a MMM v3 that WORKS
since no one seems to post how WELL their MMM's go, it's always MMM caught fire or MMM up in smoke.
here's one of the good ones:yipi: phil my friend (i set him up, he races while i'm stuck on cash probs..so i run the noisy smoker revo) he's running a MMM v3 early model (bullets on battery side) with a medusa 2000kv 70mm motor in a revo platnium 3905 conversion. geared 12/65 running 6s 5000mah zippy-H 20-30c batts. under race condition... motor NEVER goes past 130*f ESC never has even used the fan...EVER (only on startup) runs pretty slow but that's fine for race conditions. his punch and brake curves are pretty tamed down. going very well. on the other hand, another guy with a mugen MBX5 buggy. running a sippy 20c 4s pack on the 2200kv combo. geared for 50mph runs resonably cool. but has settings turned right up, this resulted in the regenerative voltage to spike to 40+ volts, thus killing the MMMv3:cry: so the moral of the story is... if u wanna use cheap packs, crank up the voltage, turn down the settings and gear down. if u wanna go nuts, get the best packs u can find and then u can probably crank the settings up a bit keeping heat in check:wink::yipi: shaun |
Cool! It's good to read people's success stories with the Monster for a change. Glad to hear it's working well for you.
I'd also like to mention my MMM. It's a V1 with 1.20 firmware and a V3 case, and only has about 6 or 7 runs on it since I started running it last week...but it's been perfect. The truck it's in has had some hideous crashes and it's been bounced, cartwheeled, flipped...and never skipped a beat. The fan still works fine, and even the standard switch is still working. I couldn't be happier with it. Plus, the case doesn't show any signs of coming apart. I'm running it in a Havoc on 35C 5000mah 5S Elite LiPos, and a Castle/Neu 2200. Motor's not getting above 120F at most, and I haven't even bothered temping the ESC. Love it. I couldn't agree more that GOOD cells will make for a happy MMM. |
My V2 survived for 4 month (about 10 runs ) before it died. Actually it has died twice before, both were cured by myself, replacing the switch and fan. This time is different, it has gone. This is much better than my first V2 though, which worked for just 2 minutes and gone.
Wish me a good luck for the coming V3. |
Well hell I have a MMMv2 and MMMv3 and they both work great.

From the eagletree results I've seen from my Zippy, it does not perform like a "cheap pack" to me. Kicking out 150A and dropping only ~2v seems to be pretty good performance in my book. |
+1 on the zippy's....I run both my rc8t and sc8 on zippy's and have had ( at one point) 5 MMMs (V1x2, V2, V3x2) and I've only had my first v1 and just recently my V2 have bec deaths...and all runs are under track conditions .....my other ones wrk justfine on my zippy's :)
|
i'm not bashing zippys..
love em!! just dont treat them lika neu pack:lol: |
my v3 works great after 1 race day! with the cheap old zippy! ill crank it up to, voltage ripple my a**!
|
I have V1, V2 and V3 MMM ESC's that have all been running flawlessly for months. I can't really complain. :yipi:
|
Zippys are POS compared to proper cells. You claim 2v at 150A? per cell maybe.
I have 3 MMMv2 still running hardcore, all run on 6s lipo (zippy cells haha, I wish I could afford good cells) |
i have had a few v2's and v3's fail but the current v3 is running strong (on the chassis) and has been for 3-4 race weekends. strong enough for me to TQ and wind sportsman 1/8 at hotrod two weekends in a row.
|
Have had nothing but great luck with the MMM, aside from a V2 failure (but I bought it knowing this would happen).
Right now I have 2 MMM V3 and a MMM V1 which was part of the first batch. This V1 is still running the internal BEC with NO case modifications, but no fan. |
Two MMM v3s going strong here, plenty of packs through them. If ten guys complain of failures it does seem like a lot, but really that is only .08% failure out of the 12k units sold off. Gotta have perspective that a few failures posted online are not that many in relation to how many are actually out there. Even if it does fail, you can bet Castle is there to back you up and get you running again. I can't say so much for HW, can't even get an email back from them.

Have 3 mmm v3's.1 on 5S,1 on 4s,1 on 3s.Not one of them has had a failure .The 5s truggy has been bashed for 5 months HARD.Sorry for the few who have had problems though...
|
I have been running my V1 since it came out, twice a week at the track (about 4hrs of track time a week) on 4s and 5s and have had no issues at all except for the fan.
|
Now this thread I like to hear!
|
My 2 V3's are running great. I run 5S and 4S setups. I really like the 2200 on 5S setup. Unofficial bashing I recorded 98 degrees on the MMM 120ish motor in 70 degree temps. The 4S 7XL was 125 deg MMM, 136 deg motor for about the same length run. The 2200 setup is also geared for a bit more than the 7XL combo, about 47mph vs 42mph right now. I cant wait to try 6S, I cant imagine how low the temps will be.
|
if you increase your voltage to 6s you will need to gear down or run a lower kv motor in order to keep your temps the same or lower
|
Ya, I was going to gear down to keep the same speed. More volts and less amps, cant beat that.

yeah i thought this thread would bring some good publicity to MMM's:party: |
yeah praise the MMM lord Patrick and his tech cronies for ironing out the bugs. my MMM has been mothballed for quite some time. i have a dx3s on its way. area i bash in is now very noisy with lots of radio towers etc. i dragged the guy at work with a 7 port xray, i must say his car is nice. the minute he saw me blipping and darting around an 8 pound truck on the packed dirt, he was astounded how nimble it was. he killed me a few times on launching, but top end was a cake walk.i explained it how i had locked the car in 1 gear and he pulled the BS flag. he just couldnt understand so much torque. after i got my revo stop steering from the rear tyres due to the dirt i was taunting him. to him wheels stand at half throttle and beyond flew in the face of what he was used to. ever since having the MMM with the neu(thumbs up steve) i have received so many jaw dropping responses, this is always consistent with newbs who dont know. but seeing a truck of that size and weight throwing itself around is almost like seeing my grandma taking on a top fueller and winning....in her shop-rider:P just insane. good work guys.
oh and btw, before all you big brand battery guys go off on a tangent on how much better a certain cell is usually better than another...3 words... global supply chain. dont get me started.:P |
My MMM v3 has survived some 4s bashing with my 80mm MedUsa motor, still going strong. The other day I heard a sizzling noise coming from it, but I plugged it in earlier and it was gone  When my shoes finally dry out I'm going to go continue to beat the snot out of my Muggy, and I'm confident the MMM will continue to provide me with the power to do so.
