Batteries stackable?

Hello all.
I am going dual brushless with my E-Maxx and I am going to get the carbon fiber G-Maxx chassis. I will be running 28cells. My question is, will the G-Maxx chassis hold all 28cells, 14 on each side stacked on top of eachother? Clearance is my main concern.
Thanks
John

HotnCold 02.24.2005 07:12 AM

stackable

I dont believe that is going to work - i think that you might not have the clearance on the servo side - unless you come up with a unique way of mounting the cells. I'v never seen it done with 28 before - Man that thing is gonna rip....

RC-Monster Mike 02.24.2005 07:17 AM

The G-maxx chassis will hold up to 15 cells per side if properly stacked and everything will clear. It will be a tank (very FAAAAST tank)with all those cells, but it can be done.

One more thing - Welcome to the forum!

HotnCold 02.24.2005 08:30 AM

batts

goes to show ya what i know about stacking that many batteries

rc4x4nut 02.24.2005 10:37 AM

Welcome to the forums. I tried stacking 13 cells just to see how they fit and it was no problem. What motor are you going to use on with 28 cells?

Megazone23 02.24.2005 11:58 AM

<snip> never mind :D

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 02.25.2005 01:12 AM

Thanks everyone for your help.
I will be using a dual feigao 9L set-up with the warrior controllers.
Just waitig to get them in the mail and I'm sure I will have lots more questions for you guys through out the installation process.
I will post some pics when it is complete.
John

isnt 28 cells alot? well good luck with the motor and controller

HotnCold 02.27.2005 07:16 PM

pics -

yea - get some nice pics before you run it - And be careful - dual bl is AWESOME power. I know someone who tried it for a hot sec and snapped the rear shocktower ( aluminum ) in half. Needless to say it was too much power and back to one motor for him. Now if i could only remember who it was...... Hmmmm...... :D

RC-Monster Mike 02.27.2005 07:59 PM

Yeah, dual brushless is not necessary for most. The broken aluminum shock tower was from an insane rolling wheelie (actually, the truck leapt off the ground and landed on the Supermaxx rear tower with enough force to snap it clean in half).

HotnCold 02.27.2005 09:31 PM

I wasnt gonna say who did it - he he he he

Sylvester 02.27.2005 09:35 PM

LOL thats insane

Superemaxx89 02.27.2005 11:07 PM

i noticed a semi unfair comparison of single bl vs. duel bl....number of cells!!

People are always saying that their duel is way more powerful than a single. But you basically comparing a 24 celled duel bl emaxx to a 12-16 celled single bl. I mean it's only so obvious that you would get more torque and speed...not because you have two motors, but because you have twice the amount of cells! From what i have read here and at maxxtraxx, a single BL on 12 cells vs. a duel BL on 12 cells the single BL will come out on top due to efficiency. This knowledge mostly came from hiamplidude

RC-Monster Mike 02.27.2005 11:32 PM

True. I always recommend a single system. The efficiency is a reason, along with the weight and ability to troubleshoot a problem. In a single system, if something goes wrong, it doesn't work. Pretty easy to diagnose! In a dual system, if one system is working and the other is not (you might not notice), you will most likely blow the controller that isn't working (and it could be a simple connection causing it not to work, but it will likely be overloaded with the power reversing throught the tranny, as a brushless motor acts like a generator).

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 02.28.2005 03:09 AM

Yah, dual BL is no doubt overkill. I am doing it for a few reasons. First and foremost is a little thing called sibling rivalry. My brother has a brushless Mini-T that was clocked @ 48mph with a radar gun. Really the only way for me to get around him is to run him over.....he doesnt like that.
So, a single BL would only leave me with what, say, 40-45mph? I know that a dual set-up is not going to be much faster than that but, hopefuly a tick or two faster than he is going. If not then....Ill run him over again.

Superemaxx89 02.28.2005 04:05 AM

duel on 28 cells should get u in the low 50's

single on 28 should get u in the high 50s and low 60s on a light truck

correct me if im wrong though:)

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 02.28.2005 07:17 AM

I am no expert but, I believe there is no single motor that can handle 28cells. A single 9L can handle up to 14cells. Since I will be running 2 of them, there will be 28cells total.

RC-Monster Mike 02.28.2005 07:22 AM

There are motors that can handle the cell counts you are speaking of. Of course, you don't need 28 cells to go 50mph either (it has been done on 12 cells and a single brushless). LiPo technology makes it that much easier (weight savings+voltage). You should be able to get over 50mph with a single 9L. Now I guess you have to build another e-maxx!

Sylvester 02.28.2005 08:54 AM

i never knew you ciould go 50mph just on 1 9l?

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 02.28.2005 03:10 PM

I almost went the LiPo route and a single BL but, I have too many dang battery chargers and batteries, I didnt want to start over. So I figured hey, there is another spot for another motor so, why not put one there.
My E-Maxx is more of a streetqueen/show-piece than an off-roader, Ive got my T-Maxx for that. :)

Sylvester 02.28.2005 05:27 PM

i see.

RC-Monster Mike 02.28.2005 06:06 PM

Make sure we get some pictures! :)

Sylvester 02.28.2005 06:17 PM

yes, please . :)

Superemaxx89 02.28.2005 07:36 PM

mike, what do you think a 33.6 volt (equivalent to 28 NIMH) lipo powered single BL go?

RC-Monster Mike 02.28.2005 08:00 PM

How fast do you want to go!? This would be pretty rediculous to say the least.

RC-Monster Mike 02.28.2005 08:01 PM

Promod and Lipomaxx have both played with similar voltages. I know promod has been over 70 mph in an e-maxx!

Sylvester 02.28.2005 08:07 PM

70mph, if only i saw a videoclip of one of those babies.

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 03.01.2005 02:49 AM

Mike,
Got the CF chassis in today. Thanks! That is some fast shipping.
It looks awsume. Going to go and put it together right after this.
Now just wating for the motors which should be here within the next week or so.

Chase023 03.01.2005 05:18 AM

Congrats on the CF G-Maxx Purchase..You won't be disappointed.

Anyhow..Some of those XL motors from Feiago, Hacker and the 22 series and the 28 series of the Lehner Motors can handle 28+ cells. My favorite is the Plettenberg Bolido 24-30 Cells for 1:5 scale cars.
