my e-maxx 3905, the continuing mod...

I just picked up a used e-maxx 3905 from lincpimp...

I'v got a hobbycity brand 9l motor thats going to get me buy untill I get a tekin RX8/2250 truggy combo:yipi:

the first desicion is shocks...

I was thinking a set of losi 8ight(4) instaid of the 8 stockers... are there any other cheap ones I should know about?

squeeforever 05.01.2009 01:34 AM

Not cheap, but Powerstrokes are the best.

just a lil more than I want to spend right now...:gasp:

but there is a used set on flebay

mkrusedc 05.01.2009 11:03 AM

There are several options.

+1 on the Proline PowerStrokes if you can fine them. Sometimes you can still find they on EBay. There was a set on the UE forum for sale.

UE Supershocks, which are reworked Ofna shocks, but they are expensive also.

Your best option may be AE RC8 front shocks. They are readily available and fairly inexpensive.

there are 5 different sets of powerstrokes on ebay right now... all under different spellings...

so most 1/8 buggy front shocks will work?

I here these things have diff probs, is there any cheaper why to beef them up without spending $100+??

Just run the diffs as it, I doubt you will have issues unless you run giant/heavy wheels and tires...

mkrusedc 05.01.2009 02:48 PM

As linc said the 3905 diffs are pretty good with decent driving and appropriate tires. There are reports of problems but the majority of them are some combination of wrong gearing, big tires and bad drivings skills. The 3906 is a different story.

Oh, and yes most 1/8 scale front buggy shocks will fit.

never had problems with my 3906 diffs...

but the driveshafts on the 3905 are twice the size they were on my 3606:gasp:

off to find some buggy shocks...

mkrusedc 05.01.2009 04:37 PM

Then you should not have a problem because the 3905 diff is a basicaly a Revo spec diff.

twisted8 05.02.2009 03:50 PM

ive got power strokes on mine. love em.

you wouldn't believe me if i told ya how much i got mine for but about 100 is the going price.

squeeforever 05.03.2009 01:14 AM

I paid $130 for mine and it was a package deal that included the shocks, MIP/Proline CVDs, and Lunsford titanium turnbuckles. I regret selling em though...

whitrzac 05.09.2009 09:49 PM

still haven't found a decent set of shocks for it that I can afford...

I was origanaly planing on runing the 9l motor in this, but the RSpro sold so now I have a RX8/T2250 combo coming:yipi::yipi: I think I may need to upgrade the rear diff, but IDK...

I'm thinking if I gear it for 45-50mph I should be good:lol:

still no body:whip:

twisted8 05.09.2009 11:55 PM

the diffs seem pretty strong on the new emaxxs.

whitrzac 05.15.2009 09:07 AM

well, I'll find out... it will do starting backflips:yipi:

the stopies are cooler though:lol:

and just to make you jealous

better wheels and hexxes. the 3905 comes with metal hexxes.id use them or upgrade to 17mm adapters.

whitrzac 05.15.2009 10:17 PM

we have major big problems...

is it worth upgradeing to center CVs??? or will that take out other drivetrain parts??

NO, I will NOT loosen the slipper:diablo:

after 3 runs...

I do have it slightly loose now, but I think this might have happend trying to do frontflips when I first ran it:oops:

the trx wheelie bar is a POS:diablo:

whitrzac 05.17.2009 10:07 PM

got back from the track today...

damage list
front skid plate
front bulkhead
front driveshaft
3 servos!!!
someones pride:lol:

this thing has muched 3 of my best MG servos that I have, a JR650, JR590, and an off brand 202oz .13 digital servo!! 1 was because I had the epa set at 150%, and the 2 JRs just developed sooo much slop that it wouldn't center:diablo:

it handels fairly decent, but I'm defently going to get a set of truggy tires for it.

I beat the 1/8 buggy a guy brought out, he had almost a lap on me and then flamed out:yipi: he wasn't the best driver, but still:oops:

Mmmm, backflips:angel:
I love 30+ foot tripples:whistle::surprised:

BTW, I circled a divot(1.5 in deap,) in the ground(casued by the maxx) that broke the bulkhead.

twisted8 05.18.2009 01:18 AM

yea end points are a very important adjustment. i also read that if not properly adjusted it can pull power to much from the mmm bec.

i set my steering epa so the tires turn and stop right before they lock out.

got any action pics ?

lincpimp 05.18.2009 01:43 AM

None of those servos are enough to run the steering on a MT, you need 250 min and that is with a digital servo. Run a pair of the 650 jr servos, or some 645 hitecs if you feel cheap! I like jr 9100t servos, only need 1 but at $120 each they are a bit pricey. They can be had used for 80 bucks if you look carefully. (cough, crawler forums, cough)

rawfuls 05.18.2009 07:25 PM

I don't see what's wrong in this picture:
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/j...x/IMGP4843.jpg

Then again, I don't have center shafts, watch it be so obvious I'm too stupid to notice em..

mkrusedc 05.18.2009 07:46 PM

Get some dogbones for your centers and you will be done oh and 17 mm hexes will take care of the wheels.

ohh, he ment CVs... when I get the $$

any idea on a good tire that will hook up on a dry, hardpacked, dusty track???

its got a coating of dust(sand) on the top, and underneath its rock hard...

mkrusedc 05.19.2009 12:04 AM

CVDs will work but for the centers because of the limited travel I use dog bones. A very simple, tough and efficient way to transfer power. I got mine from Mike here in RC-monster. My old chassis but you get the idea:

whitrzac 05.25.2009 11:06 PM

1 raceday down well, at least I didn't finish dead last, I beat a 2wd truggy and a guy who blew a glow plug... this is in a truggy class

I had a new first though, I snaped a traxxas hingpin into 3 pices, I didn't know they were that hard, usualy they just bend into a prezzal shape:lol:

I also broke 2 lower A arms... within 5 min of runing

the eaten servo count is up to 4, now I run a ofna saver on the servo since the maxx one is a POS

I'll have more pics of my new low cog CF chasses:yipi: 1 question, how diffrent are the tranny mounting holes on a 3906 and the 3905??

a few new pics...

twisted8 05.26.2009 02:04 AM

i would run the bow ties, less rotating mass. if your looking to get a better servo saver system, mod the stock one like i did.

whitrzac 06.07.2009 04:55 PM
