Looking to get a 2wd pavement pounder
 
I do lots of my driving on pavement and I think a 2wd needs to be purchased. I don't know if I should get something like a jato or something like a rustler.. btw how much does a crt .5 roller got for?:whistle:

Things I am looking for-

Durability, especially the drivetrain
Stability at high speeds
Price - not just the kit but also replacement parts
bashability/jumpability

Let me know your experiences. Please don't post any information about a truck you are selling - just pm me.

For parts evailability, Traxxas is hard to beat. Every LHS I've ever been to has a lot more Traxxas parts than anything else. If you don't waiting for shipping, ordering parts online makes this argument moot.

If you want 2WD, and don't want to do much work to mod it, I'd probably go with a Rustler. If you don't mind the work, the jato works well and the tranny/diffs seem to be better designed than the Rustler.

But, it will be hard to beat a CRT.5 IMO. Most likely more expensive in the end, but the drivetrain is way more durable and it's 4WD.

I'm assuming you'd be converting a Jato to electrics?

I have a VXL rustler and I love making speed runs and wrecking this thing. Its a beast and is pretty durable. Like BG said, most LHS's have Traxxas parts out the wazoo! Get the VXL tranny or upgrade to the metal gears and you shouldn't have any issues there. Driveshaft problems may become an issue running high powered systems, but there are CVD kits out there now. Stock shocks are crap but they do the job. Big Bore shock caps would help them last and make them better. Otherwise, its an awesome and fun little truck. I love the instant power of the VXL system on both 2 and 3s. Its a lot of fun to play with and beat up. I haven't broken much yet, just popped shock caps. She jumps and flies pretty well also.

The Evader is basically like the Rustler, But I would opt for the Rustler.

I voted for other, namely the T3 or T4 associated. I never had experience with the losi's but many friends had them and the transmissions were a bit weak for brushless, not breaking but rebuilds. The associated is very good at handling the power of brushless, I have a T4 and a GT that handle the power great and haven't been rebuilt in quite a while, still feel good

Get a slash and throw stampede tires
On it....the handling of a rustler(almost:)) and the clearance of a stampede...easy to fix...los of parts...proven to be extra durable...and it will look siiiick..a corr body with monster truck tires...and there are always cheap rollers fs EVERYWHERE...or the rtr wtb a battery is less than $200 at amain ( last time I checked)

I voted other.
I use to run the Rustler as my pavement basher monster. FLM is the only way for some serious speed bashing. But it is a whole lot cheaper to make a crt.5 fast. All you need is some foam tires and have at it.
I have pan cars as well, but I can't really bash with them. But they sure are a whole lot quicker with cheaper electronics.

Hey thanks for all the responces guys! If someone could edit the poll, I'd like to change the firestorm and x-cellerator to the losi and associated.

I like what you guys said about the crt .5 too. That is looking better and better... Maybe I could........

The evader tranny doesn't hold up to a vxl system, and since it's a copy of a losi... The firestorm looks like a copy of a T4, with a metal trans and gear diff, and seems well reviewed elsewhere as far as durability, with better handling than a rustler. The rustler is a fun truck with a set of anocondas on it. The only thing I ever broke was rear arm and bent shock shafts from cartwheeling @ 40+mph.

But I'm kinda partial to 4wd on just about any surface. I find it's easier to drive, especially if you like to drive sideways like me. A crt.5, mini Hyper ST or similar would be my first choice if you didn't want to go 1/8th. My brother in law has a dark impact that has taken a pretty good beating too with no breakage, but I wouldn't call it as durable as a crt.5

I ended up getting a Jato. Some peole who's name starts with BL and ends in RVO think it was a bad decision. What'd you guys think?

Also, does the jato need any upgrades anywhere?

Hey now... I didn't like the jato I had, although it was nitro I thought it was a bad platform. Just my opinion.

Upgrades? RPM arms and front bumper. Other than that, it's pretty solid. I tried using TRX CVDs, but they broke very fast. Stock sliders seem to last MUCH longer and are cheap to replace from eBay when they do get worn. I also tried the TRX red turnbuckles and they broke/bent easily. I use stockers there too.

I imagine you'll opt for the single speed conversion so you can have reverse and use the motor for braking? Otherwise, you'll need the mecanical brake and won't have reverse.

Other than that, keep the weight further back for traction and let 'er rip!

I take it I'm the only one that has blown the tranny up?? twice!!

of course it was with an HV 4.5:whistle:

it was geared for 110mph:lol: and at full throttle the slipper was slipping:no: tighten it down, the next run the tranny blew...

It's got the single speed. Used to be whitrzac's... I plan on running the Medusa 50-3300 on 3-4s, will I need any drivetrain upgrades besides the single speed? Output yokes?

I'm liking the way it's sounding.:intello: I'll post up some pics when I feel like it.:whip:

you wont need any driveline upgrades other than doing somthing with the tranny...
