Who would be interested in 17mm adapters for the crt.5?!?!?
Alright so I went about this with Rob Forsberg @ wheel extensions and bottom line is I will never deal with that guy again.
BUT... I just contacted Jamie from FLM (also contacted mike so we'll see, might have competition lol) and he said he will do a short run of crt.5 adapters so we can run 17mm tires. I told him to make the entire adapter about one inch, so that it will help account for the zero offset of buggy wheel.s The .5 needs all the width/length it can get (in my eyes) so this should make the 0 offset wheels closer to "half" offset wheels (actually a little wider, since most buggy wheels are about 1.7 wide). He is going to email me on the date of availability and the price so I will post those here. This is a short test run...so they may not be made again. If your interested, get some now!! Mike |
I'm interested...tired of blowing 12mm hexes.
|
cool..I told him I could probably find an easy 6 including myself. It really should be easy for him to do...use the rustler or slash 17mm adaptor but just bore the axle hole slightly smaller to make sure it fits snug on the crt.5 axle.
I think once he sees the first few sets flying off the shelf he will stock them on the site! The crt.5 NEEDS 1/8 buggy tires! They offer the best tire/wheel combo's (imo) for the crt.5! |
Word. I talked to mike about that a while ago... I'm sure they would sell. Count me in for a set.
|
Email Jamie at FLM - He's making them for the stampede he just has to drill out the centre hole less...
|
Assuming these will also fit on the mini ste I'll take a pair!

+1 if price is`good

I'm also in for 2 pairs
|
I might pick up a pair. Im supposed to be picking up a Jammin .5 today. Anybody have any pics of what the buggy wheels look like on one?
|
Cool guys...im glad I wasnt lying to Jamie when I said there was a market for them :)
I talked to Mike as well and he knows Jamie is taking care of it (since its as easy as boring the axle hole slightly smaller on the adapters Jamie already makes). I am not sure if Jamie is intending to distribute these, or sell them directly (since its a test batch) but I will suggest he sends them to Mike to sell since this forum rocks and that is where probably 75%+ of the interest has come from. I will update you guys when Jamie emails me back on price and time frame of availability. Sorry I dont have a pic of the crt.5 on buggy wheels but I will do my best to snap one of the crt.5 chassis with the axles sitting inside the buggy wheels just for reference. |
+1
I would be interested as well if the price is right. It would be great to have all my 1/8th buggy wheels and tires available for my crt.5. I think it's really important that they extend the wheel hubs out as wide as possible to take into account 0 offset buggy wheels, especially for those of us that use Mike's conversion kit with the extra long chassis. I currently use HPI 1/10 truck wheels because they are offset quite a bit and it gives the crt.5 a wider stance. I'm not sure I would give up a wider stance in exchange for buggy tires. |
Dont worry Nougat Ive got it covered. I have two crt.5's both with Mikes chassis and its dying for some width.
I told him I want 1" of extension PER side (total of two inces wider). This would make it another almost half inch wider than running "half" offset wheels. So even with 0 offset buggy wheels it will be wide. I didnt want to go any more than 1" on them as I think the bearings/axles will wear prematurely with that much leverage on them. |

Keep us updated on them. I just picked up mt .5 today and want to put some buggy wheels on it.
|
He emailed me back and they will be the same price as their other adapters (which makes sense) which is $36.00. I have seen the FLM adapters for the slash and they are top quality.
I asked about the date they will be available and where the first sets will be available (whether it will be direct from FLM, or through Mike here at the RCM store). |
Hmm, I'd rather don't have too much offset in the hubs and use Mikes extended arms instead. Don't like those extended hubs too much, they mess up the geometry and stress the knuckle bearings.
|
Ya well the extended arms are nice...but I dont have 200 to spend on a-arms when I have spent less than that on each of my brushless crt.5's (with mikes chassis on them).
Plus even with mikes arms you cant run 17mm so you would still need adapters. So all in all I would rather spend 36 on 4 adapters (possibly a few bucks on bearings or suspension parts over time) than 200+ 36 for some custom 17mm adapters. |
all I'd want is enough offset to compensate the buggy's offset vs the stock rim offset.
|
Just for reference on what it would look like with 1/8th wheels and tires here is mine with some adapters for a Slash. The hole in them are a little big like everybody else has been saying and with the slash adapter the offset is different from front to back. But I think it looks pretty cool with the 1/8 stuff. I really like it and I will definitely pick up a set.

OK thats got me convinced - in for a set...
|
No to sound like a wet weekend, but why not just get an 1/8 buggy remove the dirt guards and slap a 10th scale truck body on it, with a smaller wing? All the benefits of the stretched, widened crt.5, but with much stronger arms, hubs, servo saver, diffs... Plus it would be half the cost, or less...
|
Those was my thoughts from the beginning...
Everyone seems to be buying the tiny 'ole CRT .5's and putting a longer chassis and extended arms. At that point it's a whole different truck. I've decided to keep the stock arms, as I like the look better. Not to mention the cost of the new chassis and arms are more than the original kit was! However, I think some 1/8 buggy tires would work well and would present a nice choice of rims and tires. But I don't want too much off set from the hubs alone. I think only enough to make the wheels sit nicely on the truck (not too far in but not too far out). |
I had a few crt.5s one with mikes chassis and an original swb ofna setup. Did not really like either. I now have a hyper ste and it is much better, IMO. I am also running 2s lipo and a decent motor, which does make a difference. Much lighter and handles better with the stock wheels and tires. I even have a set of bandit anacondas to run on the street!
|
In reality its still not as big as a buggy - more of a 1/10th truggy...
|
Personally I'm keeping mine stock chassis. Mike's kit is really nice, but I agree that you can end up spending way more $$ trying to make it something its not. (IMO sorta like a Gmaxx vs a truggy, but everybody's got their thing)
I would like a more modest offset as well. Something that ends up like a 1/2 offset, or at least enough that the tires won't rub the body on a full turn. would like to have the choices of the buggy tires (hell I put M2Ks on mine for bashing) $36 is for a set of 4 right? |
Yes thats 36 for all 4 :)

Any updates? Any time frame on when we should expect them?
|
Just got an email back from Jamie and he is waiting on the proper reamer to do the axle holes.
He said he will be sending me a set for testing as soon as he gets it done so I will be sure to report back here :) |
by "sending you a set for testing" does that mean free? if so, I want in on the testing too!
|
Ill test the hell out of them for him. lol
|
Well im not paying him to test them. Whether or not I get to keep them at the end of testing is unknown. I would imagine he does not need more than one "tester" since his product is already well known (their adapters/extensions) I am simply making sure they fit on the axle properly so there is no play in them.
Ill let you guys know. |
Think of it this way. If he uses 1 tester, and his product fails just once, thats a 0% success rate. if he sends me a set too, and yours fails, thats a 50% success rate, which is a big improvement from 0 percent if you ask me.
|
You don't even have a CRT .5!
|
o'contraire Chris....
