It's almost done now! Only need to get a motor and controller, wheels and a body.

Can't wait to test it.

Hope you like it

Serum 03.01.2005 05:12 AM

NICE!!!

What motor are you gonna drop in?

How much does the frame weights like this?

I love the construction of the revo!

Dafni 03.01.2005 06:05 AM

Hi Serum, glad you like it.
Ja, I also love the Revo setup.

I have no exact number, but I would guess it weights about the same as a stock E-maxx, if not even less. I'll check it when I have the chance. The weight distribution should be similar to the E, and the CG should be lower than the stock nitro RVO.

As for motors: I would love to get a Plettenberg Maxximum with fan, but this will have to wait until those new Castle controllers are available. I think Schulzes are way overpriced. So in the meantime I might get another Nemesis. I like to run my MT's on 14 cell, so the decision is obvious.
I still have an EVX and some old Titans lying around. This setup would give me a good idea on how it compares to the stock E.
But in the end it has to be BL, that's for sure. It's only a matter of time now. (and, there's still this horrible white stuff lying around here. I don't want my new baby to get wet on its first run)

I had to pic my jaw up off the floor when I saw that. That is the 2nd e-revo I have seen and its way better than the first. Excellent work, Dafni. Interested in possibly building another?

Dafni 03.01.2005 06:16 PM

:D Thanks, I like it alot, too.

Ja, Iīm already thinking of Version 2. The built up was so much fun, enjoyed every step.
Mind you, on the pics you hardly see the flaws:rolleyes:

With some help I could crank out a conversion kit, though.
But I would surely have to test it myself before. Melt, snow! Melt!

supermaxx 03.10.2005 03:40 PM

GREAT DAFNI!

I think you did a great job on that revo and the revo is much better brushless! I agree with you that the schulze controller are too expensive for what you get. I live in Holland and went on Holiday to Switzerland, how much snow is there at the moment?

Megazone23 03.10.2005 04:49 PM

HOLY MOLY! That's an awesome looking conversion, Dafni! Really clean, too -- of course I don't really know the insides of the Revo. At any rate, it all looks factory original to me.

Dafni 03.11.2005 05:31 AM

:D Thanks guys

Supermaxx, yeah, BLīs always better :L:
Snow is almost gone down here in the valley, too cool. I know from a dutch friend that you guys have exceptionally cold weather up there, right?
Well, I hope winter shoves off now.

I still have to paint a body for the Revo, but anything else should be more or less ready to go.

Thanks for the feedback

supermaxx 03.11.2005 05:57 AM

Last week it was very cold and alot of snow for our country!

You are in a valley, is there a good spot to drive?

Dafni 03.11.2005 07:35 AM

Oh, here itīs either up onna mountain, or down in the valleys. Not much of flat areas, as you might know.

Yeah, here are plenty of good bashing spots around. Gravel pits, wood, rock piles, whatever. But unfortunately thereīs no track in my area. Just the little 8-shaped track in front of my house, or in a nearby wood.

supermaxx 03.11.2005 07:39 AM

Yes, I know that that's why I asked you where to drive.

I also don't have a track in my area, I wish there was one, so you could compete with other trucks or friends, would be great!

Dafni 03.11.2005 01:31 PM

Ja. Same here.
But I donīt even have BL infected friends here, just some nitro smokers, and I donīt let them bash my house track.

supermaxx 03.11.2005 01:53 PM

No, I would do the samething.

You would probably beat them!

Dagger Thrasher 03.14.2005 01:36 PM

That looks great! Keep us updated, Ican't wait to hear how this thing performs.:D

supermaxx4190 03.17.2005 08:52 PM

did the tranny just bolt in?

EVANg 03.17.2005 09:21 PM

Do you guys have any nitro trucks or do you convert them all to electric??? Just kidding, nice truck Dafni

Dafni 03.23.2005 09:31 AM

Okay guys, here's a little picture up-date for you. Enjoy!

Dafni 03.23.2005 09:38 AM

Sorry for the multiple posts. Only way it worked.

Supermaxx: The tranny is almost a direct fit, just had to file off a few mm's.

Please post your comments and stuff.

Dagger Thrasher 03.23.2005 01:00 PM

Wow that looks great...good job! I love the paint job you did too.:D

Serum 03.23.2005 01:26 PM

Cool conversion mate!

How is the drivetrain holding up so far? (on how many runs?)

How much does it weight rtr?

I love the shocksetup on the revo! (and you electric conversion as well ofcourse.. ;) ... )

HotnCold 03.23.2005 01:33 PM

Hey Dafni - awesome build up - Here is one thing that I have encountered in my Maxx. Where the motor wires connect to the speed controller you are going to want to support the wires. Im my maxx from jumping/flipping the wires on the motor started to ever so slightly move up and down and over time they moved up and down and the coating on the wires wore away and the motor was shotski... Just a little info for all about supporting the wires from moving.....

Dafni 03.23.2005 02:14 PM

Thanks guys:)

HnC, you mean on the BL setup? Where the wires enter the 9918?

I have also thought about this. What about filing the gaps between the wire up with shoe-goo?? This will prevent dirt from getting in as well. (But also hinder air-flow over the heatsink)

What would be another suggestion?

Thanks for the info, mate.

Serum: The drivetrain mainly saw brushed power so far. The BL died on the second pack, as you might know.
So far no other issues, but I will beef up the center shafts 1/8 buggy-style.

I have no idea about the weight, but it is very similar to my maxx. Iīll weight it when I get the chance.
Without motor, wheels and batts, it is surprisingly light. When I checked and compared it to my maxx, I could have bet it is a tad lighter.

DAF

ozmatt 03.23.2005 03:05 PM

Yeah Baby!

Great idea, looks great from the shots, can't wait to see the weight of it, looks super professional. well done.

matt

Dafni 03.31.2005 09:33 AM

Okay, the Revoxx weights just a tad less than 9 pounds (4,5kg). RTR, with 14 GP's, the PL 40 Bowties and body. (9L/9918)

Is this good? I guess your race-Maxxes are lighter, right?
Anyhow, I think the motor has plenty of power for my truck, it accelerates quite fast.

What do you think?

Serum 03.31.2005 09:50 AM

that IS light!

No doubt.

Did you made a movie of her?

HotnCold 03.31.2005 04:01 PM

Re: supporting the motor wires. Dafni - Its hard to say where exactly this happened with my motor - however when you start jumping, and tumbling your revo - the motor wires will start moving up and down with the truck - this will over time break the covering on the windings and short them out - hence replace the motor - So if you would find some way to support the wires it would be beneficial to ya. As far as our race maxxes - Mine is a little over 9lbs - all aluminum, fully loaded with batteries and body - Some of Mikes are lighter  than that - LOL

Dafni 04.01.2005 09:38 AM

Now I see what you meant! The isolated windings on the motor. I thought you were talking about the wires on the controller.
Yes, I have also thought about how sensitive this strange isolation on those winding-leads looks.
I shortened the wires from the controller to the motor as much as possible, to reduce their mass.
But I might still consider something else, too. Just need to support those wires somehow.

So those Race maxxes are also 8+pounds?!
I'm always surprised on how light the Revoxx is without batts, wheels and BL combo. It's amazing.

HotnCold 04.01.2005 09:45 AM

Yeppers - RC-Monster Mikes has at least one that is in the 8 lb range with batts - I cant get my pig down below 9.4lbs lipo loaded..... As far as the wires are concerned - I used the body post off my terra crusher. It is a post on the bottom and gets bigger on top and has 3 holes in the top - which i use to individually hold each wire - I just drilled a hole in the chassis where i needed the support post - pre-tapped the bottom of the post and that is that - dosent move - and no wire movement - hope this helps ya....

Dafni 04.01.2005 09:48 AM

I will have a look at this on the weekend, thanks. I might come up with an alu part.

Speaking of weekends: I'm off home now, yay, it's 16pm here.:)

E-Maxxin_man 04.01.2005 07:07 PM

Wow, thats amazing. Looks just what traxxas will probably do, I bet they will evan use the maxx tranny like yours, knowing traxxas as they can never seem to move on( the 2.5 for like so many cars now)
Now if you put some 850 drill motors in it, thats probably the next production e-revo.

Dafni 04.01.2005 07:22 PM

Ja, thatīs what I think, too. So I enjoy the moment, itīs still unique:)

btw: it also hauls with the EVX/Titans, but I like the 9L better. But youīre right, if they go the e-revo way, they will come out with a brushed version, for the sake of affordability.

This truck looks so sleek, everybody who sees it says it looks factory built. I wonder how the Traxxas batt trays will look, though.

makaveli 04.27.2005 06:24 PM

wow youve just inspired me to do that to my revo . sweet design it nice and clean but im gonna get the single speed conversion when mike releases it so i can use duel steering servo instead of mounting the shift servo there

RC-Monster Mike 04.27.2005 06:43 PM

One good steering servo is all you need. I have dreamed of the e-revo myself. Some day!

HotnCold 04.27.2005 06:55 PM

Oh - Just run mine Sunday, Mike...

Dafni 04.28.2005 01:16 AM

What what?! I wanna see some pics, HnC, bring it on!

I agree with Mike, one good servo is enough. With a two servo setup, I would suggest two digital ones, this fighting for center is really annoying.
I am content with this single servo setup.

My truck runs great, btw, I love the slightly different handling compared to my E-Maxx, and since I had to replace the BL right at the beginning, I haven't had to touch one single screw. Amazing.

I just crafted a oneway front driveshaft, but haven't tested that one yet.

Next on my list is a nice fan mod to the controller.

rchippie 05.11.2005 01:44 AM

Dafni that looks awsome, im trying to get a revo roller to make brushless. That is the best revo conversion i have ever seen. How much would you charge to make the battery tray's and handle and ship them to the us ?. If you dont want to make them wouuld you mind if i copied your idea ?.thank's

Dafni 05.11.2005 01:50 AM

:D Thanks RChippie!

Those trays are easily made, just bend some alu. Feel free to rip off my design, I won't sue you :L:

In fact I am currently working on the second version, right from scratch. This time it will be even better.

LMK if you have questions or something.
