Sweetride's X1 CRT conversion

So I started with this setup, I decided to stick with the stock 62t spur

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...n/DSC03898.jpg
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...n/DSC03899.jpg

Here are all the pieces I started with for this conversion.. we have the RC-Monster motor mount and servo tray thingy, tekno V3 battery tray and straps

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...n/DSC03900.jpg

Here is the motor mount installed

http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...n/DSC03901.jpg

I decided to make my own esc/center diff top brace combo instead of spending the $21 from rc product designs and I like mine better and will deffinetly look better with some of my sweet polishing (more pics to follow), it is 6061 t6 2mm plate stock bent just right....

With the servo/rx mount installed

Here it is after I finised drilling/countersinking and installing the tekno V3 batt tray
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...n/DSC03907.jpg

The clerence I have between the center diff and batt tray is actually more than I expected

This weekend I'll be installing my DX3S telemetry reciever ( I might end up making a nice lexan receiver box for it.. ) and ordering my mamba monster 2200kv combo to power this beast .... my battery choice is still up in the air (it will need to be 4s though as I have an align charger and that's the max it can handle) thinking zippy 4s 50000mah...

Please all input is welcome and let me know what you guys think... :mdr:

CRTIM 01.16.2009 11:41 PM

looks good so far brotha ....one thing to think about tho ...when your battery is in your tray it looks like the spur gear will be in the way....plus it's right in line of where your battery strap will be ....just a thought

I noticed the same thing....you set up looks good so far, keep us updated!

Did you make your rear mud guards...if so are they made out of clear lexan?...I wasn't sure.

magman 01.16.2009 11:50 PM

I also made my own top plate for my 2 crt.5 and it looks exactly like the one you made and it was a lot cheaper than $ 21-...

sweetride4me 01.17.2009 12:04 AM

Luckily my CRT came with the mud gaurds and the big bore shocks already :mdr:... I night nend up moving my batt tray forward, but was trying to keep it back for better weight distribution... ????????

Someone chime in and help

CRTIM 01.17.2009 12:17 AM

i was told when i converted my CRT x1.... the further forward the weight of the battery is on the CRT x1 the better ....would help improve the steering

jayjay283 01.17.2009 03:38 AM

thats cool Sweet, id like a center diff like that for mine (8T), I have the RC prod one' rolling the RCM diff and that RC prod is just junk, it bends when I fart... Losi 8t when you flip the diff around to fit brushless apps puts the long side of the spur cover over the battery so it wont even touch

http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12773

cant really tell, but the long side of the cover is now on the battery side

George16 01.17.2009 07:41 AM

Looking good Chris. I agree with moving the battery tray forward. I say move it forward about an inch for the battery strap to clear the spur, better weight distribution, and better on-power turning due to added weight to the front.

Did you make the aluminum servo mount yourself? It looks real good.

No the servo tray came with the CRT kit from Rc-Monster..... The center diff cover/esc mount is just mocked for now, still have to make it pretty...

jayjay send me a stock top brace for measurements and I'll make you one if you'd like, and trust me this one will no bend....

Thanks all for the info on the batt tray I'll mess with it some more later today... :mdr:

Great job on your build I have finished my X1 CRT, you my want to look at it and maybe see the issues that i have found, a Slash weather proof receiver box would be so much better then a lexan box and the Slash box will bolt right onto the servo plate without any mods. It may be that your battery tray is to close to the spur with a battery in it, I found it best to wait on installing the tray until I had a battery I had to move my tray twice. You could always put 2 nihm packs ( they would have the same hieght as a 4 or 5 cell lipo )in the tray and see if touches the spur. Here is a link to my build for you to check out http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17637 Keep us updated.

Rnemhrd 01.17.2009 03:21 PM

The E Maxx waterproof raciecer box is a little smaller and will fit on the servo plate. I used one existing hole and drilled and tapped a second to hold the box.You can see it here. http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...7091418a-1.jpg

superek4 01.18.2009 06:28 AM

hi, wat batt can u put in that batt tray? It look good but can't fit my 4s 5000 lipo it's 160mm in length but d tray is only 150mm

emaxx101 01.18.2009 10:04 AM

First off the truck looks good... second... wouldnt just having your battery straps like this:
http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/l...ranger/yes.jpg
(note the awesome MS paint skills) Wouldnt having them like in the picture be enough?

sweetride4me 01.18.2009 10:34 AM

I'll try that emaxx101... thanks

superek4 what batt do you have??

I was going to do some trimming or use velcro to rais the batt just a bit since the side wall is about 1/8 - 1/4" tall... :mdr:

Mine is 4s 5000 lipo zippy

sweetride4me 01.25.2009 04:50 PM

Here is a pic of the ESC mount trimmed down and shined up a bit, also the waterproof emaxx receiver box installed (MMM combo and my 4s lipo on order due here mid this week)

riverat1540 01.25.2009 06:06 PM

everything looks good except the battery tray, there is nothing to keep te battery from shifting into the spur, here is my setup but as u found using the 62 spur doent let u get many batt tray placement options, i bought a new era batt tray and modified it for my 5s 5000mah zippy pack, bolted it in for places to the frame for rock solid mount and its nice as the tray has walls up the side to keep the battery in place from side shifting as velcro has give hope this helps

No problem sweetride.I guess you did polish that mount.I run one of these in my x1. gives a little extra room for the battery.52t Hyper st spider diff. http://cgi.ebay.com/OFNA-Ho-Bao-Hype...3A1%7C294%3A50 http://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...91928_01-1.jpghttp://i307.photobucket.com/albums/n...125091930a.jpg

riverat1540 01.26.2009 07:59 PM

looks much better nice job

sweetride4me 01.26.2009 08:51 PM

Thanks guys..

If I wanted to run a kyosho 46t spur which one would I buy and would it make a huge difference on my final drive???

Thanks in advance

riverat1540 01.26.2009 08:54 PM

if u do that change te ring and pinion gears to the LSP gears
that will compensate for the gearing change

sweetride4me 01.27.2009 07:26 AM

Which spur would I want??

What pinion size are you running Rnemhrd??? Just got the diff installed and want to get the right pinion

sweetride4me 02.07.2009 02:45 PM

Here's my latest update

I'll try and get the vids asap, but with the weather here it might be hard to get good ones for a bit.

So here is the batt I'm running ... it's the zippy H 5000mah 4s 20-30c
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/DSC03980.jpg

Here is the castle combo as it comes from the factory
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/DSC03969.jpg
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/DSC03970.jpg

Here is everything mounted up, obviously I took this pic AFTER the test run. It has the tekno dual shank pinion on right now beacause my loctite didn't hold and the RCM pinion went flying :D
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/DSC03981.jpg

And here is the clearence for my batt, with the tray mounted more forward and outward with the 62T spur gear on atm. I just changed it to the 52T ofna hyper st pro truggy center diff which leaves a lot more room for the batt..
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...e/DSC03982.jpg

I'll get vids up asap, but I have already converted my 2 RC buds at work to brushless after seeing this thing go today so my next build will be converting my buds revo... :mdr:

BL_RV0 02.07.2009 03:27 PM

Looks good dude.

Rnemhrd 02.09.2009 09:36 PM

Try 13t or 14t. 15t is fast but the batterys got warmer than I liked.4s Neuenergy 4900s hit 120 at the end of cutoff. speed runs and hard breaking due lack of runoff space.I would stay away from the losi gears due to the small set screw.I have issues with it coming loose. Been lucky enough to find it 5 time.I have yet to have one of mikes gears come loose. Cheesecake recomended this part and it is nice. king headz steering top plate http://www.kingheads.com/product_inf...e538471f277a43 he said in another thread the carbon one breaks easily.I got it before I broke the carbon one.

sweetride4me 02.09.2009 09:40 PM

Thanks for the info... I was looking at that for my next upgrade... are you using blue loctite on the setcrew for the pinion???

Thanks again
-Chris

George16 02.09.2009 10:52 PM

Blue loctite for me.

Chris, where are the videos?

sweetride4me 02.10.2009 07:16 AM

I'm getting my buddy to bring in his video camera (if he ever remembers) but for now I'm going to use my digital camera's movie feature to get some quick videos up for a start, I'll ge taking them at lunch today and trying to post tonight, this will be my first movie upload to photobucket.... :mdr:

Rnemhrd 02.10.2009 07:39 PM

Yup. Blue loctite.Maybe it will get a good build up on the threads and stay before I lose it for good.I have a vid of me jumping the snowbank infront of the house with my x1crt. I just need my GFs son to download it off his camera. The snowbank is about 6ft tall and I was close to the lowest wires on the telephone poles.I need to get on him before it gets lost.

sweetride4me 02.10.2009 08:27 PM

Yeah I want to see that vid for sure...

sweetride4me 02.11.2009 02:39 PM

Here's a quick vid with my crappy digi camera...will post better ones soon made with a good video camera

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jbjkqbgusso&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jbjkqbgusso&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

skellyo 02.11.2009 05:18 PM

You may want to try a little thicker fluid in the center diff. That's a heck of a lot of ballooning going on in the front.

sweetride4me 02.11.2009 09:17 PM

LOL...yeah going with the 30k Rnemhrd had suggested to me :mdr:

This was my 2nd real test with the new center diff and I was still playing around a bit, this weekend I'll be changing the center diff fluid to that thicker stuff.

riverat1540 04.21.2009 07:28 PM

sorry to see u had to sell it hope u get what u want for it

sweetride4me 04.22.2009 08:25 AM

Thanks... having a house makes for some fun unexpected expenses causing sacrifices... oh well I'll build one again soon:mdr:
