Your favorite 1/10 4wd electric?
I'm thinking about picking one of these up, and have considered a few options. Setup will be a VXL on 2s. I've been thinking about the TT sparrowhawk XT, the TT sparrowhawk XB, the kyosho lazer ZX-5, Team academy SB pro, and the HPI brama. What is your favorite out of these, or any others I missed around the $150-200 price range?
|
try the hpi cyber 10b.

Found it. Looks nice, but I can't tell if it runs a stick pack sideways or saddle packs

Unique Battery Fit The Cyber 10B provides a unique RC 'first' with the drivetrain routing over the battery - the rear diff input shaft is angled up to allow the rear center driveshaft to travel just over the battery. This allows the fitting of several different types of batteries: stick, side-by-side and even hard-case Li-Po! Batteries are held in place with a secure plastic strap and two height-adjustable body clips. There's even wire routing options for the different battery types, whether you are using stick packs with wires that come out the end of the pack, or Li-Po packs that use fitted plugs! |
Cool. I think I'll pick up one of these and a medusa 50-3300 to use with my spare MM and SPC 5000 3s lipo.
|
Can I have your rustler :)
|
You can buy it! I'd love to sell it actually. My sig is not accurate, the truck has been fixed, but had no elecs in it ATM. I'll IM you.
|
the TTs do have captured cvds in the bearings, sealed metal diffs, and parts are not a problem from ACE hobby. if your playing this is what i recomend, the academy has drivetrain problems, and the Kyosho is kinda fragile in the rear end if your not a very good driver.
|
The TTs are looking good to me.
|
I had an academy sb pro V1, and it was solid. People used to have problems with the outdrives failing on them, but I just used a brass collar on the outdrives and never had a single problem. I was running a Feigao 540 6S on 2s with great success. My main gripe about academy is with their parts support options. There are very few stores that carry academy (only MRC and Stormer that I know of), and almost no aftermarket parts to speak of (save for the diggity designs stuff).

I have a Kyosho lazer SP and it is awesome. But if you are thinking about getting one of the RTR readysets in the $150-200 range i would pass for something else, they break really easy. Have you thought about the Tamiya Durga? I know a couple of people that have em and they seem to take a beating pretty well.

Why not a crt .5?
|
I was thinking about a crt.5 but I'd like to try a 1/10 electric just for kicks. What are your opinions on the tamiya dark impact?
|
You'll just end up wasting money if you try it and decide to sell it if you start breaking parts. A crt .5 is a very proven platform with a very strong drivetrain. The other 10th scale 4wds are all plastic weaklings...
Do whatever you want but I think the .5 is your best option. |
You can get my .5 im moving soon (no where to run it) itd be in your price range and is in great condition.

-aluminum shocks -front and rear hinge pin retainers/support blocks -slipper clutch -adjustable turnbuckles -front CVDs -aluminum front steering blocks With those items it's very strong and handles pretty well. But honestly, you're better off with a higher quality buggy from the start, 'cause you'll save money overall. |
i've got an ls10 I'll sell you cheap

Tamiya DB01 all the way! :mdr:
3S and Medusa can get you to 70mph, although a little hot towards the end of the pack, probably go even faster gearing up more if just doing speed runs. Geared for a solid 64 mph with no major temp issues. (this one is kinda modd'ed a bit) http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...edbuggy003.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...edbuggy004.jpg |
Pretty.

the df03 isnt a bad car when spend the money to upgrade it. its biggest drawback is the type of plaxtis used to make the thing. tamiya really used there cheaper sport hobby grade plastic on this chassis, and not the hobby/racing grade that is used on the ta05 sedan, or db01 durga. the plastic will strip easily, even when you switch over to hex head bolts.
you can always get the KM Koncepts chassis conversion like me. but i got raelly lucky on eaby, and got over 1000 in parts of just over 200. i run mine on a 4600 MM, and its pretty much as fast as i would want on a track. heres a taste. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...3/DSCN2680.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...3/DSCN2592.jpg |
Wow, that's some blingage, nice! While on the subject of modd'ed DF-03's...how about a DF-03 Humvee....

topic...
what that? ok, i stil vote for a DB01, or the HB Cyber B10 |
Thanks for the input guys. That is sure a sexy DF-03, MJD!

A-Main has the Team Academy SB Sport Pro Carbon Limited Edition II on sale right now for $189, and it is bad-ass! It is a full carbon-fiber car (chassis, upper-decks, steering plate, battery strap, center-shaft) and has a billet-aluminum motor-mount, front & rear CVDs, nice slipper system, front & rear ball-diffs, teflon-coated aluminum shocks, nice wheels, tires, body & wing, and really is a very nice car...and for $189, it is a steal of a deal! As far as I am concerned, it is in the same class as the B44, Cyclone D4, Losi XXX4, etc..
I bought one the other night, so it should be here very soon (maybe tomorrow), and I am going brushless with it as well. If you want to see the car in extreme detail, plus a very nice review, with full assembly steps with pictures (over 100 pics), check out the RC Universe revie [here]. Here is the stock photo from A-Main, and [here] is the link to the kit on A-Main. http://images.amainhobbies.com/images/large/tar1599.jpg http://images.amainhobbies.com/image.../tar1599_1.jpg I am going to be making some custom carbon-fiber shock towers for it as well, if you are interested in having CF towers. |
I was going to consider that car, but I did some research on it and found that it has very weak diffs, and needs moderate upgrades to work well with any kind of BL power.
|
bringing this back up. Local track due to lower turnout has kind of combined the 1/10 scale to a "open" run what you brung type class. The track is really set up for 1/8 scale, and stays dusty. I am looking for a 1/10 4wd truck, and the sparrowhawk has kind of got me. Anyone looked at one in person? I am afraid the track is just too rough for something that is at not at least the size of say a t4.
|
The Sparrowhawk is actually a tad larger than the T4, plus it's 4WD where the T4 is only 2WD, so I think it would perform quite well. I have been thinking about getting a Sparrowhawk myself, but every time I try to order one, it hasn't been released yet.

Just found a killer deal on the b44 : Link to Amain
