Got bored at work yesterday...

So most of you know that I own an auto body and paint shop. Well my painter had the week off last week so I had to do his job (and my own job) and kinda got in a painting mood. His bus was late yesterday so I had to paint a few things, and found myself waiting for the paint to dry. So i scared up a boat I had laying around and started to do a little custom paint job.

Used an audi green, mustang chrome yellow with added yellow pearl, and some good ole ford oxford white. I had some undetermined silver metallic laying around, so I gave that a try for the tiki dudes! Bamboo and tiki dudes were done with stencils, the color breaks were freehand with fineline tape. Not too bad for a rush job...

Nice job! How late was your painter? Can you post a more pics of that left hand? Maybe a few with the fingers spread wide open.

Thanks, he showed up this morning, did not get back into town till 7pm. Go Greyhound!

You are sick, why do you want me to take a pic of my hand? You hand porn guys are getting a little out of hand (no pun intended).

It'll look even better if you throw some Blue after the Yellow.

That looks awesome. Made the switch to water born paint yet? My buddy recently had to at his work and he hates it, but nobody likes change.

Very nice work James.

That's beauty man, did you do the design yourself?

Someone must have done a real job on you 'hand' guys, some sort of 'handjob'...

magman 07.14.2009 06:54 PM

Exceptional for a rush job

Luckily I am in LA, the armpit of the US, we will most likely not have to change over for a while... No real epa activity here.

HARHAR

I did the the "wave" design where the color changes freehand with fineline tape, the bamboo and tiki dudes were stencils that I sprayed thru.

I forgot to mention. Don't forget the stars, there should be 5 of them .

Edit: If you need help, look at my Avatar for the colors.

I had a feeling it had something to do with Brazil... I can do a themed boat, you just need to send me some pics or images, or logos or something that represents the country, other than the flag!

PBO 07.15.2009 12:43 AM

What brand of paint do you normally work with linc?

lincpimp 07.15.2009 12:44 AM

I use basf r&m polyester basecoat, and the basf limco clearcoat line. This boat has some off brand clear on it, as it was free!

PBO 07.15.2009 12:49 AM

I work with boats and we use auto paints at times because they're generally more bullet proof when the weather doesn't want to behave! Never used basf though, usually Glasurit...heard of that? Great for painting masts & alloy boats

The paint scheme you have on your boat now is something I would do, but with blue after the yellow and 5 green stars under the white paint as we only have 5 World Cups you know  :yipi:. I have some car bodies I will paint, but I might wait until next year to see if the number of stars will change .

BASF is the parent company for R&M and Glasurit. The basecoat I use is identical to Glasurit 55 line. Glasurit is more expensive than R&M, that is for sure. Good products, especially for the price.

what type of boat is that and what do u run in it? i have a spare 1515 1y laying around and have plenty of smooth water right at my back yard but my motor is finned and dont think thats the best thing to use and i bought a 80mm 2000kv medusa to run in my muggy till i find a 1521 1y. i think the medusa would be a good motor with a water jacket.ive been looking at boats in the 30" range and was wondering what a good affordable setup would be but also fast as the water is like glass most of the time and plenty of room to run.

nitrostarter 08.29.2009 06:56 PM

That boat is about 15" long, and made for a 380 sized motor. Nothing more than 25-30mph...

A couple boaters have been experimenting with the Medusa with great results.

I have a TC31 cat hull for sale if you are interested. 32" cat
