The neu died again (new motor choices)

ok so my neu 1515 1y has bit the dust once again.
im in the market for a new motor. the only thing i would like to have is one that will take up to 30v for 8s.
the new tekin t8 2d 2000kv looks like the best looking for the price.
i dont know the rpm max rating of the motors but it looks is like im leaning towards the t8
the medusa 80mm looks promising, but im traying to stay away from air motors witth holes.
the ccneu . i dont like the green. but it seems to be a good motor but it only has one wind
help me deside

1515 1y. its the same problem as before. im tired of the terrible reliability of this motor. to fry in my front yard is one thing but to fry on a track with 5 nitros against you is just plain embarrassing.

whitrzac 05.10.2009 09:48 PM

think it has somthing to do with the 8s lipo??

emaxxnitro 05.10.2009 09:50 PM

what do you think about this motor ? http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=3869
not a bad price
no i was running 4s. 8s if for the future

BP-Revo 05.10.2009 10:07 PM

What exactly is the problem? Those of us who don't know what happened before don't know what happened...

emaxxnitro 05.10.2009 10:09 PM

blue input winding. broken winding as it enters the stator. burnt. you can see it in the pic

TexasSP 05.10.2009 10:13 PM

Are you running it in dirty conditions without the holes covered? Are you seriously running it on 8s? If so do you not realize that is 5k rpm's past spec? What gearing and speed are you set for? What vehicle? What setup in the vehicle (tires, etc.)?

emaxxnitro 05.10.2009 10:15 PM

this one fits the bill, http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...dd2c85770f5597
its perfect for my sportwerks termoil. and can serve as a back up when my 1515 is in for repair. sweet!
no
i would like to have an 8s setup for a fish in sea.
this motor has never been above 6s. i have babied it its whole life. i have the holes covered in hvac tape when i run

TexasSP 05.10.2009 10:17 PM

If you are killing a 1515 I would not suggest sizing down to a 1512 to solve your problems.

emaxxnitro 05.10.2009 10:19 PM

i would gear accordingly. i mainly want if for my sportwerks conversion. but i can use it in my light weight racing e revo for 2 races while my 1515 is in for repair.

So what about answering some of our other questions so we can accurately try to help you?

Is your drivetrain free? There must be underlying problems to kill 2 Neu 1515/1Y's. You should have no problem running that motor in that setup. Many people run this setup problem free.

emaxxnitro 05.10.2009 10:40 PM

well its still the same motor just repaired. no drive train problems i put my feigao in and it rolls just fine.

TexasSP 05.10.2009 10:40 PM

Like nitrostarter said, something has to be wrong in your setup to kill two neu's in a row like that. Either something seriously jacked in the drivetrain or you are getting dirt inside the motor.

nitrostarter 05.10.2009 10:49 PM

How is your gear mesh? A proper gear mesh is key!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too tight and it will cause these motors to over heat and possibly fry the windings like seen here.

it might have been on the snug side. but paper fits between the mesh just fine.
this could very well be my problem.

Neu

I just tried a 1515 2200 kv yesterday in a Lst2 with a big CEN Genesis wheels,
MGM 22418 ESC, 6S 8k M.A. lipos. I combine the gearing with a 63 spur and 30 pinion and it's still pulling wheelies but I notice it wasn't as fast as with a LPR MT tires. I put the stock 25 pinion and the motor only reach a 120 degrees. The truck weights about 15 lbs with the CEN wheels on. This motor is more powerful and heat less than my 80mm 2000kv Medusa. I'm surprised you aren't having goodluck with that motor. I own three Neu including a 1527 and it performs flawless.

Man if it happened twice, it's all you. If Neu repairs it this time, try plugging those holes. It looks like the bearing is gone, too.

DwightSchrute 05.10.2009 11:54 PM

what esc are you using?

Patrick 05.11.2009 05:28 AM

If the wire was broken then it sounds like it's been bent back and forward too much, or not been supported enough and bounced around while driving. Those wires are fairly brittle and don't like much movement at all.
My 1515 1y is all most a year old and hasn't had any problems, so it's pretty unlucky to burn 2 off them.

+1 i was just gonna state that, i alway tie wrap my wires together and also to a post or something, AND put hard foam underneath the wires exiting the can, what ive done lately is layer up shrink wrap till its snug against the holes. BAM no flex, do you have pics of the wiring before the burn?

no i have them supported with heat shrink and made sure not to bend them.

chilledoutuk 05.11.2009 05:36 PM

from the picture it looks like you have tied the 3 cables together from the way they are bent towards each other, even the grommets have been displaced from this.

I think you should try using a castle-neu motor as its better designed for the rigours of rc and i doubt you would break it as easily.

hey nobodys perfect
yeah i will send it in and if its money to replace i will make it a 1521 1y f :gasp:

emaxxnitro 05.11.2009 11:00 PM

i now have reason to believe that my mamba max killed my neu. i updated the firmware right before the run. and when i plug in my feiago all i get is cogging. i down graded the firm ware and it works fine. funny.
