Brushless Supervader

I'm starting this thread for my next project. I am getting the MMM combo for xmas, and so I have my old electrical system with nowhere to go but in my evader! I'm going to cram a Fiegao 8L motor, mamba max and 5s protek lipo in this thing. My plan so far is to use the stock transmission, with a mod 1 spur and pinion set. I forget what count the spur is, since Im getting it off a friend, but the pinion is 10t. If worse comes to worse and the motor will not fit, I will make a custom aluminum plate/motor mount for the extra space. Since I realized that it wasn't the smartest thing leaving the 8l hanging off the back where its subject to all sorts of abuse(wheelies!) I am using a 1/8" thick 2 inch wide piece of flatstock that will be bolted to the chassis from underneath the evader, and will be bent up past the back of the 8l and past the front of the bulkhead to keep everything nice and safe. using the speed calculator, my top speed will be 51mph! All I need is about 20 inches of 2 inch flatstock, 1/8th inch thick. everything else, I have

BL_RV0 12.18.2008 11:23 PM

That sounds okay. I'd volt down and gear up...

Takedown 12.18.2008 11:34 PM

Good luck keeping the tranny in one peice for more than a speed run. I couldnt keep it toghther even on 2s.

eovnu87435ds 12.19.2008 01:11 AM

as for volting down and gearing up, its going to be made from spare parts. I have no more brushes for the brushed motor
for it, so, why not? and iif that gets destroyed, I will find something else to do with it. Of course, I could always program the mamba to down the throttle.

Friday Night, and parents wont let me leave the house.. guess im gonna Work on your aluminum pieces...

Im feeling a wheelie bar... Turkey bar Jr.
something like this.

I created the bumber/skid plate/motor protector tonight, and Have it bolted onto the evader, and its HUGE. I will post pics as soon as I take em

t-maxxracer32 12.20.2008 03:42 AM

i think you made it a little too big. if you nosedive with that thing or hit a steep jump it may have a hard time with it.

brushlessboy16 12.20.2008 10:44 AM

Over kill on the bolts... why dont you use the holes that are already in the chassis with longer screws?

and that is just a tad too much... added weight and not exactly aerodynamic

eovnu87435ds 12.20.2008 01:04 PM

its actually not that heavier than before... but i could see where it could be a bit nose heavy... hopefully all the electronics sitting towards the rear will help to balance it out

eovnu87435ds 12.20.2008 02:07 PM

well, I just took the evader, taped a heavy dog toy to the back(to simulate the electronics) and started chucking it around the yard, and to my surprise the nose did not want to dip at all!

riverat1540 12.21.2008 11:43 AM

what have u one to beef up the diff setup is that the evader st diff?

trev3813 12.21.2008 11:45 AM

The one im sending you is an ext.

riverat1540 12.21.2008 11:57 AM

i hate to say it but u will not get far before u destroy that diff gear or burn up the diff, the balls will melt the plastic in the diff. I know i had my evader up to 55 with a 3s pack and a mamba max 5700kv system, i did every upgrade known to man excpept the aluminum diff gear which only one person has one and this manurfacturing them but only got as far as the prototype as there was no demand for a 60dollar gear shipped. i have the brushless evader video on u tube with the gps runs and the crash at the end. i have since moved to the rustler jaco foams as they are larger than the old ones in the vid. i could not drive it with out burring up diffs from the inside out unless i babied the throttle which u could never get to top speed. i since have sold the mamba system and just have the built up roller on the shelf as i built a crt pro brushless on 5s and that project kind of broke the bank so its gonna be a while before i figure out what im gonna do with it. just a heads up i would not expect great things from this tranny as it will either burn up or strip under high power.

eovnu87435ds 12.21.2008 09:21 PM

IT LIVES!!!!! pics and the story and vids up ASAP

trev3813 12.21.2008 09:30 PM

Congrats, and now i'll talk to you on aim, lol

eovnu87435ds 12.21.2008 11:28 PM

It Lives!!

So i was at ben's house today, and besides the bash from hell returning to haunt me, we decided to work on my supervader, and we finally got it running! It was a pain and a half, but thanks to the heated garage, we finally managed to get it running last minute before I had to go home. we had to extend the motor mount slots, mod the slipper to house a mod1 spur gear, shave down the plastic housing of the transmission, and then carve off some of the fins of my 8L and finally it all fit! by that point i got the call that my dad was on his way, so we just rushed, put the lipo on, and then took the entire sharkfin from the hyper 7 and placed it ontop of the lipo, plugged in ben's dsm rx and let it dangle, then ziptied the whole thing together, and ran it on a nearly dead 5S lipo. it was amazingly fast!

FYI there isnt much you can hear in the vids... my phone decided to not stop playing music while shooting videos, and it kinda made them sound really REALLY bad...

trev3813 12.21.2008 11:30 PM

Niceeeeeeeeee I like the bumpers still.

BL_RV0 12.21.2008 11:31 PM

You call that ballooning? That's nothing!

brushlessboy16 12.21.2008 11:31 PM

I still want to run the cc2200 on that thing just for shits and giggles

BL_RV0 12.21.2008 11:40 PM

...and a blown tranny right?

brushlessboy16 12.21.2008 11:49 PM

we all know that the 8l on 5s will kill it... i just wanna see if i can shake it apart at 60mph :)

BL_RV0 12.22.2008 12:40 AM

Showoff...

brushlessboy16 12.22.2008 12:42 AM

whos the one who just got free lipos? and Im the showoff

riverat1540 12.22.2008 12:42 AM

im sure it is make sure u take pics of that diff gear when it blows i want to see what goes first the diff ball cups or the teeth, lol 3s is too much power for an evader diff i cant imagine how much overkill 5s is. if u want to get any speed out of it change to foams bcause once that thing gets to about 40 those tires will be like pizza cutters especially if they are worn out. nice build though very creative. would try to fit a different tranny though like an all metal vxl rustler tranny perhaps

eovnu87435ds 12.23.2008 09:04 PM

I have been lookin around a bit for a vxl tranny, but in the meantime, I have 2 vader trannys, so I got some time on my hands... by the way, now that I had some time(yay winter break!) I was able to wire up my vader in a way that does not include ziptie-ing my sharkfin and lipo to the chassis! All i need to do is get one more male pwm plug and i can make another reed switch for this truck. note that the fan is just taped in place because I didnt feel like de-soldering it just yet...

BL_RV0 12.23.2008 10:27 PM

Looks much better. Make a mount for the esc near the rear of the truck so you can shorten the motor wires. Also consider getting a rx box.

Takedown 12.23.2008 11:30 PM

What the hell is that thing in the battery tray. I keep thinking its a weight or a peice of wood.

it is....

Takedown 12.24.2008 12:06 AM

Bingo! What do I win? "The peice of wood?"

BL_RV0 12.24.2008 12:10 AM

Probably not as I did not win Jordan's bumpers off his G-Maxx when I guessed correctly that they were the items missing.

eovnu87435ds 12.24.2008 07:22 PM

yes indeed it was a block of wood... not only does it anchor the bumpers, my lipo dont fit in the tray so i needed a nee platform for it! i put DSM in it, and it runs amazingly!

BL_RV0 12.24.2008 07:31 PM

A "nee" platform?

eovnu87435ds 02.11.2009 09:21 PM

http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...venkittens.jpg

well, its official. i no longer have the supervader... i handed it off to ben since i am getting a rustler vxl. but dont cry, i told him he has to keep it supersized, so the bumper is staying!
