What is fastest Nitro or Electric?

I don't see much of a differance in the 2.

squeeforever 01.22.2006 11:33 PM

well there are many different factors but i would say in general top speed would have to be nitro although the quick acceleration and torque of electric has a bit of a edge.

Basketti 01.23.2006 12:29 AM

out of the box nitro. but modded i would say electric

camel_rc 01.23.2006 01:12 AM

To answer your question...electric.

danhfvcsd 01.23.2006 02:29 AM

i'd agree with basketti on that one - i don't think there'd be any electric RTR that would take on the fastest RTR nitro would there?

Electric has held the boat record for a while now....seems like it must be a hard one to beat -lol-

A nitro vehicle gains power as rpms increase. This creates a lag in power between the low and high rpm's. Because of this lag, electric vehicles will always have an advantage with thier "instant power".

Overall top speed can be acquired with appropriate power/gearing

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 01.23.2006 05:43 AM

As far as acceleration goes (not top speed) the last I checked, electric holds the world record for scale 1/4 mile drags.

MetalMan 01.23.2006 11:24 AM

Electric also holds the RC speed record, with Cliff Lett's vehicle going over 110mph. That was a while ago, and I'll bet people have surpassed that already (with electric).

In stock form, nitros will be quicker. A brushless motor versus a modified nitro engine would be a good fight. My money would be on the brushless motor though.

nbcaznmaster 01.23.2006 04:14 PM

Electric Owns!!!

boss 302 01.23.2006 05:36 PM

a good brushless system could beet a nitro

coolhandcountry 01.23.2006 08:59 PM

There are advantages to both. I like the power of the electric. I have to say though right out of the box the nitro has a higher top speed but I would guess the electric has the acceleration.

squeeforever 01.23.2006 10:07 PM

i saw a few years ago that a nitro st went 111mph

coolhandcountry 01.24.2006 09:27 AM

Well it depends on how you look at fast to. If you look at fast as over all speed or if you look fast as overall accelleration. Nitro is nice as far as the speed and accelleration. The brushless is faster in the accelleration department. It has good speed to. It really depends on the person.

I like to consider it in terms of power to weight ratio, with BL/lipo having the edge over nitro. If you take the weight of the Nitro(engine, engine mounts, pipe, tank,RX pack, clutch assembly, servo)then BL/Lipo (packs, esc motor, motor mount) can come in under that weight with power to spare.A BL/NiMH can't beat nitro for power:weight but has an abundance of instant torque that usually see off Nitro in a straight line.I think the power delivery of nitro has it's advantages too.

When was this Squee? The highest i heard was RC Car Action with a HPI Super nitro RS4 at 101 mph

coolhandcountry 01.24.2006 01:05 PM

I think with the right set up and emaxx can go 100mph.

crazyjr 01.24.2006 04:55 PM

No problem with going, stopping worries me, ouch

boss 302 01.24.2006 04:58 PM

just hope you dont hit a wall but that would stop it pretty quik

nbcaznmaster 01.24.2006 05:27 PM

why stop??? lol, i say keep on going till it travels back in time!

it was on the cover of rc car action (just so happens one of the ones i dont have) a few years ago. ill see if i can find something about it.

The way I see it, electric has way more potential than nitro. Nitro is limited by fuel, and electric by the batteries. Nitro fuel can't really be improved much (except nitromethane %), but batteries are getting better every day.

to much nitromethane and the engines will turn into fireworks

danhfvcsd 01.24.2006 09:21 PM

wouldn't the esc be more limiting than the batts? well - currently anyways..... i mean - you can always have massive voltage batteries or whatnot in some rc, but you still need the esc to run those batts.......
spose batts are limiting too with size and weight?....

i dont really knwo what i'm talking about, so dont mind me -lmao-

MetalMan 01.24.2006 09:26 PM

With Lipos you can get really high voltages, and then match those with a 36cell NiMh controller (up to 11s Lipo), and you have a setup that is far superior to nitro. The maintenance would also be a lot less, but the cost would be greater (there is a price for superiority).
