Feigao 9L question

i have a Feigao 9L with the rcm heatsink clamp....can i run this in my genesis conv? too small? im gonna push it with a mamba monster and two 5ks...

brushlessboy16 03.04.2009 06:26 PM

Thats wayy to small for a genesis..

an xl geared low might not be enough...

Look into a Kb45.. your gonna need alot of torque for that thing

BrianG 03.04.2009 06:37 PM

^ +1. You definitely need a bigger motor. The only way an L motor would work is if the vehicle was geared to go ~10mph.

xleonex 03.04.2009 07:28 PM

what motor do you guys think will work? i want good tourque and speed

azjc 03.04.2009 07:29 PM

I wouldnt put a Feigao "L" series motor in anything bigger than a 1/10 scale 2WD truck ( Rustler)

brushlessboy16 03.04.2009 08:07 PM

Try a medusa 36-70 or 80.other option is the kb45

gearing .......mount ect.. any ideas? it is really built now hardened diffs reverse removed...gst tranny. im looking to go faster then it was stock

xleonex 03.04.2009 09:13 PM

what of battery holders are you guys using?

azjc 03.04.2009 09:35 PM

you might have to fabricate some battery holders yourself, I dont know of any conversion kits for a Genesis, I have done some off the wall things myself...IMO half the fun is biulding and modifying

80mm medusa or 1521 Neu, your gonna need a low kv (1600 ish) and atleast 6s to push that big rig very well....

xleonex 03.04.2009 10:40 PM

why such a low kv? i thought the higher the kv the fast and more torque

Metallover 03.04.2009 11:10 PM

You might want to consider an outrunner.

It's true that a high kv is technically faster, but it also pulls more current due to the lower wind count, High currents are inefficient, create more heat, and is harder on all your components.

Wheel torque is a function of motor kv, current draw, and gearing. You generally figure out the voltage you plan to run first (go as high as your ESC will go), then get a motor kv that will put total rpms around 35-40k. Then gear accordingly. Most people shoot for ~35-40mph. If you want higher than that in a heavy vehicle, plan to spend the bucks for a larger motor and better batteries.

what about the new 580l long that huge fiego?

Metallover 03.05.2009 09:12 AM

That motor still doesn't have as much power as the kb. It costs over twice as much too. People have use the kb motor sucessfully but I don't know how the fiegao will work.

You will want a lower kv one for your cen. Probably 1600 or more likely the 1200 on 6s lipo.

On something large like this, just about any drop in efficiency results in a lot of wasted heat. For example, let's say you have a setup that draws 350w average with 2000w peaks:

A 75% efficient motor will eat up 87.5w cont, and 500w peak power.
An 85% efficient motor will eat up 52.5w cont and 300w peak power.

That lost power is less power being put to the ground, lots of added motor heat.

I'd say just pony up for a more suitable motor. A Neu 1515, Castle 1800 (not out yet), or a Medusa 36-80-2000 on 6s would be better choices.
