MaxAmps Green Series Battery

Wow it can handle 404A discharge!!!
You can fast charge it at 101A in 15 min!!!

http://www.maxamps.com/Life-6750-66-Pack.htm

LOL

lincpimp 06.24.2009 05:02 PM

I would like to see some discharge graphs... Holding breath... Starting to turn blue... S..t..i..l..l..w..a..i..t..i..n..g

(falls on ground stone dead)

Frozen72 06.24.2009 05:05 PM

Imagine what would happen if it was 100% legit. (I know I'm dreaming...) But what if...

lincpimp 06.24.2009 05:17 PM

Given maxamps recent battery upgrades the specs may be close. They do not discuss voltage drop, which is the bane of a123 cells (unless they are 2p min). I am sure maxamps prices will be way higher than they should be though, that will never change.

I just looked at their site while linked from this thread. The prices for their Traxxas 1/16 VXL packs are absolutely ridiculous!!!!

Here's a small comparison:
MaxAmps 1550mAh 2S 20C pack
$49.99

Hyperion 1600mAh 2S 25C pack
$23.95

MaxAmps 1550mAh 3S 20C pack
$74.99

Hyperion 1600mAh 3S 25C pack
$33.95

Either people buying these packs are just ill informed and moronic enough to believe the hype, or they have an extreme abudance of money to throw away.

Frozen72 06.24.2009 05:36 PM

And then the HobbyCity packs are half the price of the Hyperion packs...

Semi Pro 06.24.2009 05:36 PM

dont mean to be that guy, but isnt this old news, i though we were talking about this 2 weeks ago before the topic got taken away because of the MA haters

Semi Pro 06.24.2009 05:38 PM

also keep in mind its a 470gram 6.6v pack

that means it wouls be a 3lb 21v pack lol, you could run your current packs in 3p and have simalar weights and discharge

zeropointbug 06.24.2009 06:52 PM

Yes, we already discussed this... although 15C is technically possible, or at least A123 Systems released some ~5min charge graphs about a year ago or so... but NO charger out there can do this... I remember I did some quick calcs, and figured it would be just over the limit of one 15amp circuit breaker.

Until they have these chargers developed, which shouldn't take too much engineering know-how... 15C doesn't matter.

And what Linc said, of course A123 cells have alot higher voltage drop than a 30C lipo pack, it's just that A123's can handle it, it's simply a different type of battery chemistry. If Lipo packs were overrated like A123's, they wouldhave positive electrode Lithium metal plating... not good, they go puff, poof.

its amazing people still buy maxamps stuff. I remember when they were cheap and it was like well not the best but a good price. Then they kept going up in price. Now you can get great packs cheaper then there stuff.

$49 is crazy for a mini 2s pack. Wonder how my $13 hobbycity 2200mah 2s compares to theres though.

E-Revonut 06.24.2009 11:50 PM

I've already posted this a few times but.....Those 1550mah 2s packs have sky rocketed with the release of the vxl revo/slash! One year ago I bought mine for about $30-32. Even the 1600mah Nimh have skyrocketed as well, looked at them about 4 months ago and they where about $18-20

lincpimp 06.24.2009 11:54 PM

Supply and demand, when the demand goes up, the supply either dwindles, or the price goes up. At least we know what to buy!

+1 on graphs. words just don't help too much here.

MA need to get themselves clear on basic concepts, they claim
"60C Burst - 2670 surge watts(405 amps) "

My question is: 2670 watts TO THE LOAD ?? :rules: or even half of that number?

zeropointbug 06.25.2009 01:48 AM

Yah, you will never get that to the load (motor)... there is just too much voltage drop for a motor to suck the amps needed.

And what should also be noted, that even if you could charge at 15C rate, you won't be getting 1000+cycles from your pack.

These green packs, or a regular M1 A123 pack for that matter; should be considered a 15C/30C when comparing to your average lipo battery, performance wise. They can still handle the 30/60C ratings just fine however.

himalaya 06.25.2009 02:18 AM

Very true. looks like LiPo and LiFe have different definitions on C ratings ?

Good LiPos perform by holding 90% voltage under full C rated load.

LiFes(A123 and others) seem can just SURVIVE under that C rated current, no matter how much voltage left.

On another forum they did.But it turned the graph was from only one cell connected to tabs(no wires or connectors)

BrianG 06.25.2009 10:32 AM

That's good and bad. Good because it tests the actual cells without anomalies introduced by wires, connectors, etc. Bad because we use them in packs.

What site has the discharge graphs?

zeropointbug 06.25.2009 12:16 PM

I hope you guys know you can get lot's of graphs from A123Systems website...

I bought (2) 4s 8000mah M.A. packs 2 yrs ago @ $239.00 each !
Now they want $399.99 each !
There Lipo's should have a complimentry BJ for that $$$ ?

Frozen72 06.25.2009 12:44 PM

Yea they do have some nice looking models... or maybe that is a different website.

A123 graphs can be used as reference, but they don't represent the Chinese flat pack LiFe cells in these MA packs.

zeropointbug 06.26.2009 11:56 AM

Well yah, that's true of course. I would like to find out who is making them, and what the wholesale cost is...

BrianG 06.26.2009 12:04 PM

I'm too lazy to read the whole thread, but does MA have exclusive rights to these LiFe cells, or will other companies start selling/distributing them as well? I wouldn't mind some new Li packs, but not at crazy prices...

zeropointbug 06.26.2009 12:57 PM

Know doubt, way overpriced for a LiFe pack. They are intrinsically cheaper to make...

These would be awesome in a full scale electric car, or motorcycle conversion.

Also, if anyone is wondering why they are called greeen series, it's because LiFePo chemistry is supposedly significantly cleaner in manufacturing... IIRC, something about one of the elements in Lipo cells, can't remember which though.

lincpimp 06.26.2009 01:25 PM

Probably dilitium crystals. They are getting harder to come by as the romulans are stealing them to build warp cores. At least that is what I read in scientific american, sounded a bit bogus to me. I have a feeling grean peace are snapping them up in order to go back to 1985 to save the whales. I really think Obama should do something about this. He is the big cheese after all.

zeropointbug 06.26.2009 01:51 PM

LOL

Obama can suck it...

zeropointbug 06.26.2009 01:55 PM

LOL holy....

nitrostarter 06.26.2009 02:30 PM

Nah, Obama should just stick to traveling the globe and continue to make America look like a giant vagina for being the only country with a stick big enough to swing back in the day. For some reason we must apologize for that... He's getting pretty good at the breaking promises of creating thousands of jobs and ending the rise in unemployment the spendulous plan was supposed to stop. And speaking of spending, how much of a deficit and debt will my I and my children be in now because of his spending? And he's also taking a liking to killing innocent, unborn babies that his welfare check recievers dont want too.

I think we should let Al Gore continue the green movement of climate change green r/c batteries. Maybe he can get to this after he invents a newer version of the internet, maybe a "greener" one... LOL

BrianG 06.26.2009 02:45 PM

I think Obama (and the US in general) should stop poking our noses in everyone else's business. We should concentrate our resources here, create jobs that makes us less dependant on other countries for goods (anyone notice that the US hardly actually makes anything? We are pretty much just a service-oriented country), and mind our own business. And if/when some upstart pissant country threatens us, we reach over, smash them, and then continue on with our business. It's amazing to me to hear "the UN this" and "the UN that", but the US seems to be the primary country who enjoys meddling in other people's affairs. And while we're at it, close our F****ng borders! No more freeloading immigrants sucking the system that responsible taxpayers pay for.

Argg! I hear a whisper of politics and get so worked up. I need a cigarette now...

Thanks Brian I didn't know how you felt about me... ;)

Guess I can't really call myself free loading with the amount of tax i pay

BrianG 06.26.2009 02:54 PM

Then you aren't a freeloader are you? Paying taxes puts you in the "responsible taxpayers" category.

Arct1k 06.26.2009 02:59 PM

How about be-gruding taxpayer - I pay UK, Federal, NY and NJ taxes...

BrianG 06.26.2009 03:01 PM

lol, you can add any adjective you want.

nitrostarter 06.26.2009 03:03 PM

Thank you BG! Now if we could only educate that 64% of America that voted the dumbass in, we could make some real changes for the better!

Although his approval ratings ARE dropping regardless how the mainstream, drive-by media shows it. His own people are starting to realize he's not doing them a damn thing he promised when he got elected in.

Maybe if he would focus on our countries problems and needs and get back to how our forefathers envisioned and created our government to be, people would like him. But thats not the over spending, power loving way of the democratic party of today.

And Miss Crocked Finger Pelosi needs to stay her ass in Washington as well. No need for he to be begging the Military for rides all over the country and world just for her to open her mouth and "I'm stupid" to come flying out. O wait, maybe she should challenge the CIA and other agencies and call them liars... Or just maybe she should just push Obama out the way and run the country into a hole like she's already doing.

And speaking of responsible taxpayers, why the hell are we paying for all the damn non-sense thats going on? I can't tell you how many tax notices I've gotten at work on people's behalf from the IRS stating that the IRS has changed their returns and they are getting less money back... First we hahave to pay too much, then when we actually pay it and report our incomes, they say we didn't pay enough and is keeping our refund... WTF?

Thank you non-educated, first-time voting, kool-aid drinking, "Green" dumbasses of America that wanted "CHANGE." Is this enough change for you? Is trillions of dollars in debt enough change? Is America becoming the twat of the globe enough change for you? Is a dead economy enough for you?

..now its Miller time for me!

BrianG 06.26.2009 03:18 PM

lol, and I though I was worked up!

sokmeister 06.26.2009 03:52 PM

hehehee....funny but spot on!!!

scarletboa 06.26.2009 04:00 PM

careful what you say......it's only a matter of time before our freedom of speech is gone too.

lincpimp 06.26.2009 04:01 PM

C'mon Cory, tell us how you REALLY feel!

I like the Miller time part, sounds good to me.

And I really like the kool aid part, that was so true.

zeropointbug 06.26.2009 04:09 PM

Obama, Bush, McCain, Gore.... guys, they are ALL the same ppl, in the same bed, same boat, with the same agenda.... and that agenda has been to strip your freedoms away, take your money (illegally btw), and destroy your health (think about fast foods, tv dinners, the shit health-care-(destruction) system)....

I must have you guys know that you do NOT have to pay income tax! There is no law, NO law, or anything that states you have to pay it! It is an illegal, apportioned, unregulated tax that goes against your constitution... and besides that, it does not even go yo anything useful!!! You don't see anything from it!

The federal reserve knows this, they created the system ~80 years ago at the dawn of the dirty 30's.... it is a DEBT society, and you can NOT get out of the debt, it is impossible to do so. As the federal reserve has to create more money into the system (out of thin air mind you!) to pay off the debt, and SINCE it is lowned AT interest, so the central bank has to perpetually lown out money at interest, WHICH CREATES EVEN MORE DEBT!!! It is a system of slavery!

DEBT = SLAVERY

You guys should watch a documentary such as "Zeitgeist"
