Hyper ST Brushless conversion!
I brought a Hyper ST Pro roller last week( Minus Centre Cvds and Spiderdiff) for $250AUD which i'm very happy with.
So today i go on to making my own motor mount(I don't want to spend money on the RCM mount if i can) and it took me a few hours to perfect it and i'm quite happy with the final result apart from it has a slight amount of flex, but does that matter? I plan on running a 70mm 2300 medusa with a MMM on 4s when i get the funds. Pics of todays progress: Yes that motor has no shaft as i dropped it last night and it broke off which i'm not too happy about! http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/IMG_0284.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/IMG_0285.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/IMG_0286.jpg The mount still needs sanding and polishing but apart from that it's pretty much done. |
NIce mount, and the motor shaft is definately an "oops" moment, what Esc and batteries do you plan on running?
|
Flex in motor mount matters - Ask Ben (b16)...
You will just chew up your spur and pinion / Worst case you will break your motor shaft... |
Well today i made a new mount out of 50mm aluminium angle and im impressed with it. Best thing is it flexes 0%
Pic's to follow tomorrow. |
All it needs now is a MMM Combo, 4s zippy and a Nice radio.
Pics: http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/IMG_4325.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/IMG_4326.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/IMG_4327.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...IMG_0300-1.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/IMG_0298.jpg |
The mount seems somewhat far from the spur. Are you sure you won't have any problems with the pinion reaching the spur? Even though some pinion gears are pretty long, I prefer to not have the pinion overhang (extend further than) the end of the motor shaft.
Since you have machining capability, why not machine a mount that replaces the rear center diff bulkhead like RCM mounts? |
Hmm, i don't think so. I put a pinion i had laying around which is very close to 1 mod where the motor shaft should be and it reaches easily.
I see that Tekno stock a range of "long" pinions which are double hardened. They seem like the way to go. It just takes so long to measure, drill, tap, file, cut, sand and polish to make another mount. If this one doesn't work the next step is the RCM mount. |
Well its been a while and i still haven't got everything i need.
Today i paid for a Spektrum DX2.0 with reciever and two servos for only $150 Aud and this thing is brand new so im pretty stoked about that. Next thing to get will be a Motor and ESC Combo but i cant decide which combo i want, its a toss up between the MMM 2200kv combo and the Tekin RX8 Combo. Could someone please tell me which one would be a better choice and why? Pros and cons. Cheers |
Hey
Hey Mystro ,good to see your making some progress with the truggy .....its looking good.I'd go with the MMM 2200kv set up .its a proven set-up and works very well .
cheers jas |
I'd go with the 2200 combo as well. Looking good, but you'll get some gear mesh probs when the chassis flexes leading to a chewed pinion/spur and some metal shavings, which are super fun to clean up..
|
The Monster looks like its the way to go. I have heard from a mate that the MMM doesn't really like "cheap" batteries and the zippys wont really cut it....whats another good brand Lipo that wont put me out of pocket?
Bl RVO: I don't know what you mean about having chassis flex because the Hyper St pro's shassis is very stiff...? |

Look into the 5000mah 25-30c turnigy packs. |
What center diff did you use? (you mentioned it came w/o the spider diff)
what tooth was the center spur? Thanks! |
Im using the standard 52t diff.
|
Also, what diff oil would you use in the centre diff?
|
I put ofna diff lock lube in my center diffs. I only bash, it works well for me. Lots of wheelies and no unloading to the front.
|
All vehicles have chassis flex.

Haha. The way i have made my "new" mount it wont flex at all. I will post some pictures up soon.
|
Pictures:
Obviously the right one http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/Photo134.jpg http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/Photo131.jpg Close to the spur to ensure my motor shaft wont break too easily http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/f...o/Photo132.jpg |
the mount looks shiny!! I like!
but, I wonder if just two screws are stable enough. you should also have a connection to the center diff. what about combining the first and the second mount? that's what I mean: http://s5.directupload.net/images/090830/usfrh336.jpg http://s2.directupload.net/images/090830/cimu6esw.jpg since my mount is built like that, I have no problems with spur gear etc. I really like that hyper st, one day I will get myself one too. flo |
Cheers mate.
The mount is very stiff! The only thing that might happen is the screws might snap, but i will just add two more holes and screws then. P.S Your pictures don't work. |
Well today i brought a Mamba Monster off tower with a few other items such as Pinions, battery straps etc...
Now the wait begins until these things get here. Cant wait!! |
:yipi:

I'm thinking of running 5s but i haven't really decided which brand of battery yet. The turnigy's look really nice but from what i have heard about the zippys killing MMM's i don't really know if i want to.
|
WTF.........never heard of a battery killing a MMM speedy or any other speedy for that matter................
How did the Zippy battery kill the speedy??????? Quote:
|
Yes its true. Even Castle even said it.
|
Yeah, I read something about this a while back. Could just be that SO many more people are running zippy's and maxamps more than anyone else, so there are more failures per that brand of battery. Castle then would think that the problems are battery-related, as maxamps and zippy packs are both on the list for "killing" MMMs. Just a thought.
|
Maxamps Really? They are meant to be top end batteries aren't they...?
|
They are PRICED like top-qual batteries but in fact are extremely low quality.
|
Well i'm going to give this one a go http://hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store..._30C_Lipo_Pack
What are your thoughts? |
you can get the 20c pack for 49.99 there a steal. and 20c is more then enough
|
No, 20c is too low methinks. Castle recommends at least 25c and over.
|
psht! unless your geared for 50+ 20c is just fine. the whole voltage ripple thing isnt a solid excuse imo. im geared for 44 mph and my 20c batteries come off @ 90 degrees after hard racing
|
I assume that's 90F.
90C is waaaaayyyy too high. Where are you located Mystro? What state? I have been running 5S Zippy packs for ages & had no issues, apart from the usual MM related issues in the beginning which we all had. Since then, no probs at all with ESC, but, I have killed 3 of my 5 packs. I've gone back to 2 x 2s 5000mAh 40C packs to make a 4S. Works awesomely!! Can you say wheelies on command with a truggy? |
I'm in Australia, Tasmania.
I would rather spend the extra money to get the extra 10c just to be safe anyway. I'm also following castles advise which cant hurt. |
Ahhhh, ok.
I'm in Melb & work 2 days a week for my mate at RCGarage, hence the reason for the D8T. Keep up the good work. BL truggy & buggy has just been sanctioned in Aust for the titles. Not that I'm going to race anymore, but, you never know. |
its your option, i wouldnt be suprised if they are the same packs with different stickers! lol
|
I wish i lived up the top end of tassie, then i could race with the NWRCCC boys.
Big greg: Its better to be safe than sorry. What RCs do you run? |
losi 8 buggy. MMM tekin 2250 truggy motor 4-5s
losi 8t 2.0 MMM tekin 1550 5s sometimes 4s running all zippy batteries besides 2, i have 2 5s 5000 turnigy 20c, 2 4s 5000 turnigy 20c, 1 flightmax 5s 5000 20c, 1 4s 4800 zippy-r 25c, 1 4s 4900 rhino 20c, 4s 6000 polyquest 25c, and a 5s 4500 flightpower 30c. wow thats alot of lipos! but anyway the zippies outperform my 2 expensive packs! crazy i know |
