Insides of a Plett heli motor
Plettenberg HP300/20/A4
Just picked this up, and I figured I would post a few pics of it for all of you to eyeball. Very interesting motor, lots o poles, and a built in fan (run Brian G!). Has an almost completely hollow rotor core, looks to be made up of 3 disks, 1 for each end and 1 for support in the center, kinda like a drum/barrel. Those 3 disks have holes drilled in them to further lighten them. The can is also very lightweight. Construction quality seems very good, as has been the case with all of the plett motors I have owned. 740kv, and it has a 5mm shaft and std 540 bolt spacing for 3mm screws. I plan to run it in a buggy on 10s lipo. Not sure about the power, but should be comparable to a 1907 neu, so around 900-1000watts potential. So also comparable to a 1509-1512. Given the light rotor and multipole it should spin up fast and have lots of torque! http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3399.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3400.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3401.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3402.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3403.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3404.jpg http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...p/DSCF3405.jpg |

Btw, linc, don't you have enough spare in that drawer that have yet to be touched? You'll need to expand to a second drawer next... |

NS, yeah I have a few spare motors laying around... I have some lower kv mega 6 pole motors that I need to put to work. Just waiting on suitable sized hv escs to surface. |
yeah, hv would be nice. my 1050/kv 1521 wants like 12s.......
and lets not take a peek in James' drawers.......... |

Back on topic: Motor looks quite interesting, but it looks like a rock could get caught in the fan, between the case causing the motor to seize possibly frying the motor/esc. I'm skeptical of the design, but if it works, looks like it could become a very good design.
Back off of topic: Hand porn is a very eery topic, one minute you're talking about motors, the next minute everyone is giving everyone high-fives! (There's a joke in there I think is very funny, first one to find it gets a prize!) |
Good point, Ian. Maybe use as a crawler would be all right, but I'd be worried about debris otherwise.
As far as the joke- I get it. "High five" But you're young and still growing. You'll see 6, maybe even 7! |

[joke] But I thought it was brought to me by the letter 4! [/joke] |
People are using sensoreless outrunners with great succes on crawlers so I would think that motor should work okay.
|
I plan to put some screen over the side holes, which is actually the air exit. The air is drawn thru the hollow rotor from slots in the rear endbell and is exhausted thru the large side slots that you can see the fan thru. I may have to remove the fins to fit the beasty!
As far as high pole count motors go, they usually start very well. I run a fair number of outrunners in crawler and dtd apps and they do fine. The rotor is not very long, so I am hoping the high pole count and large rotor diameter will make up for that. Active rotor cooling will not hurt either! |
So where's the picture of the million motors in your drawer? Or was that just a joke?:neutral:
Guess I'm just too stupid to notice anything... :mdr: |

I will get a pic of the drawer, must be 40 motors in there... |
Oh boy, I guess if linc says that, I should get backhanded.
