Good street tires?
Looking for a good street tire for one of my "special" builds.
I have a few criteria to meet: 1. Must be no less than 5.75" tall 2. Must be able to be mounted to a rim that offers zero offset (such as a stock maxx wheel, hex size does not matter) 3. Must be able to handle speeds of 60+mph, I can/will tape and balance the tire, and use molded foams if available. Ultimate grip is not that important, as I will most likely just be driving in a straight line. I would like a tire that does not wear too quickly... Thanks guys! |
Road Rages are bad. The 40 series are 5.75" tall.
I don't know which rim would offer 0 offset tho... I have a set mounted that would need to be boiled off if you want them? I can bring them over one day soon. |
Imex Road Dawgs?
I agree Road Rages suck, balloon bad and have a weak sidewall. My buddy runs the Dirt Dawgs and they are lots less balloon prone than many out there. Not sure how they'd do over 40 mph tho. You'd have a choice of compounds, soft and medium- he runs medium and they are super sticky- they have nice thick sidewalls and are wearing very well. |

Any of these work? the largest is 150mm

What about the HPI Phalt Lines?
|
I like those GRP tires, they make such a realistic squeel when you break them loose :)
|
GRP and Phaltlines are only 5.5". Linc is looking for 5.75" tall....

Yeah, they fit standard 3.2" MT rims.

Losi 420 series Road Rash, comes with foam. Losi site doesn't give dimensions though.

For a speed setup- no better way. Think about having a gear constant and not variable, may cost some speed but handling would be consistent and traction as well... don't seem like nukular rocket physics to me...... |

60+ mph, 5.75" tall, and just the other day it was extended revo chassis... uh oh linc's gone mad!

Just wondering if anyone has tried reinforced filament tape like this:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/115/3377/=1utloh It has fiberglass strands running through it and is almost impossible to tear. I have always had to use a razor blade. I would think it with some of the other tires would offer the properties of a 1:1 steel belted radial. Especially if the tape was applied then backed with a liquid rubber glue type compound. Could probably be used with the 40 series road rage and still kept fairly light. |

The reinforced filament tape is definitely thinner and lighter than duct tape. Honestly I doubt you would add hardly any weight and the adhesive is probably aggressive enough to use without the rubber backer. I may try this on the Yusa you sold me when I get it going, someday......

Same here, the only moving it does is from one spot to another when I need something that is sitting under it. It's a great conversation starter though. Everyone that sees it always asks questions. Maybe I should use it to decorate the coffee table......
my wife would love that! It's almost like the damn thing doesn't WANT to get built. |
Ok so I have decided to go with a std MT wheels as that wheel type offers the least offset that I can find. So I need a good street tire for a MT wheel. Something close tp 5.75" would be great, and less sidewall bulge would be better too.

Don't want the 40 series any more?
