2650 on 5s hotbodies lightning street 1/7 (hehehe)

Well i pulled the esc out of my buggy because i wanted to get a testrun in on my 1/7th scale lightning street.

castle neu 2650

so i take it out and get some good passes and its hauling i would roll into it till full throttle and it was flying down the street. it would start to skate around as i hit full throttle... well i got into it to hard and the front end unloaded and so did my tire it ripped itself into pieces.

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g1...90428-1203.jpg

so i went to the tire bag and grabbed a bald set of buggy tires i had and threw them on well they fared a little better but they're now trash

so all in all it was fun and hopefully ill have some video next time.

btw motor temps never got over 110 esc i got the fan to turn on temped at 155 and the battery was 110 that was after a good 10 minutes of running

_paralyzed_ 04.28.2009 02:17 PM

always have video rolling, sheesh:lol:

lincpimp 04.28.2009 02:17 PM

What mount did you use for the motor? I have a LS too, and want to convert it!

cheesecake 04.28.2009 02:18 PM

i used the caster racing mount out of the fusion because i had one laying around i used the whole caster diff mount and diff also

Any reccomendations for tires that wont explode and a reccomended diff fluid so the front end doesnt unload

BrianG 04.28.2009 03:25 PM

rchippie had a line on some belted tires. Maybe contact him? I plan on getting some for my Ultra GTP since I trashed the stock tires.

Edit: Found what I was referring to: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15905

100k for the center diff sounds about right. I plan to leave the 2 speed in mine, and aim for 90+ mph sppeds, so some decent tire info would be good too. BSR make caps, which supposedly are very good. Lutach said his relative in brasil makes tires and was going to make some decent belted tires for rc...

Hard shore foams would hold up better, but I doubt that they would wear well.

BrianG 04.28.2009 03:29 PM

Just curious, what would the purpose of a CD serve in an on-road car? I would think a solid center drive would be preferable.

cheesecake 04.28.2009 03:40 PM

i just ran it this way because i had the diff and a regular pinion im going to order up the rcmonster 2speed parts and we can see what happens after that.

BrianG 04.28.2009 03:46 PM

I don't know about linc, but the one time I got into second gear, the torque broke all 4 tires loose and lost control until I let off the throttle. Wasn't fun for me. Great for speed runs but not so much parking lot/street bashing.

[OFFTOPIC]
Does anyone make a "generic" locking center hub for the typical 46T CD spurs? I know a select few vehicles have that as an option, but was thinking more general purpose. This could either be a center diff insert or a different unit altogether. The GTP has a single speed option, which I'm using, but it's made for 51T spurs, which are too big for normal buggies/truggies.
[/OFFTOPIC]

Arct1k 04.28.2009 04:00 PM

Yes the CEN locker works

cheesecake 04.28.2009 04:01 PM

ofna has on in the oval car kit but i cant find the part number

cheesecake 04.28.2009 04:06 PM

never mind its 51 tooth like you said

BrianG 04.28.2009 04:25 PM

Hmm, I bet that would be a fairly popular item if Mike made a 46T version (or a way to bolt up a plastic or metal spur to it). A CD is good for racing, but the benefits are almost nonexistent for bashing...at least IMO.

I guess I got used to it with the revo that I ran with the 2 speed, and the savage too. With the savage I set 2nd gear to engage quickly, must have been at 10mph or so. This helped the air hv esc I had start easily, but it shifted before I had much speed. This seemed to help alot. I remember the revo would do a back flip when it shifted if I did not anticipate the shift and back off slightly as it shifted... I have a feeling my 1/7 scale will be a handful... Going to run a 1521 1y on 6s2p 4500 30c cells (thats right, 9000mah and 270amps cont), geared 25/42 in second for starters, then move up to a 30t pinion...

The 25/42 gearing should do about 80, and if I step up to the 30t pinion I may best 100mph. Not sure if the 1521 and a MMM will do that though...

On a slightly related topic, what rcm motor mount do we think will fit the LS? Maybe the lightning buggy mount?

Arct1k 04.28.2009 04:43 PM

This is just much easier - slots into a diff and costs under $5!
