It's still snowing. The City (pop. 456,175 in 2007) and surrounding areas are pretty much shut down. The City buses all went back to their terminal. They get a snow day too. The Police and State Patrol have requested everyone stay off the roads.

Your never too old to enjoy a snow day!

DickyT 12.18.2008 02:38 PM

wow.... I am envious, It is 80 here and does not feel decemberish at all.

lincpimp 12.18.2008 03:03 PM

Mid 70's and muggy in Da Dell (slightly north of New Orleans). Is has been very foggy recently, which is unusual for this area. Horrible weather, about 5000% humidity. If you live somewhere with low humidity levels, consider yourself lucky.

I missed the recent snow. We got 3 inches last week, but I was in orlando... Missed the last time it snowed too, back in 2004...

_paralyzed_ 12.18.2008 03:34 PM

i got 8-10 inches:intello:

I believe "I got" is a statement of he has, not he received. I could be way off base here though.

JThiessen 12.18.2008 04:07 PM

I heard you guys got dumped on this morning. We're getting it too on this side of the hill - Arlington has 23" this morning - unheard of for this side. (For those of you that dont know - I'm in the greater Seattle area).

Yeah, you guys aren't use to getting any snow over there. Get a few inches and it shut down Seattle. Spokanes got like what 10 - 15 plows. Doesn't Snohomish and King county share the same plow and just take turns with it?

magman 12.18.2008 05:47 PM

We are expecting 8-12" on the Cape...wahoooo! A lot of OT for me! I am one of the sick people at work who doesn't mind staying up all night to work...especially at the ot rate!

According to the weather report, Des Moines is gonna get all kinds of freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Yuk. Snow is ok (it's the other idiot drivers, particularly 4WD trucks, you have to watch out for). Ice sucks unless you have studded tires, and even then it can be difficult. Looks like I'll be staying home tomorrow...

Magman beat me to it, but we here in New England are going to have ~12 of snow by tomorrow night. There's a second storm coming in on Sunday........

I did that in college to make a little extra money. I loved it (then). Was the first I ever knew there was more than one 4 o'clock.

I agree that you guys that get the ice storms are in a world of hurt. Freezing rain is the second worst stuff I have ever driven in (several blizzards were the worst - sucks when you cant even see the front of your truck, and you cant stop cause someone behind you will never see you).

In our area, people in Exporers are the worst drivers in these conditions. They are the soccer mom vehicle of choice, and most have no clue as to the conditions. Most guys in trucks drive fairly sane, albeit a little faster than the cars. I've driven probably a hunderd thousand miles in snow and ice in my time - been lucky, been good, and been damn lucky a couple times, but have never been more than just a little sideways. But I also had to laugh at the guys trying to get to work in their 'Vettes and Mustangs. I'm not really sure what their thought process was to think that they were making a good choice drivng something like that in conditions like this.

The one nice thing is that holiday shopping has been much nicer for those of us who completely avoid the malls at this time of year.

plettenbergs 12.19.2008 08:10 AM

nice pics...I am in ATLANTA and it is 60 degrees at 7am in December!!...I would love to see some snow!!...we used to get a lot of snow before Obama was elected:lol:

cembom 12.19.2008 08:19 AM

Ha my mom was hoping for a snow day. It didnt start snowing til this morning but it is coming down fast snow. The wind and dust like snow make it hard too see and the harsh winds cut any exposed flesh. I wish I had a Blizzard or a snow mobile. Actually I wish I had a plow too make a little extra money.

Gee 12.19.2008 08:27 AM

Here's where we ended up yesterday. I tried to take the picutes from the same spots. It snowed all day and the snow got heavier. The pictures in the morning it was a real dry snow and easy to showel. By the afternoon that was a different story and the new snow was packing down the powder.

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...TotalSnow2.jpg

http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...Totalsnow1.jpg

We broke a record for the most snowfall in a 24hr period.:yipi:

I would just like to say Thanks, to everyone for their athletic supporters. Breaking the record really wasn't a team effort at all. Coming into this none of us really were thinking about the record. I guess that's the way most thing get broken though. From not thinking. But it happended and even though there is an astrick next to it. We are pretty sure we were sober when it started snowing. We will always vaguly remember this special record breaking day in November.

Started that project I've been putting off also. Shoveled a 100' trench out to a small garage were I had this thing all summer. I remember walking around it serveral times. Thinking I should take some time and get that thing running before winter.

I still got time. I don't think it is winter until the 21st.

George16 12.19.2008 09:12 AM

I missed the snow. Last time drove my brother's snowmobile was when I went home to Michigan for Xmas in 03.

Pedebeater 12.19.2008 09:39 AM

We picked up another 7 inches today and were suppose to get another 7inches or more on saturday. We just had a major storm last week which dumped 11.5inches which cancelled school. So yeah today school is cancelled again.

What's_nitro? 12.19.2008 03:38 PM

I don't think that leaf-blower is going to do you any good. I'm hesitant to give that snow-thrower any extra credit! It just started to snow at my house. They say it will continue into the early morning. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

TDC57 12.20.2008 05:58 AM

I showed this thread to my kids today and they were floored!, :gasp: they couldn’t believe it!, they just don’t have a clue!..:lol:

I'm sorry for you but happy for me!..:rofl:

JThiessen 12.20.2008 12:06 PM

Wow - the greater Puget Sound area (Vancouver WA-Seatttle- VancouverBC) now has a blizzard warning.
I have never heard of there being a blizzard here - people are going to freak!

Its ok. I really do enjoy the snow and my motto is "if were going to get snow it needs to be alot of it to make it worth while."

What's_nitro? 12.20.2008 02:45 PM

Well, we ended up with about 10" total at my place. It's the heavy, wet-on-the-bottom-so-you-can't-shovel-it kind of snow. Good thing my parents decided to buy a snow thrower at 4:00 PM yesterday afternoon!

I have to work tomorrow at 10:00 AM, so I may be driving through the next storm. :oh:

Metallover 12.20.2008 04:03 PM

We got a blizzard last night. Not too much snow, maybe 4", but its cold as.... It's cold. It's just below zero now with a killer wind chill but tonight it's supposed to get down to -10 with a -40 -50 wind chill. Winds are 20-45mph.

Gee 12.20.2008 06:52 PM

The wind chill is killer. Had that the kind the other day and it didn't matter how well you were bundled up it just when right through you. I think they said a wind chill of -27 but once it below F***** cold it doesn't matter what temp it is it is just plain F******* cold out! I was talking to another rcm member from so cal and mentioned once you get those temps out of the way there rest of winter seems like a heat wave.

Haha yeah. The temp has been seadily falling and now it's -28 wind chill at the moment. I agree, it'll feel like summer once we get out of this viscious cold. First week af constand +10 will do it.

Yeah. I'm usually good for about 35* before I even need to wear a jacket. If there's wind, then it may be raised to 40*.

Jeremy1976 12.21.2008 11:42 AM

I can relate to this guy. This is what I woke up to this morning.... The driveway and road is out there somewhere...... Oh, its -5 out too and 40 mph wind gusts....
