truggy conversion

does anyone know how to convert a revo platnium to a center diff,my club racing will not allow me to run in the electric truggy class untill i get a center diff or can i just lock it in 2 gear

Arct1k 03.27.2009 10:46 AM

Locking into second gear is pretty simple - If you search BrianG has an explanation.

A centre diff - well you can use the traxxas one - there are not many and not bolt on 1/8th scale centre diff kits / mounts for the revo.

brian2njoy 03.27.2009 11:09 AM

thanks for your help looking around i found the traxxas diff so ill get that thanks

We are here for you - please don't be discouraged - You have found the right place to answer the questions...

My error for not researching the platinum for you... Let me know if you need help with the locking or the CD.

brian2njoy 03.30.2009 10:01 AM

i have installed everything thanks for your help the only thing i dont understand is in the revo do i still need my servo for my brakse or will the mmm slow it down threw the esc like the slash does

Arct1k 03.30.2009 10:06 AM

You can go both ways on this - either keep the servo and run mechanical breaks or you can "lock" the trasnsmission and use the MMM to slow it down.

There are pros and cons with either choice.

brian2njoy 03.30.2009 10:15 AM

thanks and i plug the brake servo into the aux on my reciever? i have the dx3r

That will work and then you just need to setup the mixing on the radio... BrianG is the expert on this...

I'd set it up for locked into 2nd gear with just fixing the servo linkage but at some point you will want to remove all the 1st gear internals to reduce rotating mass.

*** Woops I was thinking of my conversion which uses a switching servo rather than the revo transmission which does the whole internal thingy...

Listen to linc he knows about trannies

This is not very clear Chris, I think you need to proofread. You cannot lock a revo in 1st or 2nd by adjusting a linkage. You may be thinking of the old emaxx 2 speed?

Anyway, to the OP: with brushless it is usually best to lock the tranny is 2nd gear, and then use motor brakes. You can only use motor brakes if you lock the tranny, as it has a one-way bearing in it. I would do the lock and remove all of the mechanical brake hardware.

Since it has a center diff you may want to put thicker fluid in it. This will help with braking, and also help with the front tires unloading from the increased power and punch that a brushless setup has over the nitro engine.

If any of this is not clear or you would like some addl info just reference this.

Welcome to the forums!!!

thanks for your help glad to see someone from la i have put 120k lock fluid in,i put the center diff in and i still need to lock in 2nd gear i thought the center diff changed all that but i still need to lock in 2nd gear because i want to get rid of the mechancal brakes and servo

Are you in LA? There are a few of us in the NOLA area...

Ditching the servo and mech brakes is a good idea. Did you find BrianG's info on locking the revo in 2nd? I think it is in the revo section, as a sticky.

The traxxas center diff just replaces the output shaft, you will still need to mod the 2nd gear spur to lock it up. Pretty easy to do, just filing some slots on the gear to put screws in.

brian2njoy 03.30.2009 11:23 AM

yea im in baton rouge i went to adrenaline hobbies in metarie cool ass dudes that know there stuff about revos but yea i see the sticky on locking second gear i habe to go get a clutch spring and some screw asn im gonna lock it tonite thanks for your help where do yall race at im always looking for something different

I am not really a racer... There is a track in Springfeild, Rc power hobbies is the name, if memory serves me correctly.

I have not been to adrenaline yet, went to hobby hut in metarie a while back. I am in Slidell, and we have a small poorly stock shop here... Not much going on.

I mainly bash, and have some good areas to play by my shop. A baseball field and a large open grassy area just a block down, plus alot of open blacktop parking lots and some very quiet streets.

madmaxx 03.30.2009 11:33 AM

you'll prolly find that 120k fluid is gonna be too thin for the cd, you might wanna try starting off with like 300k and see how you like it....

BUT if you are using the cd from your platinum you should be OK as platinum REVO's come from factory with 500k ;) cd's off the wall come with 100k which is like water! even with a stock, tuned 3.3 i was having bigtime unloading issues! now that i have the red dot i run OFNA clear diff lock, no unloading! :intello:

brian2njoy 03.30.2009 11:47 AM

thanks for your help so the stock center diff that comes with the platnium has 500k in it ,so i can lock my 2nd gear and thats it i dont have to use the mechanical brakes, thanks for your help not being a ass but on every forum people look for mistakes not help[

Ok, I crawl as well, just not comp worthy! I have a few buddies that run crawlers too. If we can ever get back into it I will let you know.
