jato to corr truck

i'm in despret need of a project:sleep:, so I picked this up:oops: after a few mock ups, I think I can convert it to use a slash body:yes:

the list:
*custom chassis: what alloy?? the exact phrasing that a metal wholesaler would understand.

*custom front axils, based off of the rustler/pede/slash ones, except shorter, again, what alloy?? I'm going to use the rear hubs from a slash as spindles.

*custom motor mount, I'm thinking of just cuting an e-maxx on up, but IDK

any ideas for a layout?? the chassis will be about an inch or 2 longer.

still debating on a power sorce, but I have a new tekin RX8 coming soon:cry: so mabey a novak HV motor?? cheap, and just big enough to get the job done.

I have access to a full metal shop, and best of all, I can get all the metal dirt cheap:yipi: its a tech-ed project

the bigest problem will be mounting the bumpers...

one minor problem, the front will still be 1/8-1/4in too wide overall after everything, any ideas?? I'll cut the body a bit before I run a set of hacked up rustler arms on it like they did on the trx forums :whip:

post your ideas and opinions:yes:

7075 is a higher grade and stiffer IIRC

A Castle 2650 motor would work, along with a medusa 60 or 70.. Rx8 might be a bit overkill for this truck. and you dont need that much power because you will have a hard time putting it down through CORR tires.

I just got back from the meeting, good news, its a run what ya brung class now:party::party::party: :bad::angel:

if anyone sees a novak 4.5/5.5HV for cheap, LMK

sooo, whats the best way to get power to the ground???

1/8 buggy tires, or ST tires?? Im thinking the sc10 wheels seem to be the right offset, after seeing one in person:great:

just outof curiosity, between an sc10 with a 540 motor, and a E-jato...

the tekin is the esc that I'm geting as a replacement for my rs:diablo:

its me 04.12.2009 01:36 AM

Ive experimented with jatos and to be honest I found the project not worth it, I either couldn't keep the trans together or I couldn't keep the tires glued...

I dont know if there's been recent improvements in then jato's trans but if there's not then I would say its not worth it.. The top shaft of the 2speed would always snap from the Rb 523

azjc 04.12.2009 01:44 AM

is there a way to use a VXL tranny? and if you are running in the street you could use 1/8th scale sedan foams for wheels they dont balloon or come off, the only negative with them is they lose traction in dusty conditions

asheck 04.12.2009 08:41 AM

HV motor. http://www.shopatron.com/product/par...21.26355.0.0.0 I did this a little different. I used the slash chassis, and Jato arms. http://pic20.picturetrail.com:80/VOL.../343260116.jpg I'm currently using a 4.5 in mine, awesome motor for this.

yes they are, yes they are....

I don't want it wider, I want the tires to still fit under the body...

the jato has a single speed conversion

truggyracer1 04.12.2009 01:32 PM

nice jato glad your able to do something with it sounds like you got some wicked plans for it!! got all the packing peanuts out of it yet?

still picking them out of the furniture...

whitrzac 04.15.2009 11:36 AM

should I have the battery lengthwise, or across the chassis?

MetalMan 04.15.2009 03:26 PM

Lengthwise, if you can. This will help keep the CG closer to the centerline of the chassis, which is best in terms of handling.

whitrzac 04.15.2009 03:55 PM

ok, 2 or 4s??? if its 4s, what motor under $100??

I do have a sidewinder 4600 combo that I sent in, do you think that would work well in this??

lincpimp 04.15.2009 04:05 PM

I just put my slash body on the stretched chassis jato i have. Wheelbase is off a bit, but the width is very close. You may get it just right if you can mount the slash rear rims all the way round. You would need to mod the front hubs, as the jato uses bearings in the wheels, and the slash wheels have 12mm hexes. You may be able to just use rustler vxl c hubs and knuckles with the jato arms. People put jato arms on rustler and pedes, so I am sure that they will fit. Sounds like a fun project. If my chassis was 1/2 shorter the wb would be perfect. I bet the axial br50 body would fit... That truck uses a truggy chassis so the body must be longer.

While I am at it... does anyone want to buy a stretched chassis jato roller?

I'm making my own chassis thats 2in longer than stock

I plan on running the SC10 wheels...

whitrzac 04.15.2009 08:22 PM

now that I have more time,
you shoulda seen the look on the tech ed teacher when I said I needed some 7075 alloy:lol:then falowed up with the "why not make it outa steel?":diablo:

but the chassis I'm makeing is 2in longer, won't have the cutouts/holes for the nitro stuff, and will be semetrical.

I think I may rip the novak trays off my 1/8 buggy, thats on hold because of $$, and run 2 2s batteries in parallel to get uber long runtimes or 4s when I want to fly:angel::oops:

any idea if a castle 4600 motor will work without too much heat issues untill I can get a novak HV, or a speed passion motor, or a tekin motor

does anyone have the 2 speed internals/brake kit for it?? it allready has the singal speed conversion, and no matter how useless it is, its still cool:oops:

any ideas on things I should add onto the chassis, or other custom parts I should make??

I see alot of people using an E-maxx motor plate, does it bolt right up or does it need alot of work??

whitrzac 04.17.2009 09:09 AM

just out of curiosity, how do you think it will fair against an sc10??

whitrzac 04.19.2009 10:20 PM

update: its a 2-speed!!:yipi: thanks to brian:great:

a 4x12ft sheet of 7075 t6 mill finish is on its way to the school ($150:surprised:) the welding lab said they would buy whatever I don't use, soo it looks like I'll need a few more ideas:lol::lol:

the plan is to buy a new top plate and keep the RX box, and servo mounts, but cut out the batt mount and mount a 5000mah 2s between them. the esc will go next to the RX box on the chassis.

any ideas on extending the body mounts?? or how to mount at least the front bumper?

williamg 04.20.2009 11:48 AM

ofna parts
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBZN1&P=7
and or

Is that a misprint? 4 feet by 12 feet?

Anyway, your parts will be shipped in about an hour during my lunch break.

yes, 4ftx12ft... costs $150... but I only have to buy what I use:rules:

I'm going to make a chassis for my 1/8 buggy and my slash while I'm at it

whitrzac 04.20.2009 07:57 PM

now, the question is, do I go with 1/8 buggy tires, or stay with 2.2 truck tires??

I have some of both...

any cheaper versions of these??
http://cgi.ebay.com/Traxxas-Jato-17M...QQcmdZViewItem

whitrzac 04.20.2009 10:32 PM

shoulda done some more reasarce before I bid, could had a BIN for $25...

ether way, still an awsome deal for good shocks:yipi::yipi:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...EOIBSA:US:1123

I'v got the front body mount on(slash mount), i think I'll have to order on of the ofna bony mounts for the rear...

I'll have a prototype chassis made out of steel tomarow:party:

whitrzac 04.22.2009 11:30 AM

the 7075 plate should be here thurs or fri:yipi::yipi:

I have a cupple unanswered questions...

any recommendations on a CHEAP motor for it?? I'm thinking a feigao just to get me by for awhile...(witch one???)

if not a feigao then will something like a CC 4600, or a novak 10.5(13mm rotor) be up to running this beast:lol: what I have...

whats the recommended wheel/tire?? 1/8 or 1/10?

what angle should I bend the sides of the chasis up? I know the more I go the stiffer it will get, but how stiff is too stiff...

since I'm making a custom motor mount, what distance should the motor shaft be from the top shaft on the tranny??

are there any slightly wider corr bodys that have the same wheelbase as the slash??

whitrzac 04.23.2009 09:52 AM

halfcab 04.23.2009 07:21 PM

the velineon traxxas motor should run quite a bit cooler and just begs for 3s to be a flyer:whip::whip:and a velineon should be a bunch cheaper, around $40 on the bay usually when I have looked, my cc 5700 and my 4600 get pretty hot in my slash, the velineon in a freinds slash runs an easy 20-30 deg cooler:whistle:, not sure if the gearing is lower in the jato or not but I would try the velineon over the cc motors for it:wink::yes:

whitrzac 04.23.2009 08:15 PM

well, I allready have a CC 4600 motor...
I might giv the 10.5/13mm a try though, it has the heatsink sleave on it

whitrzac 04.25.2009 05:40 PM

update: I'v got the e-maxx motor plate instaled, the brakes on, and the 2 speed trany in.

still waiting on the alloy to arive....:diablo:

for a motor, I bought a "hobbycity" brand 36-50 6s 5900kv for $20 shipped from a guy on RCU... I should fly:lol: I also have a 'hobbycity' 36-60 9l motor from the same guy on the way....

the front body posts are strait off the slash, and the rear will probably be just a single post from AE...

the brake servo will be right behind the motor, and the reciver will be in the stock location....

brushlessboy16 04.25.2009 06:13 PM

6s seems a bit weak for this truck.. Might wanna use the 9l

but then I have to run HUGE 30+ teeth pinions. I should be able to fit a 4s on it, but I think it will be too much wight...

whitrzac 04.27.2009 05:09 PM

:grrrrrr:still no metal:grrrrrr:

lincpimp 04.27.2009 05:55 PM

A 6s is a stout motor... I ran a 7s in a rustler way back and it could push that thing around easily. Plus it would pull over 100amps on 3s. Hope you have some good lipos... And a fan for the MM...

It pulled over 150 amps in my drag emaxx...

I'm using a 2s
IDK, but a tekin RX8 auta do the job:lol:

I have 1 esc between the maxx, and this....

whitrzac 04.28.2009 11:04 AM

well, aparently they can't get 7075, so they went and ordered some 3003(I think)....:grrrrrr::grrrrrr::grrrrrr::grrrrrr::grr rrrr::grrrrrr::grrrrrr::grrrrrr::grrrrrr::grrrrrr: :grrrrrr: apparently its the closest they could get

whitrzac 05.06.2009 08:10 AM

the 3003 alloy still hasn't come yet:grrrrrr::grrrrrr:

the 9l motor is going in the jato cus an RX8 combo is on its way to me for my maxx:yipi:
will this motor have enought power to turn preaty much any gearing on a 4s??

found some 1/8 buggy adapters for it they should give the right offset, but everyone is out of stock:diablo:

whitrzac 05.12.2009 01:46 PM

well, after 3 WEEKS the alloy has finally come in...

the chassis should be done tomorrow:party:

I decided you use a novak HV 4.5 instaid because of the 1/8 shaft, its should have enough power:oops:

whitrzac 06.16.2009 06:18 PM

I'v kinda given up on the whole "corr truck" thing, but here are some pics

(2) protek 4000 15c 2s lipos
Novak HV 4.5
towerpro mg955
spektrum
18/56 gearing
1/8 buggy adapters

first time out I nailed the throttle and craped my pants:oops: uber fast:yes:
spegetty wires anyone??
how bout those pretty pink zipties holding the batts in:lol::whistle:

EDIT: without those huge caps on my range is only 100-150ft:whip:

whitrzac 06.17.2009 12:23 AM

did I mention its fast??
