why are my CVD's to short ??

Ok, This one's got me stuck. why are my cvd's to short? I followed all the rules I think? The pillow are screwed all the way in. I have the right drive cups. Bearings look good. I thought I had RDL's but serum measured his cvd and they are 160mm and mine are the same. do all cvd's have slack in them? I can move the cvd in and out about 1/4 inch. refer to pic's. Thanks for the help. :D

mmdooley 01.17.2006 08:21 PM

Here's the slack when I pull the cvd.

mmdooley 01.17.2006 08:23 PM

This is with the cvd pulled out.

mmdooley 01.17.2006 08:25 PM

This is with the cvd pushed in. All 4 cvd's are the same.

boss 302 01.17.2006 08:34 PM

are the pillowballs screwed in far enough

mmdooley 01.17.2006 08:47 PM

ALL the way.

coolhandcountry 01.17.2006 09:21 PM

That is the same length as my rdlogics. It looks like a rdlogic as well. I would guess you have rdlogics. They are to short. You need mip or ue or something like that.

Sylvester 01.17.2006 09:23 PM

I had the same thing with mine, No problems there, no damage will be done, dont screw in the pillowballs ALL THE WAY, as it will suffer in handling , i too had the RDL cvds and never had a problem.

But if you shim between the axle and inner bearing they look long enough don't they?

Isn't there a bearing spacer missing or something(i dunno i don't have a maxx)because that is a rediculous amount of play.

Nick 01.18.2006 04:41 AM

I use RDLogics (although mine look fatter than those but the shadow might hide it abit) and have no problems.

coolhandcountry 01.18.2006 09:07 AM

The rdlogic I have are shorter and look just like that. I would replace them with mip or ue. I like ue better.

maxxdude1234 01.18.2006 02:41 PM

Judging by the photos I would say that you are using the shorter MIP/ue drivecups. The RDLogics cvd's are slighter shorter than the MIP/ue ones. This is why you can't use the RDLogics cvd's with the ue diffs.

Didn't your cvd's come with their own drivecups? If so, try using these instead.

Nick 01.18.2006 03:24 PM

I had MIPs and they were pants, Rdlogics seem to perform alot better.

Although I just fitted my UE Widetrac suspension kit and they do seem short.

mmdooley 01.18.2006 06:44 PM

Thanks for the help guy's, Maxxdude: my drivecups are the 7.5 1/8 gears so I can't use the old drivecups. Gustav: I am worried about the play in the cvd's. They were like that when I got the truck. Does anyone else have that much play in there cvd's?? Can anyone tell me how long a RDlogics cvd is and how long a MIP or UE is?? Measure the whole thing like I did in the picture at the top of this thread.

Nick 01.18.2006 07:25 PM

I will do that with the MIPs for you tomorrow, thats if I can find one thats not bent.

I don't get play in RDLogics, although I use 23mm hexes, which might alter it?

Maybe they're not even for a maxx, just a thought.I've never known that much play before, that's why i mentioned if the emaxx uses a spacer between the bearings or not. i don't think it does though but not sure.Where did the bearings come from, maybe they're 4mm wide and should be 5mm.Is the drive pin all the way into the hex?if not then tightening the wheel on would remove some of the play i guess.don't really know what else to suggest.

squeeforever 01.18.2006 08:04 PM

they typically have alot of play. thats a bit more than usual though. just shim them inbetween the pin and the bearing until the slack is gone.

Gustav 01.18.2006 08:10 PM

If you shim between the axle and the inner bearing instead they may be long enough. That's what i was trying to say before.

i really can't remember that i measured anything for you...?

But are you using UE diffs? the 1/8th diffs are too small, the RD cvd is too short. you need MIP or UE cvd's to work with UE diffs.

coolhandcountry 01.19.2006 07:06 PM

The ue is 168 mm from tip to tip. the rd logic is 160mm tip to tip.

Nick 01.19.2006 07:15 PM

Can you not replace just the bone?
