever you buy will be used after you use it the first time.

jayjay283 12.31.2008 04:18 AM

the standard scrw crap was annoying having maxx's rustlers etc but once you get that 8T you will not care. Xray is the "rolls royce" of RCs but those yugoslavians just chuck them in a box and dont care about you needing parts (though you may not need them from alot of testimony) 8T 8T

TDC57 12.31.2008 05:18 AM

Xt8.xt8, Xt8, Xt8.xt8, Xt8, Xt8.xt8, Xt8, Xt8.xt8, Xt8xt8.xt8, Xt8, Xt8.xt8, Xt8

auto2 12.31.2008 01:50 PM

hey my xt8 is under my workbench. havnt used it in months. i wanna baja 5t. you wanna xt8?

its brushless duh :-)

i have to sell my trex 450 and xt8 so i can get a baja 5t that ill have no place to use it lol

BrianG 12.31.2008 02:15 PM

Pending acceptable pictures, I have decided to go with the XT8. I can always change my mind about the 8T if the XT8 doesn't pan out, but it's hard to pass up the xray for the price and what is included!

auto2 12.31.2008 03:01 PM

new or used? i have lots of stuff if you need a part or something. ask mike as he has seen mine if your interested.

BrianG 12.31.2008 04:02 PM

It is "lightly used" according to the seller. And he has a bunch of parts included already. Don't know exactly what is included for spare parts though. Once I get it in hand, I'll know more. I do like to have spare parts though, so I'll probably be looking you up at a later time. Thanks!

BrianG 01.11.2009 01:01 AM

Update: Just wanted to say I ended up getting jhautz's Xray XT8. It came with spare arms, shafts, etc. It also came with 808 shock upgrade too! Pretty good deal.

The 808 shocks will work in front, but I want to use Muggy shocks in the rear. This will be more of a basher, so I'm setting it up for lots of ground clearance. Trying to find a good deal on some aluminum ones...

jhautz 01.11.2009 02:52 AM

You do realize how big muggy shocks are right? They are huge diameter. like 3 times the 808 shock diameter(judging by eye) Not even sure you could get them on without them rubbing on "stuff".

BrianG 01.11.2009 03:28 AM

Yeah, I knew they were huge but was hoping they would fit. I was just looking for a little more length and throw TBH.

Stock shocks: 133mm long (hole to hole) fully extended to 93mm fully compressed (40mm throw). 20mm diameter incl springs; 16mm diameter of shock body (non-threaded part).

808 shocks: 115mm long fully extended to 85mm fully compressed (30mm throw). 24mm diameter incl spings; 17 mm of shock body.

Would like: 135-140mm long full extended to 95mm fully compressed (40-45mm throw). From 24mm to a max of 34mm diameter.

Are there any shocks out there that fit my "Would like" requirements?

The truck is in great shape. The only things I've done so far is install the new arms and CVDs you included (like to have a "like new" appearance on a fresh conversion ), reshim the front diff (pinion) because of a tad bit of resistance, clean the bearings, and replace the rear C hub hingepins because they were slightly bent and they squeaked (I used a set of pins from something else shortened about 2mm).

I'm probably gonna make a top plate similar to my MBX5/CORR truck and GTP car. I know the chassis is supposed to flex for handling purposes, but I'd rather have durability.

jayjay283 01.11.2009 03:40 AM

ill y=trade you a sick 100% rebuilt muggy for that ofna street car, no electris just fair trade

BrianG 01.11.2009 03:51 AM

No way. I love the GTP now that I removed the 2 speed. Really fun to drive in the street. Besides, I already have my truggy-MT hybrid (or will be when finished).
