Ofna GTP build
I just picked up a new Ofna GTP and it is time to build. I am looking to run either a Medusa 36/70 2300Kv with the MMM or the 2200kv MMM combo. I am going for nitro enbarrising fast but with drivability. Let me know your suggestions.
the mmm 2200 combo on 5s should do the trick
cant beat the combo
Why not on 6? I have two 3S1P packs. Now all I have to do is get the the carbon fiber chassis, shock towers, stiffening plates and other pieces cut and I will be good to go. Throw in rear pillow balls to increase handling tuning, CVD's all around, and foams on all four corners...that should yield me one nice beastly monster of a racer.
I would do the MMM 2200 combo on 6s... literally; I have a GTP with RCM mount and Castle 2200 motor and some 6s batts, all I need is another ESC to get it going (could steal one from another rig I suppose). Still need to paint the body too.

Here is what I have so far.Its a freakin monster.I am running 3s with a Neu 1515.5y 4400kv.This car is only 9.5 lbs so it never overheats and its a blast to drive.Really fast and ya gotta run foam tires. The rubber tires arent balanced as well.Get the hardened steel ring gears for the front and rear diffs.Have fun:party::whip:
[threadjack] Phatmonk where did you get the .5y motor? [/threadjack]
Yeah, the stock tires are crap IMO. They balloon and the foam gets all bunched up in one spot. This happened on my GTP and the tires ended up ripping apart the fender area behind the rear set. It is a fun car to drive though, even on "only" 5s, and that's on a 1512 motor; I can't imagine the tire spin on a 1515 motor.

Throw a 1515/1y in there on 6s geared 20/51 and you'll see what I mean. |
Monk,
Where did you get the carbon chassis? I am thinking about cutting one myself, but if i can get on CNC'ed i would go that route. |

Finally got the beast out of the box and first impressions...weight loss...she got to lose some weight and I have to sure up the chassis. While I am waiting to get the cash to by a 12x24 sheet of 4.4mm CF, I took some 1/8 Cf and fashioned and front to center to rear brace. I also cut out the servo tray using the same CF. I mocked up the positions of the battery tray and motor mount. By the way the Tekno Motor mount is as sweet as they come. I don't inticipate any chassis flex. More to come....
Looking sweet man. Nice work on the CF pieces.
What are the options for beefing up the GTP's diffs?

More carbon fiber parts...

Sitting around with a little time on my hands, since I completed the CF top place and servo plate, I decided to take it a bit further and cut out the front and rear shock towers. These came out great considering the work was done using a hacksaw and an assortment of dremel bits. Here are the stock aluminum and the CF parts side by side and installed on the car.
Nice! What is the weight difference with all CF?
After the chassis is replaced, the weight reduction should be about 2 lbs.
Not bad at all! 2lbs on a ~8lb car (loaded) is a savings of 25%. Good job!
Looks awesome great job. Those small pieces are a bitch to get perfect. How thick are they?
Yes Monk they are. And you run the risk of wasting a lot of material. Carbon fiber ain't cheap.
Veryy Niiiceeee......

After an exhaustive search to locate a hobby shop that carries Ofna's DM-1 wheel, I finally found them. I go them installed with matching hud caps. The black on black look is beast. The black carbon chassis is next. Then I can focus on the powerplant and battery.
Lovin it blacked out like that. What's your powerplant going to be?
Mamba Monster 2200 on 6s.
Oh.... You're so unique!
I trust Castle...but I like Medusa also. No need to be different. Just want to be fast...and managable.
Wow nice job w/the cf and keep the updates coming...can't wait to see a vid! I so want one of these, but I need to sell a few that I am not using first!
Thanks...I am ordering the CF sheet for the chassis tomorrow. That will be the weekend project.
you should get a real neu or an hpi neu so it's black:yes:
I was thinking about giving Castle a call to see if I could get one in black. I plan on running over 50K and I hear that Neu's don't like those kinda rpms. I figure if they made the 2200 to run off 6s, that is what I am going to do. But I do have the Tekno Motor mount and i will be putting a fan on the motor so the green might not show that much.
neus will handle 50k, it's all about gearing and checking temps. You could always paint it black, speedassault did an awesome paintjob on his neu in the project x forum
Get the HPI motor
You can get a Traxxas CastleNeu they are black...
I looked for a Traxxax Castle motor but no one carries them by themselves. I am looking at the HPI 2200 now. I spoke with a Castle rep and he assured me it is their motor, not a knock off.
Check ebay for the trx motor
I am liking the HPI number. It is available and it looks pretty sweet.
