Turnigy 5000mAh 3S 25C Lipo Packs?
anyone have any experience with these?
https://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/...idProduct=9183 the flightmax line of zippy's rock, but i wonder if anyone has used these? any help is appreciated. |
I'd like to know also, great deals here.

Those are brand new. No one has tried them yet. By the time someone has some running info they'll be out of stock....
If they're from hobbycity I'd expect zippy quality, which is great. |
I would expect the same quality.
To me, they look like repackaged Flightmax Lipo's with 10awg leads. Should be some good packs. I was thinking about picking up 2 of those soon. |
if you guys didn't notice, the burst rate is different on these packs. the burst is only 30c instead of 35c like the zippys. i have the zippy 5000mah 3s 25c batteries and the hottest i've gotten them is 102F. they are incredible packs for only $50.

So what kind of voltage drop are ppl getting then for the Zippy batteries? These Turnigy packs look the same to me too, GREAT deal, if they are good quality.

Wouldn't it be REALLY nice to have a standardized testing procedure done so that we could compare apples to apples? A set of tests that would cover aircraft, car, and boat use. I know this has been discussed to death, but it sure would help us out while exposing those "too good to be true" deals... |
I have one in order, should be shipped in few days, its for my drifter but i can compare it over zippy packs.
One thing im suspicious is dimensions, Turnigy pack says Pack Size: 146 x 34 x 25mm and Flightmax pack says Dimensions: 145x50x25mm. How there could be so much difference in width. I think its just typo. |
Difference in width= different cells completely...

And I think who ever sells lipo packs should test them themselves, with some sort of standard discharging equipment, you know? So they can actually stand behind their products, and know first hand what they are capable of.

I think hobbycity use a 3 year old kid with a tape measure to get their measurements! |

you just gave that one to linc in a hand basket |

So i think i am going to give these Turnigy packs a try, $42 for 3s 5000mah... can't beat that man.
Has anyone found any other better deals? The one thing that is really at the front of my thinkin kinda train is the cycle life on these, maybe they have made a chemistry that is powerful but last as good as pealed banana. |
Has someone bought some of these Turnigy packs yet? If so, maybe i'll wait till you get them and if you happen to have an eagletree, post some results? Although, the stock number is going down a good amount everyday, so i don't know.

I just ordered 2 should have them in by next week.
|
hehehe
So maybe I should just bite the bullet then and get some, not a very big bullet either. What balancer do you guys recommend getting? |
Astroflight Blinky, more universal than a really universal thing, and cheap too.
|
I personnally love that my Hyperion balances as it charges. I feel that is the best way to go, IMHO.

A lot believe that you get what you pay for regarding lipos. In some cases that is very true. I don't have a lot of experience in this brushless hobby but what I have also noticed is that in some cases, you do pay a lot more for a little less. And in other cases you pay a lot less for a little more. Feel free to match lipo brands to either of these three categories :mdr: Anyway, I am waiting for 4 of their 2S1P 5000 mah Turnigys to come in. |
Oh for sure I want a unit that balances the packs as I charge, i forgot to mention that. I would charge two 3s packs at once using my BK Precision power supply (0-20volts/0-10amps, CC-CV), then have each pack on it's own charge through balancer.
The flightpower balancers are exactly what I would like, but I just want to know if there is anything cheaper... thanks |
If you get an adapter you can hook the two packs up as one and use a normal balance charger. That's what I do... Then hit it with the blinky.

college??? I have yet to escape high school... |
I'd rather keep using my power supply for charging, it's much more flexible and can be controlled from a computer... it also has a nice screen with set volts/amps, and actual output volts/amps/watts. I like it.
And why do they not have balancers at hobbycity?? I don't get this? |

What about this one? Do I need adapters or anything? |
The chargers at hobbycity balance the packs as they charge - as most lipo chargers do. If you buy a new lipo charger, you'll have a built in balancer 99% of the time. I have a balancing charger and a blinky. When it comes off the charger, it is usually perfectly blanced, but I use the blinky to make sure and I use it after runs.

What about this one? That, and the 3 cell to 6 cell adapter, that should work right. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...Chargers_(350W) This is the power supply I am looking at as well, I thought I would go for a larger psu just to be future proof. |
Anyone else got these?
This 10awg wire is just over kill... You need right tools to solder that big wire, i used pyropen without any nozzle to heat up bullet connector and that way i was able to solder connectors, without damaging battery with heat. |
I use a 300watt soldering iron for stuff like that, 5 seconds warm up and it can melt through anything, and it's like you said, easier on things like batts, speed controller, etc. Get in and get out.
|
I think everything should be coming with 10awg wire now IMO. Add that extra edge of voltage holding ability, especially on LV setups of 4s or less. But it just won't heat up and will also act as a heatsink to suck heat away from batts, ESC, or motor. Just my two pennies.
