Help!!!!!!!

Plugged my Neu motor into my MMM and pulled the trigger and the motor just kind of stuttered. I thought that I might have blown that Neu up or that something was wrong with it. So I plugged another Neu motor in and the same thing happened. What could be the probelm? The motor is not mounted. It is sitting loose so no bidding issues.

Check your motor wire connections. That sounds like only two phases are firing...

AP Alex 01.25.2009 09:35 PM

Check the wires going into the esc or motor?

What's_nitro? 01.25.2009 09:40 PM

Just check ALL of the connections. Did you program the MMM yet? Make sure it's not in "brushed" mode. :oh: :oh:

AP Alex 01.25.2009 09:47 PM

Programmed the MMM for brushless, low timing, 50% brake, custom 12.4 lipo cut-off, 0% drag, adn so on. Checked all connections. Mike soldered all the MMM wires for me. Tried it again and the motor just stutters and churps. JR Pro radio and 310 receiver. I have never had this happen before in 7 + builds.

Should I try another MMM I have several for my other builds?

What's_nitro? 01.25.2009 09:49 PM

I'd say it's a "dying" MMM then. You could try reinstalling the firmware.

Yeah. Good idea. I'm pretty sure that's the problem since you already tried another motor...

Arct1k 01.25.2009 09:54 PM

Check that two phases are not shorting across the heatsink...

AP Alex 01.25.2009 10:42 PM

Now, I'm really confused. I've tried a new out of the box esc, new firmware and all the correct settings, and got the same thing. Tried a new receiver and the same thing happened the only constant is the wires running from the esc to the motor. Nothing is touching as all solder joint have heatshrink over them and the connectors. Could the wire be bad? Where do I go next?

What's_nitro? 01.25.2009 11:03 PM

You're cursed.....

I still need help!!!!!!!!!

Common on people; help me out. Has any one heard of having bad bullet connectors? Or could the noodle wire be bad? It looks fine. I'm at a lose for what to do next.

Arct1k 01.26.2009 09:03 AM

I would resolder the bullets - Do they fit snuggly in the sockets?

Failing that if it doesn't work with 2 motors I think you might have to send the MMM back.

AP Alex 01.26.2009 09:41 AM

I tried another brand new version 3 MMM and had the same problem. Unless someone comes up with something different to try. I will resolder the wires leading form the esc to the motor. That the only thing that has stayed constant. I have changed all the other variables. Receiver, ESC, motor. That is all that is left.

Arct1k 01.26.2009 09:57 AM

Sounds like you've found the issue...

AP Alex 01.26.2009 10:17 AM

My father is an old electrician and said it could be a cold soldier joint. He has a meter that I can check it with. I will beat this thing. I will post pics of the project when I'm finished.

What's_nitro? 01.26.2009 01:11 PM

I'm sorry for being vague, but when I said check ALL the connections I thought solder joints were included... I hope it's that simple!

Hardstyle 01.26.2009 01:34 PM

This is kinda far-fetched but try twisting the wires at the sametime when running the system. I had similar problem with my bk controller. Found that parallel wire were badly soldered. It just cutted the powers when twisting at the right place..

Most likely a meter will not show a bad solder joint unless it is REALLY bad. Any resistance you see will probably be just the meter leads. Resistances that low are better measured with a conductance meter TBH.

Check the bullets, i got i cold solder joint in my mmm package NIB.

AP Alex 01.26.2009 03:57 PM

How did you catch the problem? Were you having similar issues?

Thanks,
Alex

Arct1k 01.26.2009 04:18 PM

Apply some "force" to the bullets and wire - should not crack/break...

Now within about 20 mins patricks going to be asking to QA stickers to bust someones balls... :)

t-mange 01.26.2009 04:48 PM

Na, i plugged all the wires in to the MMM, and then I was going to yank them all out off the mamba(for a photo) when the wire came out, but the bullet didnīt:tongue:, so i resoldered them all, just to be safe.

It never made it to the buggy before this, but i have had a friend with the same problem you described, so I resoldered all off his connectors between the ESC and motor and the problem was gone. So itīs definitely a case off only 2 out off three phases fireing.

AP Alex 01.26.2009 06:34 PM

I just home from school and dad meet me at the house with his meter and sure enough one of the wires would not carry a tone across. Resoldered that wire and everything worked like a champ. The just got home from school sounds funny. I'm the assistant principal of a local high school.

Thanks
Alex

BrianG 01.26.2009 06:39 PM

Did the meter show any resistance? Just curious.

AP Alex 01.26.2009 09:08 PM

The setting that gave the tone read .011 for all the other wires and read .014 for this wire when I fixed it. He had another setting that he turned it to and all the good wires read 0 and this will still had some readin, but I did not pay attention to what. It was some sort of 70 series meter. He was an electrician/telephone man. The meter was used by him when he was a telephone repair man/ equipment installer. I'm sorry I did not pay closer attention. I was just happry I was not out a lot of money.

BL_RV0 01.26.2009 09:37 PM

Congratulations on fixing your issue.
