My E-jato

Well I decided to convert my jato over to Electric.. I think it turned out good, I have been running it like this for a while on 2s/3s.. It is locked into 2nd running MM with a Medusa 36-50-4800kv Its a pretty sweet setup..

Heres a picture with the stock slash tires.. They work rather good on the Jato compared to the Slash..

Also heres a video of the slash/E-jato.. Its mostly E-jato.. just get through the first 2 minutes or so..

Nice! How do you like the power of the medusa on 3s? How does it compare to the mamba on 3s?

Wild YFZ 450 02.18.2009 09:35 PM

Doesn't even compare...:na::na:

RUSTY XL-5 02.18.2009 09:47 PM

lol I'm ordering a 4800kv 50mm medusa in just a few weeks....I already have my 30c lipos. :na::na:

+1!!! On the CRT.5, I tried a MM 4600 setup on 2s and it always had heat trouble, even geared really low (46/12). I put in a 36-50-3300 on 3s and it is amazing how much more power/torque it has geared higher and stays cool.

On the Slash, I tried a 5700 setup on 10 NiMH cells. That too did not come even close to comparing to a Medusa 36-50-2200 on 4s.

Wild YFZ 450 02.19.2009 11:02 PM

Should be fun.. Hope you get it soon

Metallover 02.19.2009 11:22 PM

Hey 450, How do you like that 2s hard case flightmax pack? I am thinking about getting one...

Wild YFZ 450 02.19.2009 11:25 PM

I had 2 of them for my e-savage to run in a series.. but then one of them died.. I wouldn't get them.. There no warranty packs pretty much...

Wild YFZ 450 02.21.2009 01:05 AM

Well I am trying to get to 100mph with my jato.. That is my goal.. I have the gearing and all to make it.. I just need to get that all to the ground.. On paper it should be more than enough.. I need to find a good body for this thing.. any reccomendations?

Nice setup. What did you do to get the slash rims to work on the fronts. They are a nice tire for a setup that's closer to the ground. I run them on my LS10 and they work great. Got a set from the slayer that I was going to run on the Jato also with some 14mm hub adapters for the rear but still need to figure out the fronts. Don't really want to convert to a rustler/stampede front end due to the already $$ spent on Jato rims and 17mm adapters that would then be useless.

azjc 02.21.2009 05:54 AM

the tire/wheel combo will be your problem for your goal of 100mph....I would try to use more of a street tire

All I did was put a Spacer.. Then a 14mm Hex and slid them on.. Works rather good and spin free with little to no play.. I can take a picture for you..As you can see from the video the handle very well and bite very well..

I actually am planning on using 1/8 buggy foams on on-roads.. Any suggestions for tires? Or even a good body.. Im thinking of using a 1/10 touring body or soemthing really flat.. not sure what yet though..

Wild YFZ 450 02.22.2009 10:11 PM

Well I decided to do a bit of an update on the Jato and decided not to go for the 100mph.. I had everything fine but the MM ran soo hot it melted the Positive lead off of the board...So I decided to just turn it into a all out fun basher.. Going to get 1/8 buggy tires and a 4s lipo for it and my slash...Along with my 3s..Also took the wing and the wheelie bar off of my E-savage (since im not running it anymore ESC & Motor in slash ) and put it ion the jato.. I also plan on getting some longer shocks for the E-jato... Might use the slash shocks.. Should be good.

azjc 02.22.2009 10:24 PM

to combat the MM running hot you can disable the onboard BEC and run an external BEC/Rx pack I did this with my upgraded VXL Rustler I have running a Feigao 9L with 4s lipo

Wild YFZ 450 02.22.2009 10:34 PM

Idk If you can tell but in all the Pics there is a BEC right next to the MM its right on the case.. It was just the crazy stupid gearing.. And the starting power I was and other settings where crazy.. 47t/76t gearing huge tires and a small ratio in the Tranny.. Locked in 2nd..

azjc 02.22.2009 10:51 PM

I didnt see it before, I see it now....remember for the ESC to run cooler you need to disconnect the red wire from the wire connection from the ESC to Rx...just a reminder....I run my Rustler with Mod 1 gearing using a Revo 40 tooth spur and a 16 tooth pinion and it runs pretty warm but within limits.....I got my best reults using solid foam 1/8 scale on road wheel/tire combo...heres a link

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKKF5&P=0

Wild YFZ 450 02.22.2009 11:01 PM

Yes I did remove it, You where running 16/40 = 2.5 ratio.. I was running a 47/76= 1.61
Not to count my Internal ratios are alot higher..I might pick up a set of those tires.. But I Will probably be getting Badlands on Buggy tires and throw them on for Bashing.. Just trying to have fun with it..

Wild YFZ 450 02.28.2009 07:33 PM

Here is the Updated Jato, I got the Vantage chassis had to change everything around.. The weight balance isn't that bad but its still not perfect.. This thing is stupid it destroyed my tires.. I also got my Big bores for my Slash Finally. Had to order another set because the first ones never showed up.

Looks like you might need some new tires lol!

Metallover 03.14.2009 03:29 PM

This makes me wanna get a jato. I like how you placed your battery.

Wild YFZ 450 03.14.2009 03:51 PM

Yea I got buggy tires on it now, That was basically the only spot I could even put the battery, It wouldn't fit length wise and it fits perfect in that spot. Yes it is a BIT off balance but it isn't to bad...

Takedown 03.15.2009 08:32 PM

Lookin good. Hows the rascal been lately, or did you sell it?

Wild YFZ 450 03.16.2009 02:36 PM

I still have it stripped the spur, Can't find a replacement its just sitting there as a roller:lol:

truggyracer1 03.21.2009 08:31 PM

nice conversion! i got a converted jato roller i didnt get the pinion with it any suggestions? i was told a 22 t pinion is what i would need it has the stock spur??? help? also planning on using the 4800 medusa hobbywing 60 or 80 amp esc and zippy 5000mah 2s 7.4's this a good combo?

Wild YFZ 450 03.21.2009 08:38 PM

All depends on what tires and what the tranny is in.. Mine is locked into second gear.... Also I am using buggy tires.. With stock like 2.2 or 2.8 tires.. I would say anywhere from a 20-25, but it depends on everything else.. Also if your only running a 2s lipo you can gear a lot higher.. But I wouldn't run it on 2s bit to slow.. I would at least run on 3s or even 4s.. good look and post some pics here if ya can

truggyracer1 03.21.2009 08:57 PM

not a pretty conversion yet gonna make it look nicer as far as locked into second not sure yet wil find out soon enough! could go 5000 mah 3s 11.1 lipo? going to run some 2.2's will post pics soon

Wild YFZ 450 03.21.2009 09:00 PM

Yea I had a guide on how to lock the Jato into second I will post it up if you want me to.. I think a 3s 5000mah lipo will be perfect
If you lock it into 2nd and run some 2.2s you can gear it pretty high some where around a 2.5-3 ratio

truggyracer1 03.21.2009 09:12 PM

you can post it if you'd like that would be cool! thanks! right now the motor mount is just a piece of aluminum stock mounted to the tranny case might use the revo mount instead and relocate the battery pack?? pinion size should be 20 to 25 still with 2.2's? thanks again for the help new to E conversions

Wild YFZ 450 03.21.2009 09:21 PM

Yea thats what it should be with the tranny locked into second..Heres the guide
Here it is.. How to lock a Jato Transmission into 2nd gear.. I will be showing the "Pin method" There is a few others though..
First step is take apart the transmission and the "Centrifical clutch piece..Should look like this
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed002.jpg
Next you can drill 1 or 2 holes for the Pins..Make sure you go far out enough so it doesn't get in the way of the Bearing and so the gear is the thickest on the outside.. Just make sure you don't drill through it.. You can even use the bearing as a guidelin..You can drill either one or 2 I used only 1 since I am using 1/8 wheel pins..It should fit snug...
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed003.jpg
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed005.jpg
Then put the gears back in. Remember you can Take out the first gear so it will be less rotating mass.. Just make sure you keep the one way bearing in there as the spacer...
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed007.jpg
then slap it all together..
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed008.jpg
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed009.jpg
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed010.jpg
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed012.jpg
Throw in you battery[&:] ( or fill your tanks[:)] ) and have fun driving..
http://i510.photobucket.com/albums/s...ndspeed013.jpg

truggyracer1 03.21.2009 09:36 PM

thanks i'm hoping its done already!

Z-Fire 03.22.2009 07:11 AM

I just converted my Jato. I put the single speed in it. Does anyone know the ratio of that?

Wild YFZ 450 03.22.2009 01:54 PM

Look it up or use Brian G's speed calculator andit will have the ratios preset.

BrianG 03.22.2009 02:24 PM

Welcome to the forums Z-Fire. FYI: The ratio is 2.0667:1. And the calculator Wild is talking about is here.
