RC Monster Mike...thought you and the rest of the guys....

...would like to see the result of all the hard labor and what your generous donation to my speed project (displayed at RCX) has done in the world of speed. Be SURE to keep you up to date with upcoming vids (we're getting a new wedge body made...watch the vid, you'll see why).

Looks great Joe! I like the picture step by step conversion video! And that looks like some serious speeds!

Was that on the donated 6s pack? Elite?

Awesome! now make it go faster....

RC-Monster Mike 05.08.2009 09:41 AM

Cool build and speed video, Joe! As you likely noticed, the stock mechanical brakes on the IGT and IGT2 fade after about 2 passes with the speed you are seeing. I use the Kyosho STR sintered brake setup on mine - waaaay better (they still get smokin hot after a few aggressive stops, but they will lock up all 4 tires and work 10x as well as the inadequate stock brakes). The IGT was even worse(only had one disc vs. the 2 on the IGT2 - neither setup is anywhere near adequate for the kind of stopping power you need. :)

Arct1k 05.08.2009 09:41 AM

Now I hope you realize that the 2650 is not supported on 6s and that you'll invalidate your warranty ;)

TexasSP 05.08.2009 09:53 AM

Very nice Joe. Makes me want to work on my Kyosho Clone conversion.

I am hoping Mike's mount will work on mine as it appears to be an exact clone of the Kyosho. Now if only I could get someone to donate all the parts...........:na:

nitrostarter 05.08.2009 09:55 AM

Why aren't motor brakes used in the app instead of mechanical?

BrianG 05.08.2009 09:58 AM

The two speed setup has a OWB on first gear making reverse and motor braking impossible (actually, very difficult would be the better phrase).

Elite...yep. 5300 30C 6s...they don't have them any more...why I want to see if they'll let me borrow some of their new 5000 35Cs. :)

Do you know if the ST-RR uses the same sintered pads??? We used the pads from one of the sets we had left over from all the RCX conversions. LMK! The stock ones were SMOKING HARD after the 2nd aggressive stop...had to try some more...then had NOTHING!!! :surprised:

But of course. I don't mind paying for it if I break it. ;)

Go for it man! Something to "complete the fleet" if you don't have anything smokin fast yet. As for the parts donation, I put a lot of hours in for those "donated" parts. ;)

It's a 1 way...no way to use the center diff to brake too. :( There are ways but it's just way too difficult and I would suspect prone to problems...don't need the brakes coming on full bore at 140 unexpectedly or not working at all. Reliability is what I'm after.

RC-Monster Mike 05.08.2009 10:22 AM

I suspect the STRR brakes are the same(or at least as good) as the STR brakes. Either setup will be a ton better than the crappy stock setup. They will still get hot after a few passes of course(lots of friction needed to slow down a 9 pound missile), but they won't fade away after 2 or 3 stops like the stockers. :)

nitrostarter 05.08.2009 10:27 AM

Understood! Just didnt think of that at the moment... Same reason I had to run mech brakes on my revo conversion until I locked the tranny in 2nd...

Joe: did you check that PM?

alangsam 05.08.2009 04:26 PM

this is a great idea - best price performer i have seen! time to go shoping on ebay and rcmonster. have all of the rest of the stuff

Unsullied_Spy 05.08.2009 08:15 PM

Looks great! You could try modding it to have brakes on the front and rear center shaft like the offroad 1/8th scalers with an actual CD and run 4 total brakes, that would spread out the braking load and should give you a few extra runs before you smoke the brakes.

nitrostarter 06.02.2009 05:54 PM

Any updates Joe? Was curious on what kind of speeds this thing is going.

Joe Ford 06.02.2009 06:34 PM

Nah, sorry man. Haven't had time. I will try soon without the body. In the meantime we're trying to develop a new body to help keep her to the ground and minimize drag.

TexasSP 06.02.2009 07:46 PM

Joe, there was a guy here in Houston that posted in the brushless forum that was doing the same thing as you. I believe the vehicle was an Ofna though. He had a Viper body with the rear wheel wells left uncut and some other additions to the body to add down force and keep it stabilized. I will try to find it or maybe someone else will beat me to it and post up a link. Just thought it might be useful to you.

snellemin 06.02.2009 10:00 PM

It was B4maz.

snellemin 06.02.2009 10:01 PM

double post.

SunnyHouTX 06.02.2009 10:03 PM

He is a member here: B4Maz. Shoot him a PM

Edit: LOL, triple post.

shaunjohnson 06.04.2009 04:58 AM

:surprised::gasp:
you had better lure down the local bunch of nitro fags LOL...get em all wound up and give em a drag race and show em what electric is made from :na::party:

Joe Ford 06.06.2009 02:22 AM

In the process of trying to make a custom CF/Kevlar body with side force generator panels in a wedge design. ;) More info when I can get to it. Busy season right now!!!

What's_nitro? 06.06.2009 02:52 AM

:oh: Nice.

auto2 06.06.2009 07:43 AM

my inferno gt is the most fun i have had with any rc. i removed the 2 speed and put in a buggy center dif for simplicity. racing on local tracks i have no need for a 2 speed. 50 MPH is fast enough lol.

question all the loctite u used in the vid. how do you get the pinion back off?

Semi Pro 06.07.2009 12:11 AM

joe that makes me want one even more

Just hit the pinion gear with a lighter or a micro torch. It will melt the green Loctite and the gear should fall right off.

Hi, what's your setup ?

nitrostarter 07.09.2009 10:30 AM

Secrets!

... He probably won't say if he is going to the Speed Runs in November.

nitrostarter 06.04.2010 10:16 AM

Joe- Any updates here?

Joe Ford 06.04.2010 10:26 AM

Nothing new to report unfortunately...been too busy with work and personal life. The cars have had to be set on the back burner. Molding a body is just going to be too time consuming (which I don't have a lot of right now), and I haven't been able to find a suitable body that will easily fit. :(

nitrostarter 06.04.2010 10:30 AM

Busy with work? Tell Patrick this is advertising work ;)

Have you thought of using any DirtOval/Late Model bodies?

Did you get any confirmed speeds on the car?

Joe Ford 06.04.2010 12:01 PM

Way too busy at work and after...like I said, the car has had to take the back burner to life. I was looking for something more along the lines of this for the body if it would fit. http://www.serpent.com/image.php?ImageID=1234570214

No confirmed speeds...again, no time...and nobody brave enough to stand in front or anywhere near the thing to get the reading. lol And no room for GPS I might add...

nitrostarter 06.04.2010 12:38 PM

Joe, I have plenty of time. I'll pay for the shipping, just send it my way and I'll work the kinks out with the new body.

When the spare time arrives, make sure to keep up updated.
