truggy diff fluid
I have a kyosho st-rr and Mike is making a chassis kit for me right now. I am going to use 2200 mmm combo on five cell maybe going to a 6 cell.
My question is what diff fluid would i use. I am thinking 15 20 5 front middle rear I am mainly a basher. Keep that in mind. If i go to 6 cell I also dont want all the power spooling to the front wheels. What would you suggest for fluid. I also want to be able to wheelie. |

I just ordered some 60k and 100k to try out. I'm thinking 100k in the center should really help out, and I'll probably go 30k in the front and 10k in the rear. |
in my rc8t i run 10k front 30k center 7k rear...its perfect for me :)
|
ya i am afraid that all the power will unload to the front. Maybe i should try higher then 20 in the middle then. 15. 30. 10 or maybe 15, 50, 10
|
I have in my house 10, 30, and 50 wk oil. maybe ill do 50 in the center ten in the rear and mix 10 and 30 for the front.
|
I'm using 120K in the center diff and unloading to the front almost never happens.
|
I'm using 10, 30, and 5K F-C-R on my ST RR running on 5S.
|
do you have any unloading in the front on the st-rr? How bad would the 50k affect my racing if i put it on a track?
|
going way up in the center diff would make the truggy not pivot as you tried to turn. kinda like a dump truck. if you bash just put in the thickest fluid you have. then buy another diff on ebay and set it up for racing. best of both worlds.
|
if you are racing why would you want all the power to unload to the front too? i Mean i know so so it dosent wheelie but i cant belive all of it. Was is a good number that i can bash with / wheelie but still be able to race.
|
Not sure if this will help or not but I like to refer to this whenever I have to focus on my diffs.

that helps. I wish i would know how a brushless motor effect a diff because of the instant power though.

i ran 2650kv mamba Creation combo, 16t pinion, 44 spur, 4s 4000mah, weight 9.4lbs |
he is running a motor with alot more torque.
|
So after putting 100k in the center I gave it a quick test run on and offroad today.
It still only wheelies if you punch it from a nearly dead stop on tarmac. It's much more fun on loose traction surfaces now, and it gets moving a lot faster. I'll probably put thicker fluid in the rear diff as well because it seems to be completely open right now, I might try 7k in the rear. |
MBX5-T
7-17-2 with slipperential in the middle. works great. racing only |
I've been pretty happy raccing w/ 10f/30c/5rear (tekno 8ight-t 1.0)

then again... I've been running the smart diff in my 8T center lately.. tried it in my buggy and it just got chewed up ?torque? but it's held up OK in my truggy for what ever reason. I'm going to swap out fluids tonight though and may go w/ 7k front 3k rear for the truggy as well (smart center) |
Hey the guy at my lhs said that he ran kyosho 500000wt in the center and he dominated monster truck class with that setup. You think that 500000 is too much?
|
That is pretty thick for a truggy/buggy setup. A revo on the other hand uses 500k in the center diff, but it doesn't have 1/8 diffs. You can't run a truggy w/ MT anyway so if you want to run MT & 500k snag a brushless e-revo or revo platinum.

For what it's worth , In my Lightning Stadium Pro Basher truck I'm running M.M.M.2200 w/4s&5s with diff fluids as follows; 30K-F 100K-C 50K-R and it's a friggin' great bashing set up.

If it's a 1/8 diff I'd start with 30k, due to it being part of a transmission and not direct drive. If you have a lot of front end unloading then keep moving up until you don't. You want to just have enough to keep it from unloading... who knows though I guess a little trial and error is in order.

In my nitro Raze ST Truggy I've got 50k front, 100k center, 30k rear, and that is only because thats what the guy I talked to @ Duratrax told me he runs in his race truggy  . I am only a basher, and this seems to work fine, but am I putting undo stress on the drivetrain? I've got a few hi power brushless setups waiting on me finishing some conversions (ex. muggy lt10 medusa 36-80-1600, 14xl, raze buggy MMM medusa 36-60-2000, MMM 2200 combo for another truggy). And know extra load can heat these motors up fast.
I see most of you are in the 7/10/3 range on buggy's and a little higher in the center for a truggy. I'm litterally 10 times higher than that in my truggy. Is that bad for anything? Handeling? Drivetrain? diffs themselfs? Any info apreiceated. -Brian |
Anybody?
I just want to make sure I'm not hurting anything other than traction maybe? It does seem to handle better that with the grease from duratrax, but am wondering the tech told me to run 10x what most of you seem to be running? -Brian |
I'm running my truggy with 7-10-3 for race this Sunday. Traction would be loose and bumpy. Ok?
