Awesome looking truck! Nice job! Did you make all the mounts yourself? What other custom work was involved? Have you ever owned a HPI baja 5b? How would you compare them? Sorry for all the questions, but you did a great job on it.

Thanks.Yes i have made all the mount myself.
I made the motor mount,Lipo tray.ESC tray and the 10mm shaft.
I made all the mounts separate from each other,so i can remove the motor or the ESC as i like.
And yes i have owned a Hpi baja 5b,loved that car.
But you can`t compare it with the fg.The FG is more a race car with short axle distance, and short shockers.
The Hpi is a bashing car,and a good one to.
Keep the questions comming:smile::smile::smile:

Is this Joke? In our tracks Baja 5B dominating always, many drivers took HPI bajas exchanged their FG's. And one major reason is bad suspension! Small by diametre and by travel shocks. Even our FG drivers started discussion about separating 1/5 and 1/6 to different classes which is made last year. And still baja dominates in track because somedrivers shortened wheelbase :) to fit 1/6 class
All this to 2WD cars
I dont lame FG and dont know nothing about 4WD FG. But speak that I heard and see in our tracks :)

I have never tried the 2wd,but i do have a 4wd comp.that is spesificly made for raceing.i had a Hpi baja for 2 years, and that is my personal opinion .
You can not compere the 2wd with the 4wd.but i agree with your opinion on the 2wd case.

DickyT 01.22.2009 05:43 PM

Great looking truck, you did some nice work on the fabrication!

tom255 01.22.2009 05:44 PM

OT:
yeah 2WD and 4WD are different worlds no comparsion there. One local guy was fairly good driver on 1/10 2WD stadium truck, he tried 1/8 conversion truggy and he was realy fast and accurate after couple laps. Very stable without mistakes driving. 4WD is much more forgiving for driver throttle and brake mistakes. If you good driver in 2WD class probably you will be better driver in 4WD ;)

Hope to see Video how otrunner works in your Truck. What electrical system specs? Motor? How Many Lipos, Speed Controller?
And allways I am interested in weight how much it lighter or hevier from original version of FG? Probably its to early to ask yet. But I will keep eye on that. Allways liked big car conversions

monsterbaja 01.22.2009 05:59 PM

I will keep you all updated as i move along.
I will give some more spec. tomorrow ,but here is what i have used so far:

--TITAN 85/110A 12S Brushless ESC OPTO.
--OBL 49/08 E620 Brushless .770 kv.10s lipo
--10s (2 x 5s) 5000 - 6000 mah.(not shore jet)

--37v
--28000rpm

Thanks for looking :smile::smile::smile:

suicideneil 01.22.2009 07:33 PM

Looks beasty if nothing else, will keep an eye on this build as its very well done and clean looking.

redshift 01.22.2009 09:09 PM

I'd love to do a large scaler- problem is my wallet is not large scale...

Very nice work!

And welcome to the only RC forum that matters

Takedown 01.22.2009 11:00 PM

Very nice man.

Unsullied_Spy 01.23.2009 04:16 AM

Saw your build on the Baja forum, looks very good. Definitely get some video of that running.

BTW, pics loaded fine on IE 8 Beta

Ryu James 01.24.2009 07:13 AM

i have been looking and planning for my large scale conversion which i will start this spring. i was going to convert my 1/5 on road smartech but decided against it cuz on road just doesnt do it for me. so here is my dilemma now. i really want 4wd but the HPI baja is so much more friendly in every way. it is really the only large scale kit that exists in my area and parts are and upgrades are super easy to get. the other large scale kits are virtually obsolete around here. so i am torn. do i go with a 4wd kit which is what i want but then have troubles getting upgrades and parts (or have to wait 2 weeks every time i order). or do i sacrifice the 4wd and get the HPI and have and endless amount of possible hop ups and parts always avail?

from you HPI owners out there is it possible to make the 5b or 5t 4wd? has anyone tried? does anyone have a hookup with somebody that could make some fat 8mm CVDs?

here is one that i am really looking at. only draw back is this 4wd system is belt instead of shaft.

http://www.largescalerc.com/index.as...OD&ProdID=1817

anyone out there owned one of these?

how does the 5b do brushless style? the last 2wd brushless i had couldnt hold the road worth a shi*. wheelies and peel outs if you wanted to get on it at all. i just like 4wd so much more.

anyway, i am looking forward to this build. post lots of pics.

monsterbaja 01.24.2009 07:39 AM

Hey ryu.if you look at the pictures at the beginning of this tread, you will see that this car http://www.largescalerc.com/ProductI...014wdbuggy.jpg

Is the one i am building brushless.:mdr:
Hpi baja is a great car,no doubt, but if you want a 4wd drive, you will regret it if you settle for 2wd.
The quality of the FG baja 4WD comp. is just amazing,i haven never broken a a single part off the car..Good luck, ask me anything .

JERRY2KONE 01.24.2009 07:51 AM

Great work.

Hey there monsterbaja that is a nice looking truck, and 4X4 is definitely a huge plus. It always feels much better when you can manufacture your own mounts and do any kind of custom work. Not that it is impossible to duplicate, but copies are hard to come by. Nice work on your toy. AND welcome to the RCM group. We do it better in here, because we are electrified brushless monsters. Have some fun and jump right in, the water is fine.:yipi::yes:

monsterbaja 01.24.2009 08:36 AM

Thanks Jerry. This is a great forum,i was recommended this forum from "masterblaster" at the Hpibajaforum. i can`t believe i haven`t notice this before.

JERRY2KONE 01.24.2009 08:46 AM

Honestly.

Honestly I can't remember how I ended up in here, but I sure am happy that I got here. I think maybe it was something that I read on the UE foruma while ago that pushed me in this direction. I really love the UE gear, but when you begin to realize that the stocks were not going to improve in his store things got a little bit boring for me. This place is always exciting for one reason or another, and I learn new stuff just about every day. And I am in here just about every single day, because I feel like I am going to miss out on something if I miss a day. The RCM store is always full of cool stuff and he is coming up with new gear all the time in support of our addiction. What more can any of us ask for in a forum/store/support center??? Life is good.

Oh and I forgot to say that the owner MonsterMike is not a groutchy old man who gives his customers a hard time because of his own misfortunes. Mike is great to all of us.

pinkpanda3310 01.24.2009 09:01 AM

Hey I was curious to know what you guys thought of the smartech titan/carson devil. Yes, apart from being poor quality, but it's 4wd and it has good balance. Once fitted with all the right running gear I hear it's a good truck.

Takedown 01.24.2009 12:19 PM

I never got how the rims on the FG baja held up so well. They look so flimsy.

Ryu James 01.24.2009 01:38 PM

dude,
i have though that same thing about those FG baja rims. what size is the hex? they just look tiny. i like the looks of the Redcat Rampage beadlocks the best out of all the 1/5 wheels. does anyone know if the wheels hex/hubs can be switched out among the different 1/5 buggies/trucks?

monsterbaja,
so do you have that exact FG with the disc brakes and everything? how long have you had it? have you tried any other 1/5 kits. i found a smartech boxer 1/5 truggy that is pretty sick. i know smartech is like the cheap version of 1/5 but they are the only ones that make a truggy and that is what i want. it looks sick. MTs have too high CG and the FG baja has belt drive so the truggy has the most of what i am looking for. i am hoping to place the order for it this week. but i wont be doing the build for a couple of months. it will take me that long just to get the motor. i am wanting to order a Neu 2230 1y but it is 4.7 inches long. is that too wide to fit in the chassis? can you measure your baja chassis and see if there would be any way to fit a 4.7" motor? this is my preference but i may just need to go with the 2215 2y which is 3.3" long.

does anyone know if this ESC would work for a 1/5 conversion on 10s (2x 5s)?

http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...hv_series.html

or would a MGM be better?

what kind of controller are you using monsterbaja?

monsterbaja 01.24.2009 02:06 PM

Yes , it is the exact same car,i just mounted some other rims.
First, i don`t think you should worry about the belt,i have driven mine for about 4mnd.and i have never had problems with it,i have never heard about any other having problem with the belt.
As for the ESC . i am using a HYPERION TITAN 85/110A 12s.it is a little small, but it will do for now.
I will get back to you with the measure,(but i do now that a Lehner 3040 fits ok.)
The motor can not be to long, but it can be to wide, because of the belt.

Ryu James 01.24.2009 02:16 PM

the 2230 Neu is 4.7" long x 2.5" wide and 48 ounces
the 2215 is 3.3" x 2.5" and 25 ounces
pretty beefy motors.
i was considering the 1527 1y which is 4" x 1.7" wide and is 21.8 ounces but i have been told that it might be a little small for the heavy weight of 1/5 trucks. i just know the torque from the 2200 series will be insane and throw the thing around like a rag doll. i would love to see that 48 ounce 2230 1y snap the driveline like a twig. lol.

thats good to know that the belt drive has held up well. is it completely enclosed?

monsterbaja 01.24.2009 02:37 PM

The problem lies her.
http://www.hpibajaforum.com/forum/pi...pictureid=2615
This motor is only 50mm wide.(it is only 10 mm from the diff.)
But you can consider a Lehner 3060.that is a wild motor, and it will tear you baja apart. It is 60 mm wide and 100 mm long.
But i also think that the neu 2215 770kv will be more than enough to tear the car apart.:intello:

monsterbaja 01.24.2009 03:33 PM

A littel teaser.

mohanjude 01.24.2009 03:38 PM

What an excllent looking Baja. Really like the moutns. Is the motor upto the job? I have converted to FG large scale vehicles. The FG monster truck was the most fun but is 2WD. I cannot afford the 4WD version at the moment as it is nearly $4000.

I even considered the Kamitro conversion which is an aftermarket conversion belt driven but it will not be suitbale to mount a brushless conversion.

Mohan

monsterbaja 01.24.2009 04:07 PM

Thanks mohanjude.I am very excited on the motor,i will not break any speed record, but with 37v it will do the job.

monsterbaja 01.26.2009 04:54 PM

suicideneil 02.03.2009 01:46 PM

Sweet. You just know that motor has got some power behind it due to the tone/pitch...

monsterbaja 02.04.2009 01:42 PM

My ESC,just went up in flames
So i have ordered myself a Phoenix Hv 110
Now i am 2 weeks behind.
