Getting out of the hobby...
Sorry guys... have to get out.
It's been fun! |
So what are you doing now.
|
hand porn? there seems to be high demand lately:lol:
|

Good one on the hand porn, I had to laugh when I read that. |
It was the limit that did me in... Now? Getting a sub for my room, Xbox live, and putting the rest towards a new car.
R/C is a money pit... at least for me it is. |
Any true hobby is a money pit...
|
Just set up a rule for yourself, Only one RC car at a time.
Simple, but you gotta stick to it. |
Yep...just one at a time is almost impossible.
|
I have only had 2 at once at most. Any car I want at this point is $600+... More then I think I should spend on (excuse the term) "toy" car.
|
I guess it just comes down to what YOU determine as "Wasteful" or over "to expensive" for a particular hobby. I've spent thousands of dollars on a high end theatre and HDTV display for my gaming hobby as well as even more on my gaming PC, HTPC and misc related goodies. I don't mind, its what I love to do and spend my time with and thats money well worth spent in my book. R/C has always been my secondary hobby so I don't put as much money into it as others do, mostly cause its not my primary hobby, gaming and computers are, so only having one RC makes sense in my book
In the end, I'm only on this planet for a short period of time, and im gonna be slaving away most of it working for ass hat boss. That being the case, by God, im gonna take the money that I earn and freaking enjoy doing what I love to do and spend money on it till I croak and I get put in an urn. I think its a bigger waste of money and time when people spend money on worthless and horrendously overprice brand name and designer clothes just impress others in their little "circle" of popularity and style. Fark that *censored*. I can buy two pairs of pants and 3 pairs of shirts at Wal-mart for $50 and if something happens to them, no big freaking woop. *censored*, i'd prefer our society be completely naked just so I wouldn't have to spend ANY money on clothes. |
I agree... Hobbies are expensive. But when you're trying to save for a real car, and your spending $600+ on toy cars, leaving you with no money left over for other hobbies, with no job, yea, it gets to that point...
If I had all the money, I'd have a 5b. Because I don't, and I want to get into other things besides just large scale rc cars, R/C has to go... Been into it since I was 8, and am 14 now. Had a pretty good run. |

You're only 14, that changes perspective.
I'm a 20yo student, and I've got a little money from working in the summers. When I was 14 I bought a 50€ car (70$) and thought it was LOADS of money... You'll come back when you've got more money... :p |
PM has been sent

Hmm, 14 eh? On one hand, I'd say to keep what you have because A) resale value on this stuff is not great, and B) when you do get back into it, you'll already have something. But OTOH, if you get back into the hobby later on, parts support for the current stuff will be very hard to come by, not to mention the advances by then.
Either way, I'd wait a week or two before making the decision. No good decisions are made quickly. |

(with asian accent) Ahh, yes master sensei... Dude, don't sell your shit, you'll regret it. I regret it selling my very first E-Maxx, hydro boat, rock crawler, etc... Sure times are rough and you want a real car. You have 2 yrs to save for it, you can't drive until then anyways. Get a small job and save what you make. Then if you are still tempted by R/C, then set aside a portion of your earnings and save the rest. The portion should be appropriately named "Yes, I'm still 'always dreamin' for my R/C's" |

Now, im in my career with my own place, bills *ung* but I also have more money to spend on stuff and my car is well taken care off, but its no longer a "fun" hobby like it was during my high school days, i've moved on. |

Im seventeen with no job... I can barely keep one car's head above the water.. Running off 20 bux a week for everything..
|
Ben, at 17 you have the ability to get a job... Even if you're lazy.
I do not... (still searching for one though!) I have thought about this a while... As much as I love the hobby, it's got to go. No money for it, and I'd like to have a life outside of R/C. P.m. replied. |
there are no jobs to be had. damn the economy
|
Never even considered that... If companies don't want to hire a 17 year old, good luck to a 15 year old...
Hopefully by the time I am looking for a job it will have cleared up a bit. |
Dude, when I was 12-15, I was mowing neighbors lawns for money when my allowance was no longer enough. There is plenty of work out there, you just have to swallow your pride a bit sometimes if the job "sucks". Welcome to the real world.

After owning 2wd 1/10's for way to long, and Mini's, my tastes have switched to a much more expensive car. |
Again someone who stops with this hobby because of money reasons :surprised:
Yes it's a pritty expensive hobby, but as other ones said: just buy one car? A little time ago I wanted to stop too, I had invested 2000+ euro (2800 dollar) in the last 2 years, and I'm only 15, that's a bit too much for a 15 year old kid IMO. But I'm glad I didn't sell stuff or something :intello: |

So don't give me that excuse. Selling your RC stuff because you've had a change in hobby taste is one thing, but creating an excuse about it being to expensive is utter BS, your making up your own false reasoning to justify it to yourself. |

If you're not into r/c then get out. My point is there are always "better" things you can spend your money on, and there's usually more you can do to make money. Only you know what you want to do, no forum member can decide your life for you. (unless you're suicideneil and it's the traxxas forum) |

that's what makes this small forum so great. the moderators on this site aren't strict at all. i'm now slowly leaning away from rcuniverse and towards rcm. ok, being on topic: i am only 16 and i have a bl savage, t-maxx 2.5, rustler vxl, and a KM baja that needs a new diff. i pay for almost all of my stuff. i made $400-500 mowing lawns last year. so far this year, i've made only $50, but i am looking for a job. you should just do what i did. take a 5-6 month break and once you have some money saved up, start a project. i did that and my project was my bl savage. it ran its maiden voyage today and sure, there are still some things that need to be worked out, but the satisfaction of seeing a nitro truck being run for the first time as electric is amazing. also, try using budget parts. i spent $30 for my savage's esc and $30 for a used KB motor ($55 new). you don't HAVE to get a cc-neu setup. the MMM combo costs $260 my setup cost me $60. you have 2 years to get a car, just set aside half of your money for that car and use the rest for w/e you want. |
I can't blame you for wanting to get out of RC, even just the up-keep of one is tough on the wallet if you are trying to save for a car. RC is a hobby, if you buy a car it will get you to work and back, which is more important than RC. However, I can almost guarantee that someday you will want back into it. I would say bite the bullet and sell your stuff, because by the time you get back into the hobby it's going to be outdated, as long as you are sure that's what you want to do. Good luck.

Only 15yrs old with all them expensive and some unique vehicles. I wish I had an E-Maxx like yours lol. If you and/or your parents could afford all of those R/C vehicle(s), you and/or your parents can pretty well afford a $5000 used first car (Now if you're picky, you might have to work your butt off) that should be able to get you from point A to point B. My first car was a used Honda that I bought for $1500. So here's what you do, keep your R/C vehicle(s), if you're not driving them put them away. After you get your car, you could get a job and save up for your KM Baja or what ever else you need.
Edit: My biggest regret was getting rid of my 4 first R/Cs: Tamiya Super Astute, Custom Works Dominator, RC10 stadium truck with the Team Pit Stop oval conversion (Chain transmission) and my full aluminum ESP Clod Buster. |
I can't believe all the 16+ year olds talking about not getting a decent job or being able to make money. When I was 16 I took my happy A$$ down to Mr. Gatti's Pizza and got a job. I had to walk a little over a mile most of the time to work. But my paycheck every two weeks was around 250. 500 a month for a teen with no real responsibilities was a fortune. When I moved further down the road and quit Gatti's, I picked up another job at the movie theater and walked there.
There's jobs everywhere for a teen if you don't mind getting your hands a little dirty. Also , if your 14-15 in most states you can go work at the local grocery store (Kroger. Albertsons, Vons, whatever) and get a job sacking groceries. Talk about easy, put the cold with the cold and don't make bags to heavy, then smile and say thank you for shopping at "insert store name here". |
Sell a kidney = $$$$

I am willing to work for my hobbies. I have been into R/C for a long time, parents never helped me. Aside from Holidays, and birthdays.
I CAN afford a nice truck... But at what you can only charge, drive, charge, drive, etc. So many times. I want some variety in my life! |
Your leaving the hobby!?
YESSS!!!!!!!:yipi: Oh whoops, did I type that? Well, if you wanna leave the hobby then I say leave, if you want to stay then I say stay, your choice, but if I were you, take these guys' advice and get yourself a job bagging groceries or something and stick with it. While it seems like a waste of money now, later in life you can look back at your teenage years and think what a great way RC was to enjoy those years, and later in life RC will still be a great way to keep you busy in your spare time. Think of it this way, at least it keeps you from spending the money on drugs. |
I can understand why you want to cash out. It is expensive to run these things, esp if you want the bigger (better) cars like Savvies and such.
Being 14 is a weird age too, its an age where your not really a kid anymore, but not really an adult or older teenager and have the priviledges that comes with (cars, girls jobs etc.) Plus you don't want to be seen playing w/ "toys" even tho you may have been way into them only a year ago or so. I didn't do RCs really when I was a teenager. You will live. I saved up a ton of my money I made and saved it for a car later and then for college so I wouldn't have to work so much as I had savings then. I doubt you will rid the Rc bug forever, when you get older and get more money (and don't worry/care so much about the "toy" thing) you'll have a chance to get back into it. If anything, keep your one favorite as a roller and get rid of everything else if you are sure. By the time you are 17 you may have changed your mind and have more cash. |
Im finally getting a job at the local KFC. Better then no income- Before i did the usual- pray for a good turnout with the holidays :)
Now that I drive and Race the rc's 20 bux a week in allowance just cant cut it. |
My first job when I turned 16 was working for a locally family owned/run Huckleberry candy factory during the summer months. It was hard, hot and sticky labor, but it paid for my toys and my first cars gas back in my high school days. *I feel old saying that*
|
I know exactly how it is, im 15 and am in the proccess of selling my CRT, and my rusty to consolidate down to 1 rc car(prob 1/16 slash)My parents wont allow me to get a job until I can drive which here in VA is 16 and 3 months so that isnt an option for me. But lucky me my parents are providing me with a truck.(04 f-150)
haha, I saw you want a sub in your room. I got a pioneer 12, and a 550w amp in mine. Definately turns it into a more teen worthy chillin spot. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...0/SSPX0583.jpg http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...0/SSPX0563.jpg |
