Ultramaxx Tranny'

They claim to be "rare". Are they any good? If they are can't see why they have stopped been produced.

Worth getting one if possible?

captain harlock 12.18.2005 04:57 PM

Dont ask me. I'm just starting my own M.truck project and papa's truck made my poor soul feel despaired. I think I should wait a bit longer befor I get myself a monster maxx.

They are rare and are very nice. However they are heavy. I know there are a few people here that have them and have not installed them. Most get them aand then sell them like I did.

captain harlock 12.18.2005 06:12 PM

Ah, those are the ones used by Promod in one of his trucks with the Hacker 12XL. That was quite a while ago.

Nick 12.18.2005 06:24 PM

What would be an alternative for the main gear?

captain harlock 12.18.2005 06:27 PM

Most people including Mike did not change the main gear.

Nick 12.18.2005 06:31 PM

I'll pass then, thanks alot guys.

captain harlock 12.18.2005 06:34 PM

Anytime, Nick.

if you have a powerfull truck, you will need those gears. i have the first gen. and bought two sets of the 3rd gen, and sold them.

RC-Monster Mike 01.01.2006 03:33 PM

The UM gears are nice, but HEAVY as Papa mentioned. A single speed tranny with a steel idler gear will handle almost anything you can throw at it with less weight and a lot less rotating mass than the UM gear set. I have run up to 6s Lipo(lot of power!) with the single speed and stock lower gear and haven't had a hint of trouble. IMO, they are not necessary at all.

Sylvester 01.01.2006 03:41 PM

Unless you run 2 2240 lehner motors on 40v :p I dont think anyones crazy enough to do that.

captain harlock 01.01.2006 03:44 PM

I'm crazy enough to use two 3080/10 motors and 120 volts. However, it neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds money.:D

Sylvester 01.01.2006 03:49 PM

now that is messed up, 120V! Thats gonna be a lot of batteries!

captain harlock 01.01.2006 03:51 PM

Then why they invented lipos?;)

Sylvester 01.01.2006 03:58 PM

Yeah, but even 120V worth of lipos is a bit of batteries.....

captain harlock 01.01.2006 04:10 PM

I agree. Even with the UltraMaxx gearset I dont think the tranny will stand the power of a kilo and a half weighed motor. Not to mention that two motors are supposed to be used. With such a setup the maxx will be in the mid 100 mph easily and even more.

Sylvester 01.01.2006 04:39 PM

And good luck trying to control it! Even in the 50mph range is quick, 100? Bye bye truck, i dont think there would be enough room to even top out!

captain harlock 01.01.2006 10:10 PM

Nay. Guess I'll forget about speed runs from now on. I'll only make my ultimate speed run with my Evo lV and that's it, no more speed runs....well, not really.

Im good friends with Microwebtech (aka..Dan) the person behind the making og the Ultramaxxed gear set. And he told me just recently that the Gen III gear sets are out of production and no longer will be made by him..due to cost and the shop that made them for him is closing it's doors. I actually have a set of Gen II gears( that I'm running in my emaxx still) with no problems to date, but I also have a set of gen III just in case they fail. So I'm holding onto these. They might be overkill but atleast I don't have to worry about hte tranny failing (just my .02 worth) any ways some say they are worth it others say they are not....personal preferance I guess.....but if you run across a set...they probably will be worth some money due to out of production....
