RC-Monster.com Get-Together

Mike and I are starting to kick around an idea and we'd like to know what you folks think about it.

We'd like to have a get-together for RC-Monster.com members where we rent a track for a couple days and have people stay over in a local motel/hotel on a Saturday night.
At this point, there are no solid plans, but we're thinking sometime in August 2006. The location is also not determined, but Mike has a track near him that would work, so NY is a possibility right now. Depending on how many people want to go we may need to find a different location to be compatible for people to drive to.

Please reply here with your location and how far you'd be willing to drive (in hours) so we can start to plan. Of course anyone is welcome to fly as well (for you overseas folks :) ). If we have enough people, I'm sure we can get a discount on a motel.

There are still a LOT of things to research and plan on before this can happen, but we'd like to get your feedback to see if it's something we should pursue.

Thank you!

I think it would be nice to get together for a weekend. I am in Ohio so any place in New york would work. August works as long as school has not started yet. Kinda tough for the left coats though.

captain harlock 01.18.2006 10:14 PM

VEEEEEEEERY tough for me. Absolutely impossible. I'm in the middle east, Saudi Arabia, though I look forward to drive with you people.

coolhandcountry 01.18.2006 10:15 PM

on the east coast or so sounds good to me. August don't sound bad. I have to make this. It would be awesome.

squeeforever 01.18.2006 10:20 PM

how about somewhere a little further south? like north carolina? newyorks a goodways from louisiana.....btw, how far is the big apple from orange county. that might make a nice vacation as long as school hasnt started yet....

Batfish 01.18.2006 10:27 PM

That's why I was asking people to post how far they would be willing to drive (in hours). For example, I'd be willing to drive about 8 hours, especially since I'd have a place to stay once I got there :)

boss 302 01.18.2006 10:55 PM

Sounds like a good idea to me i would really like to meet all you guys and gals and i would be willing to drive 10 hours as long as i have place to stay. August sounds good as long as it is before school starts. I live in zanesville ohio(south of cleveland) which is about a 2.5 hour drive to cleveland. also if you make it in a more southern state like squee said that would be good also. But ultimatly it would be up to my dad since he would have to drive me there.
andy

P.S thanks for the letting me know about this in advance that gives me about 7 months to persuade my dad and save some money. :p :p

coolhandcountry 01.18.2006 10:59 PM

I can swing about a 10 hour drive. That is not bad. So I can got from ny to fl and farther west.

crazyjr 01.19.2006 12:38 AM

10 to 12 hours sounds good to me. I live in central Georgia and a trip to NY sounds like fun. Never been there or most anywhere else, so it will be an adventure. It would be cool to see all the heavy hitters there

Dafni 01.19.2006 03:16 AM

Wow, I would love to join! Let me check some cheapo flights.
Might stay a dream, though. But 7 months in advance is nice, maybe I can arrange something.

Basketti 01.19.2006 03:29 AM

WOW this would be great! imagine all the aluminum trucks! and high end brushless systems! if i win the lottery i'll come.

Dafni 01.19.2006 05:08 AM

I also considered the lottery ;)

Basketti 01.19.2006 06:15 AM

lol we better start buying tickets every lottery. how about eveyone on the site donate $5 so that Dafni and i can buy lottery tickets and hopefully one of us can win and we'll pay for the other to come aswell lol.

Dafni 01.19.2006 08:06 AM

I just got my suspicion confirmed how toublesome it is for a "foreigner" to enter the states :cry

It's also hard to find a cheap airline.
Has anybody any suggestions on a cheap airline? I'm looking for a connection switzerland-USA.

I guess fliyng to canada and hitchhiking to Mikes place is out of question :L:
I'll have to build a raft, then, and just row southwards.

Sneeck 01.19.2006 11:55 AM

That would be awesome for sure. Don't know if I like the idea of walking around w/ a 5k toy on an airport tho

If we end up in NY, one option would be to ship your vehicle(s) ahead of time to Mike, which would avoid having to carry them on a plane.

CCristo 01.19.2006 12:53 PM

Sounds like fun, but August is a busy month for me. If the date works out I'll attend. Joe, wanna carpool?

Just remember the Roar Off-Road Modified Nationals are August 10-13

Sneeck 01.19.2006 01:43 PM

Batfish,

Allthough that's a good idea, no way i'm shipping my baby the way some shipping company's treat package's. It would cost an arm and a leg to insure it too.

Serum 01.19.2006 02:24 PM

It's a supermaxx sicco.. In the worst case, it would fall out of the plain.. Finding it back is what concerns me the most..

I like the idea, Perhaps Daniel and i can be fellow travelers.

Sneeck 01.19.2006 02:29 PM

Rene, if you go, I come allong. Don't wanna mis out on this.

Beside's I wanna go to america one day or another. This would be the perfect excuse.

coolhandcountry 01.19.2006 02:51 PM

I like to run with the rest. I like to accually meet most of the people that I have chatted with on here. I think that would the the coolest. Check out all there rides up close to. I think it will be exciting. Have a lot of rc power in one spot that is for sure.

Serum 01.19.2006 04:18 PM

Let's check out some prices then Sicco!!

flying from Germany would be the cheapest i guess..

Dafni 01.19.2006 04:40 PM

I seriously think about this.
Yeah, flying from germany would be the cheapest, no doubt.
I haven't checked flights from A-dam, though. I wouldn't mind a stop in NL either.
If we find a good deal, write me in for sure. Something like a 7 day stay would be cool.

If I wont manage the USA this year, it would be sad. But NL is mandatory this summer, no way around it!

We should definitely talk some more, rene.

dabid 01.19.2006 07:45 PM

I'm gonna have to pass, I complain about a 2 hour drives, don't know if I could keep myself busy for 8 anyway.

mt_enthusiast 01.19.2006 11:59 PM

I had wondered if such a gathering would happen. August is in the middle of my fishin' season, but I'd set aside the time in a second. I live just outside of Milwaukee which is north of Chicago about an hour drive. As for location, would we want Batfish and Mike to have an edge on their home track? :p Whatever is easier to plan for you Batfish.

I can't imagine Coolhand traveling with the hundreds of NiMH cells though. :)

crazyjr 01.20.2006 01:20 AM

I say bring it on, they can't beat all of us

It would actually be Mike's home track if we get together in NY. I'm about 5 hours away and have never visited his track :)

Good replies so far, folks! Mike and I will be talking more about this over the next week or so and see if we can come to a decision on location and time.

mt_enthusiast 01.20.2006 10:08 AM

must be losin' my mind Batfish. I thought you had videotaped Mike drivin' at Barnstormers. I've got a friend in CT so I could also use this as a reason to head East. :D

The video was from when Mike and I met up at Monster Madness III in CT (RC Madness) last year.
Speaking of video, I plan on taking lots of pics and video at our get-together :)

Sneeck 01.20.2006 01:16 PM

Perhap's it's an idea to do the meeting in July?

Dafni 01.20.2006 03:26 PM

I don't mind the date, for as long as we know it a few month in advance. I don't mind the place either, but near mikes place would be fine for me, as I plan to stay a few days in his area.

For me it's just a matter of getting the cash, but if I step down on my RC spendings I should have it in a few months.

Serum 01.20.2006 03:39 PM

LOL Daniel..

we could also rent the Dodge Viper then!!

Mike, how large is your backyard? i know coolhand has got half the US as his backyard...

Sneeck 01.20.2006 03:44 PM

Prepare for atleast 4 people in your backyard Mike.

This could be fun!

Dafni 01.20.2006 03:52 PM

LOL Rene, I take the hint. But it's not as bad as that, we would be ending up hitch-hicking, believe me!:L:

Man, maybe I should really get a messenger again, and speak with you dutchies some. But I just don't like those messengers much.

Serum 01.20.2006 03:53 PM

campfires.. guitars.. RC... yeah, sounds like fun to me!

Batfish 01.20.2006 10:08 PM

Does anyone else have a preference for July? Since nothing has been planned at this point, the date is definitely negotiable.
I chose August to start because I figured it was the furthest away before school started, but no other reason.

Keep the replies coming with ideas and input!

I'm hoping that we can have at least a date and location before the middle of February, then we can start figuring out motel information and event information.

:)

FYI - for those interested, if we have the event in NY it will be at Barnstormers. Here is a Mapquest link for that location:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...&zipcode=10918
You can use the link to get driving directions and approximate drive time.

squeeforever 01.20.2006 10:24 PM

well july would be much better for me since school starts REALLY early (like 10thish) and a little furter south would be AWESOME. i know theres a HUGE track (The Farm 2) in N.C. is this a possibility since barnstormers is 1400 miles or 21 hours away!!

boss 302 01.20.2006 10:30 PM

it really doesnt matter to me when it is or weather it is in N.C. or New York. Just let me know a few months in advance so that i will be able to get plans made.

Papa 01.20.2006 10:58 PM

7.5 hours, 455 miles, a nice days drive. Is their a local airport?
