How are the Rx8 & T8's holding up?

Howdy everyone,

Just researching what ESC/Motor combo to put in my 8ight-t conversion. How are the Rx8's/T8's holding up & what combo of lipo and motor Kv are you running?

cheers

magman 05.28.2009 08:02 PM

They are brand new...so.....I would give it some more time before asking again. Trust me, if someone has a prob., it will be posted!

In my Revo conversion, I am using the 1550kv motor w/6s ( 2 3s in series )

Semi Pro 05.28.2009 08:12 PM

so far so good

What's_nitro? 05.28.2009 08:27 PM

They seem to be holding up well so far. I hope the trend continues, as I have decided to buy one of the combos for my GTP. The *instant* sensored startup is what got me, since I'll be pretty much drag-racing with this car.

whitrzac 05.29.2009 12:18 AM

there holding up good...

a few miner detals need to be worked out with the rotor(magnet slides off the shaft) but tekin is replacing them free if you have a problem, and from what I'v heard its allready fixed...

hootie7159 05.29.2009 01:35 AM

Been running mine in the Sacramento 97+ heat (1700kv combo on 5s rc8t 17/46)...back to back runs...motor stayed at 175 rx8's fan stopped working ( got up to 4-5 LEDS)....and it performed flawlessly...and guess what? I ran another pack through it!!! But the run only lasted 10min..I broke and rear hub carrier:p...temps stayed the same:)

Sounds great! Is this with the new improved rotor attachment? I could guess, but what caused the fan to stop?

hootie7159 06.17.2009 02:57 AM

actually had to gear down b/c 45+ mph was a little too fast...i've been running mine 16/46 for the past two weeks...well...today i ran about 2 packs through and then took the mandatory 10 min break (not running a fan due to it breaking down due to the running conditions and the rx8 only flashed 3 leds anyways)....after chassis slapping the ground after a double the rx8 stopped and only the steering worked....hotwire/new lipos/another motor wouldn't work..just dead..no burnt smell or anything....called tekin and they are aware of certain problems and their CS is awesome..so far..sent it in to get checked and will update soon....motor was fine but sent it in with the esc anyways to get the update.. :)

big greg 06.17.2009 03:15 AM

damn hootie, woulda been nice to have that MMM as a backup huh?

hootie7159 06.17.2009 03:30 AM

on the contrary my dear watson... ...I DO have a MMM V3 as a backup ...(thank goodness)...and since i sent the motor in as well I have a CC neu 2200KV as a backup as well...but I spoke to a tekinrepresentative on the phone to get an RS (or RA# whatever it is) and he said that they are having a 1 out of 10 rotor/esc problem but they have indentified the problem components and will fix my rx8 combo ASAP...just to clarify, they were updating my motors rotor shaft but fixing the esc component :)...the motor was running flawlessly...cool as a cucumber....and the highest the esc ever blinked was 4 LEDS....and this was without a fan....20min back to back runs...geared 16/46...at a big track....in the sacramento summer heat...soooooooo i'm pretty happy with THIS setup :) the MMM worked just fine and if i get a "BASHER" type vehicle again i will put the MMM combo in it but IMHO i prefer the rx8.....that is...until castle comes out with their 1800kv motor....hurry up castle!!!!!!!!!

wallot 06.17.2009 04:30 PM

4 out of 5 T8 rotors separated so far.
Few very soon, one after 2 weeks. One so far is holding after 45minutes of racing.
Locite 648 works like a charm as temporary fix and Tekin is sending new rotors - thats what they said

RX8 needs more aggressive throttle profile set for racing along with some EXP on radio help, but so far very nice ESC and no need for the fan.

mk351e 06.17.2009 10:54 PM

my motor problem happened within the first 2 minutes of use. They are very concerned, and have the fix done, not that big a deal. Something was also wrong with the esc as well, but their tech support kicks ass! THESE people have it together! Anywho, it really doesn't seem like they're having many problems, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one at all, and I do believe that my repaired setup should last a long time. FWIW I've been through like 6 MMM's!! Surely I'll use fewer RX8's!

kalbien 06.18.2009 04:16 AM

Well 4teking motors were on race on saturday, 3 of them are already gone. We are waiting for rotor now, glueing it needs some practice (we are getting plenty of it).

since not living in states, it's not a minor problem, you have to wait quite long and racing season is on... I pulled mine yesterday, just checking who to write to... saturday race (which was actually going to be first electric race in Slovakia ever) is over for me... well. Hopefully next wave will be ok

apart from that - running great, running extremely smooth and on 2000KV geared for 60kmh in my truggy had just right temperature compared to Novak I used earlier

nougat 06.19.2009 03:00 PM

The rotor on my Tekin truggy 2000kv motor came loose in the first minute. I got a replacement that lasted only two packs before coming loose again. The next replacement was a redesigned rotor that has been working great for over 10 packs. It looks like they changed the rotor and fixed the problem.

BrushlessRacer 06.26.2009 05:02 PM

I drove about 10 packs with my tekin combo and the only thing that broke was the Fan. My Rotor can move 2mm in horizontal, is this a problem?

I'm running a 2250kv

Snipin_Willy 06.26.2009 05:05 PM

I don't run a tekin but I would think you can shim it up a little to keep it from moving.

2mm is fine, the bearings are a slip fit on the shaft so thats where the movement is, anyway upon heating of the rotor it will expand around 1mm anyway, you dont want to preload the bearings, there not designed to take thrust very well:whip:

BrushlessRacer 06.27.2009 08:33 AM

This morning i was driving on our local track and suddenly my car starts to stutter under acceleration. (11 Lipo Pack's for so Far)

After a check of the settings with hotwire a went to the Track again and hit the Throttle. I heared my motor turning but my Car wasn't moving at all.:surprised: I think the magnets has come loose from the Rotor:no:

Team Tekin....HELP ME!

I going to sent a mail to support service

Defcon 06.27.2009 01:16 PM

My magnets let go as well. Called last Monday, got the new rotor Friday as promised and so far so good. Give them a call or e-mail your info and they will replace it. Very friendly service.

whitrzac 06.28.2009 09:37 PM

the rotor problem defntly needs to be fixed....

I'm on #4.... #1 and #3 lasted 20+ packs, #2 made it 1/2 a lap:cry:

big greg 06.28.2009 09:43 PM

20+ packs huh? wow im at about 10 now on my truggy motor in my buggy, we will see if mine holds together

BrushlessRacer 06.29.2009 08:56 AM

Mannnnnn :surprised: 4 Rotors:diablo:! I hope Tekin will take care of it so i can drive my next Race without problems. For now they are out of Office till thuesday....

Now i'm gona test a 1600kv medusa on the RX8....

BrushlessRacer 06.30.2009 02:35 PM

Got reply from tekin and they replace my broken rotor ....:yipi:

Tekin Team Thanks!

hootie7159 06.30.2009 06:13 PM

got my 1700kv rx8 combo back from tekin yesterday.....put it back in my rc8t and went to the track....now....i put all of the original settings back on and had it geared 16/46 (my original gearing as well) and this thing was out of control :) !!!!! i think tekin fed my rx8 combo steroids when they were nursing it back to health!!!!....whatever they did it takes off like a rocket now...not sure what changed but i'm happy with it!!!!!!!!

BrushlessRacer 07.01.2009 11:17 AM

are you shure you get a 1700 not a 2250?

hootie7159 07.01.2009 04:56 PM

Well the sticker still says it's a 1700...lol

Kajman 07.02.2009 03:47 AM

Apart from motors, are there any issues with esc's?

BrushlessRacer 07.02.2009 04:20 PM

No issues for me till now....

Appart from my loose magnets i'm very pleased with the system.

(Temperary driving RX8 with a 1600-36-60 medusa motor. Not the smoothest comparing to sensored but still power enough till a get my 2250 back)

Kajman 07.02.2009 04:30 PM

why not smooth? how smooth comparing to mgm or maybe mmm?

big greg 07.02.2009 05:08 PM

medusa's just arent very smooth on any controller, but my MMM 1y and MMM t8 2250 feels just as smooth as the tekin

wallot 07.03.2009 01:11 PM

before

after

new style rotor
http://rcx.cz/temp/m/rotor3.jpg

since glued back rotors work ok, I wanted to put together rotor that came totally apart.

we will have couple guys with new tekin motors without the new style rotor and i want to have couple backup rotor ready for them if theirs fail and I think they will as so far 100% rotors failed (5 out of 5)

I hope the new style rotor can last as long my old neu rotor (2.5 years old) that survived even beating with a hammer when i was trying to remove stuck pinion

BrushlessRacer 07.03.2009 03:44 PM

Nice Pic's....

I already got some 648LT from work and gleud my magnets 2 days ago.

It's a simple job so hopefully it will hold. This weekend i'm going to test it.

Electric Dave 07.04.2009 01:24 PM

So is the new style rotor a real fix? Are these things ready for prime time now?

And, are the new rotors in shipping units?

Hello
Yes the new rotors are shipping in motors. I have put mine through 25 4s packs (15-16 RUNTIME) WITH NO ISSUES.

Great job Tekin.

BrushlessRacer 07.05.2009 04:35 PM

I hope my new Rotor is comming soon!

MTBikerTim 07.05.2009 08:16 PM

Yesterday I gave my buggy it's first hard rap. It was great fun and the RX8 worked great. After a fair while when my mate was having a drive it seemed as if the low voltage cut off had kicked in. So we went home. This morning I was having a read of this thread and went o oh. Went out and checked and sure enough any load or giving it anything more then gentle acceleration and you can hear the magnets slipping. It's a shame cause this thing hauls and is awesome to drive compared to a monster truck.

Didn't get to drive on the track as it was flooded so we were having a bash on the field next door.

Electric Dave 07.05.2009 08:50 PM

Did you have one of the new style rotors or an older one?

I assume it was an older one since I think it was from the first batch tower hobbies received. I haven't pulled the motor apart to check yet. Waiting on a response from Tekin.
