ok so theres not a kit

nitrostarter 06.02.2009 01:53 PM

As far as I know, no kit. But a little innovation will lead you in the right path. Battery trays aren't hard to make, motor placement is pretty pre-determined, servo placement can be tweaked as well as ESC placement.

Do a search and look around for other combo's. Joe Ford of Castle has recently converted one if I'm not mistaken.

Here is a battery tray:

So all you need for the conversion is this tray and the motor mount nitrostarter linked to.

I also have a double-servo tray that i haven't listed yet, along with the 2 speed adapter and 2 speed gears if you wish to retain the 2 speed. i also made a single speed adapter that fits Revo/Jato spurs to the stock 2 speed shaft - again, I haven't listed these, as I have not had time to produce a batch yet. :)

can you make me a KIT

RC-Monster Mike 06.02.2009 08:43 PM

Yes, I suppose I could offer a kit easily enough. :)

Mike, this is what I called you about earlier...

Got your message this morning, Brian - thanks. :)

Mechanical break vs. ESC break

Hello,

I am working on a conversion for my kyosho gt2, and was wondering what the advantages are of using the mechanical break vs the break from the ESC? I have a mamba monster ESC.

nitrostarter 06.04.2009 09:57 AM

How fast are you planning to go?

Most use mechanical brakes when using the 2-speed since its a clutch-type operation, theres no way to apply effective motor brakes.
However, if using a regular center diff or spool in the center, motor brakes work great.

Also, depending on your Radio choice, theres also the choice to mix in both motor and mechanical brakes. For example, on the Airtronics M11, you can plug a mech brake servo in the 4th channel spot and mix it in specifically for braking uses only, to assist the motor in braking duties.

I just want to be able to beat the nitro guys on our parking lot track. I have a losi8 with 2200kv/ motor 15/45 and it was not quick enough. I just want my gt2 to be much faster. I have never had an on road car before with a 2speed. Where could I get a regular center diff that fits the gt2?

Thanks for your help!

RC-Monster Mike 06.04.2009 10:17 AM

The Losi8 with the 2200 combo can be volted and geared to beat the nitro guys pretty easily. A Kyosho diff will fit the GT and GT2, but you would need to space the driveshafts and use a buggy top plate. The IGT and IGT2 are basically 1/8 buggies with a 2 speed and car body.

atmhobby 06.04.2009 10:33 AM

Do you think I could go up to a 20/45 on my losi8? I will try the 2speed on the gt2 and see if I like it, and if it does not go well then maybe I can put in a single speed. My setup for the gt2 will be:
2200kv/ 15/21 7cell a123 @2300mah.

^^^ I second that notion. As of now, on 4s, it looks to be geared for about 45mph at the most. Most nitro on-roads are pushing well above that but their acceleration isn't nearly what you should have. With that said, you should be able to gear it up, especially running the 2200kv, to make up for those speeds and still have plenty of acceleration. You could probably gear it around 20/45 and beat up all over those nitro's. That would put you around the 58mph mark.
I don't know what size batteries you are using in the 8ight but you could definitely run 6s or 7sA123's.

Now, another suggestion I might throw in here is tires, if you're looking for a good tire to hold up at high speeds, pick up a set of Losi Rally premounts. They are amazing in traction and high speed runs.

You guys great, I can't wait to try this stuff out.

Yeah, I saw this, that thing is quick! I wonder what gears he used for that on the pinion?
That speed is way too much for me.

atmhobby 06.04.2009 12:30 PM

How fast do you guys think the GT2 would go with my setup?

Joe's car has INSANE gearing - I think i provided a 30t 2nd speed pinion(riding on a 40t spur!). Theoretically it would top out around 140+mph or so with a 2200Kv motor on 6s Lipo.

Yeah but Joe said he has to let the motor cool after every pass so it is only good for the speed chase, not ideal for the parking lot race\bash. But for the speed chase... /drool

Got my pinion gears today, do you guys just use blue or red locktite to keep the first gear on?

atmhobby 06.09.2009 10:49 AM

The servo plates ready yet?

No single servo plate, but nobody says you have to install both servos on the double servo tray. :)
