MBX5-T brushless, farewell maxx
1 Attachment(s)
My custom maxx is going to a friend. it was a tough decision as the truck got me into RC, but sice i started to race i have so many cars to take care of and not enough time tu run it. I probably tried everything there is to make my maxx completely bullet proof basher.
Attachment 6901 I am keeping all the electronics and it's going to my BCE MBX5-T as it is just too much work racing both nitro truggy and buggy. And buggies are more fun as there is much more competition. Since Tekin RX8 is still not available - want to use 1700kv truggy combo. i will use Neu 1512 2050kv with MGM until i get hold of tekin. With 46/12 gearing it should work ok as total gear reduction will be 17.63:1 and on my maxx i had 18:1 and neu had no issues to move it around when maxx was over 13lbs. Mugen should be under 10lbs RTR with 5S lipo Truck will have mbx5 buggy 2mm offset hubs as with standard truggy hubs it's just too wide for some technical tracks (over 1/2" wider than losit 8ight-t) I got MBX6 shocks (they work incredibly well) on my mugen so it should do ok this racing season. Slipperential will arrive on monday and once i got it I will put here few pictures as right now it's just a roller with only servo installed. |
Hmm... I dont think I would get rid of that Gmaxx chassis since they will become collectors items.....
Looks good tho! |
I am sorry to see you let it go. Yours was one of the first E-Maxxs that got me started modifing mine. Good luck.

check out stormer hobbies....there are 2 1700kv truggy combos left :)...or you can wait til mike has them in stock... as well ;)
|
My friend really wanted the chassis for couple months and i want to run all my cars not just sadly look at them that i dont have time to take them for a spin.
i'll rather buy the tekin from Mike :yipi: 2mm offset buggy hubs, battery tray and pinions are on the way so the truck should be ready for race may 9th http://rcx.cz/temp/mugen1.jpg http://rcx.cz/temp/mugen2.jpg http://rcx.cz/temp/mugen3.jpg http://rcx.cz/temp/mugen4.jpg |
mugen is all done.
1700kv tekin combo 5S hyperion 3300mah 35C/65C slipperential proline VTR tires RTR ~4320g will be switching to EC5 connectors as soon as they arrive. http://www.rcx.cz/temp/m/mm3.jpg http://www.rcx.cz/temp/m/mm1.jpg http://www.rcx.cz/temp/m/mm2.jpg |
new layout
ESC is screwed down waiting for neu 1415 to replace tekin http://img.rcx.cz/new1.jpg http://img.rcx.cz/new2.jpg http://img.rcx.cz/new3.jpg |
Let us know how those 14xx series Neus compare to the usual 15xx we normally run.
|
got the motor today. it even has a flat spot on the shaft which is sweet.
|
Have you had a chance to run it yet?
|
just on a stand.
it is not as smooth as MGM however for racing smooth enough. first real run will be this saturday race. http://img.rcx.cz/nm2.jpg |
The 1415 has the same size rotor right?
Let us know how that thing performs! |
how performs the tekin motor?
|
tekin is LAZY. it just does not have the punch I am used from my old Neu 1512 with MGM.
I have to be much harder on the throttle which makes it harder to control the truck. will let you know after the race how Neu works. |
Cant increase the punch setting on the esc to make it abit zippier?
|
I have punch to maximum (punch control to OFF). i was told by long time 10th scale electric racers that takins are bit lazy. Dont know if its ESC or the motor. Will see on saturday. Most of the Laziness can be eliminated by setting the most aggressive throttle profile on the ESC along with the help of EXPonential on the radio. Would be nice to have all the throttle curve adjustability that 4PK offers but I dont like the huge futaba receivers that have overheating issues (at least older 603 ones, dont know if the new 604 that come with 4PK are better)
With MGM and Neu i did not have to deal with this. Deafult settings and I had all the power I needed. Maybe playing with timing would help but i am lazy to drag laptop to the track but I expect less hassle from electric than from my nitro buggy. More practice track time will help sorting this out, but with the little pracitce i can get i need to focus more on nitro as there is not much electric 1/8 scale competition |
what timing did you use? timing has a big effect on the performance. higher timing must not cause a much hotter motor, but by far better performance. just try out. every motor has it's ideal timing.
I have a losi 1700kv 4pole motor, and there's a big difference between 1 and 7 degrees timing. just take the tekin, try out a higher timing step by step and I bet that you're surprised... I just can't believe that tekin/neu makes such weak motors. |
I use default timing on the RX8 which is 10
I never said Tekin has not enough power its just lazy = the throttle curve is not linear as with Neu. neu will pull from standstill to maximum rpm smoothly. Tekin needs some time to spool up from low to mid rpms. The start on Tekin is great but the acceleration is not what I need when exiting corner (mid corner exit whe I go from low to mid rpm). Sure this I can overcome by hitting throttle harder but then i would risk hitting it too hard and spinning tires. This is how the motor response feels http://img.rcx.cz/tn.jpg |
ok, I understand, interesting.
maybe you can compensate it with 15deg. timing? |
5:14am and I am leaving for todays race. have hotwire with me so we will see
|
As expected Neu power delivery was smooth. Much easier to drive with compared to T8. After 9 minutes of runtime motor was 60C (140F) with outside temps around 30C (86F). ESC without fan was 45C (113F) at heatsink. I am very happy with this setup as it allowed me to run very consistent lap times (car no. 2).
Caliber VTR M2 worked great on hard packed very abrassive track. Much better than Revolvers VTR M2 to my surprise. We did run qualifiers along with Nitro truggies and they stood no chance. http://img.rcx.cz/most1.jpg http://img.rcx.cz/most2.jpg http://img.rcx.cz/most3.jpg http://img.rcx.cz/most4.jpg |
Talk to Randy Pike. I got to drive his electric MBX 5 a few months ago. And it wasnt lazy.
Im sure you can get it to be a beast off the line. Most people dont want a ton of punch, but im sure you can dial it in |
It is beast off the line but there is a hole when going from low to mid RPMs then its beast again. It should be possible to eliminate the hole for example with Futaba 4PK and its throttle profiles but just RX8 profiles along with EXP on my DX3R did not help. Also couple fellow racers feell it the same and they played with timing.
However I am staying with neu. Runs cooler, linear power without any tunning and is over 50grams lighter. |

thats a good idea. did not try it as i though tekin switches from sensored to sensorless mode at much lower RPMs but the hole might be caused by the switch.
|
anyway NEU 1415 is great little motor. It was cooler than Tekin. Like the closed can.
Never run 1515 but it has at least as much power as 1512, however it is hard to tell on the track as not much power is really needed. Based on W info on Neu site it is between 1512 and 1515. |
Nice job on the race Radek!
