Lipo sacks
Hi everyone, When charging two lipos, should I buy two seperate lipo sacks to charge them in? Or charge both lipos in one sack?
|
in all honesty i think a ammo case from the surplus store works fine....maybe even better. They are about $10 at my local shop
|
One lipo sack for each battery. Ammo boxes are NOT safe when things go "wrong".
|
ya, one in each cuz if theyre in the same sack n 1 pack goes boom, the other one is at risk of doing the same even if theres nothing wrong with it

It is the same principal as letting a firecracker go off in your "closed fist". The ammo box will not give and so the energy will not disipate. Same holds true for fire safes.
Have you guys seen a vid of a lipo sack in action? It totally puffs up (contains the flames) and allows it to vent (just smoke) safely. For all the money we spend on Lipo, BL, etc. this is good money to spend on safety. By the way I am in no way connected with this company. In fact if anyone knows where to get a good deal on them I would appreciate it. I need to get two. |
I use the lipo sacks, I have 2 white ones from maxamps.com (shutup) and 2 black ones from impaktrc.com. I use 1 to charge 2 lipos as I use the 0610duo, but as Pedeboi said 1 of them flames you are out 2 lipos so best to charge in seperate sacks. I read before the ammo box or safes dont disperse (sp?) enough oxygen and turn into bombs if they flare up. Enjoy that though, im not here to tell anyone what to do lol

That's why I drilled some holes on my ammo box. One hole is big enough for the connectors to go through. The holes will dissipate the smoke letting off the pressure and preventing the box in becoming a sharpnel.
Best of all, the ammo boxes were free. I got them from the shooting range on base. |
wow 2 good arguments. ok how do you route the wires to the ammo box; or do you leave it open to vent the pressure?.
Does the lipo sack smother the fire, and the ammo box provide a safe burn area? damn took me 5 minutes to ask and the answer was there |
If I was using an ammo box, and Ive thought about it, Id have a sack of sand near by. The lipo sack is like a firemans jacket and you could grab it and throw it outside ( (providede your doors close or Id revert to the sand) no water smothewr and roll... To get those lipos charging in an ammo box you would need to make a long ass charging cords or cut some weird holes in it. Notice my bias

I have a lipo sack and honestly don't use it for charging! If I noticed damage to the pack I just wouldn't charge it. Charging a Lipo with a balancer is pretty safe as long as the pack isn't damaged. I store my Lipos in the sack, and honestly I usually have a couple that aren't in it. Call me a ignorant but I just don't see anything happening to packs that are in good condition!
|
well revo I wasnt going to go there, I thought stuff on the net being sort of in concrete should be good advise LOL, I never use a lipo sack, I rest them on top of them as I paid $40 for them, if I get around to it, but id rather watch the puppy puff. I only charge my lipos when im close though, as I blew up a 7 cell maxamp NIMH pack that scared the crap out of me. Since I bought the 0610I duo and a 36a I have never had a blip or .02v off charge. Ignorant maybe but i do have those lipo sacks close to use as pot holders if crap happens, but in over 400 combined charges ive not had a fart

from my understanding you have to MAKE lipos blow up. still from my understandig |
So many paranoid people out there! Honestly a little common sense goes a long way with Lipos. If it's damaged simply don't charge it and always use a balancer!
|
Lipo sacks are for pansy's...:whip: Theirs nothing to be worried about when charging a lipo unless your a complete idiotic moron who cant read a manual on how to charge a lipo, then you've got some issues... But seriously, lipo sacks serve no purpose if you know what your doing. Plus Ive heard of cases were lipo sacks have failed on larger packs.
|
I have $80 of lipo sacks, $1200 of Neuenergey 30c lipos an some really shady ones ive bought off ebay. I have never had a lipo puff, spark or fart while charing with the 061iduo, If you have a bag of sand or charge them in in an ammo can or or home made bomb lipo shelter, I agree you shouldn't be messing with these in the 1st place LOL
|
I don't think it matters what you use to charge lipos in as long as the following guidlines are met:
> Container should absorb a flame up, not contain it. There should be breathing holes to vent the pressure. > Container is non-conductive. If the wires happen to touch a metal object at the same time, it could CAUSE a problem. This may be true if there are holes drilled and the wire insulation chafes. > Container should be able to dissipate enough heat, or insulate the heat, in a flame up to not catch fire to whatever it is sitting on. |
Brian always so rational..lets hear the good stuff... If you toss them in snow it will cause so much hydrogen (well if you lean over it and intentionally inhale lol) you will die
I read this whole site before playing with lipos as I though I would die, from rumors, we are all safe as doves in a roof top cage http://www.batteryuniversity.com/ ... id also hit up some airplane sites those old dudes been flying for 20 years before the had the name lipo know whats up neil and shaun can laugh about this but they both made me think id catch on fire....great mates |
I would have checked here 1st but I didnt know about this site till later. If I had I would have had my questions answered by the masters, But i searched the net as a lonely wolf until Neil coughed up the mecca of bf brushless, elecrtic gods ( nice enough? shounded like a dick in the last post as though i had to search everywhere but here) ( when here is where I get the answers)

I both store and charge my lipos in a sack.
I have 2 of those Racers Edge sacks from Impakt RC. I don't see a reason not to use them. It's not a hassle or anything. How else do you transport all your packs around? When I go out I usually have 6 or 8 packs. I've never had a problem charging any of my packs. (although I have farted) The only fires I've ever had were esc's. I use them at the track just out of respect for others and for safety. |

As for transportation, the same "guidelines" apply. Stuffing all your lipos in one or two sacks (or one ammo box) works, but if one happens to flame up, there go the other ones too. But, having multiple sacks gets a bit expensive for what you get. |
