Raffle idea?
Just throwing this out there, but I was thinking if it would be a good idea to have a raffle here? Everyone who wants to participate can paypal whoever organizes it, and once a month, a raffle is drawn for the winner.
The prize can be an RCM gift certificate for the total amount collected (minus Paypal fees). A lot of people can easily spare $5-$10 bucks, so this would be a way to help Mike out by increasing sales and give the lucky winners something for their raffle entrie(s). Comments? Good idea? Bad idea? Edit: Oh, and before this gets too serious, I'd have to OK this with Mike. I just want to get a feel for how many people would be in favor of this before I bother the busy cyclops. |
Great idea ! I'm all for it.

I'm in as well...great idea Brian

I never win anything - so whoever does end up winning, you can thank me later for my contribution to your rc collection!

Landslide?

Isn't a raffle a type of gambling? therefore would require a license to host one?
|
Another interesting point...

Are we going to put X amt of names in a hat and pick one at random, so you can but as many places as you want for $5 each or just 1 entry?
|
I was envisioning an entry for each $5 you put in.
|
I'm in. Instead of $5 you could make it 5 "points" and maybe get around the license thing.
|
On the gambling point, there was a raffle going on another message board, I frequent. Paypal however somehow figured it out, that it was for a raffle, and forced the payment returned, or suspension of the account. They ended up selling forum stickers, for $5 each, and that auto put you in the raffle. That way you did pay for something.

Call it a pool of funds, every donater gets their turn to realise some benefit...you're just doing some longer term RC investing...

this would give the people with more pocket change a unfair advantage.....unless I don't know how gambling works? (I don't gamble) |
I can setup a PP account again...

Considering
Considering how alot of you responded with I never win anything, we can just call it a donation. That is not gambling. I'm in Brian, but I gave up on using Paypal so I would have to have our bank BoA send you a check for my DONATION. Sounds like a good idea to me, and the RCM gift certificate is something that all of us could use somehow.
|
I'm in. I honestly don't think it will be very hard at all to get around the raffle license. Just simply say you're buying something from them as someone mentioned earlier in the thread...
|
Lets do it.
|
The only problem I see is this: everybody wants to do this raffle, which means nobody will want to host it, since that would make them ineligible to win, unless there is some sort of online raffle service that is controlled by someone outside of RCM so that even though one person from RCM is in control of the paypal account, they are not in control of choosing who's the winner.
Other than that, I'm all for it! |
I'll host and i don;t care for winning - I'll use a random num generator...
|
A word to the wise- if you send the money as a gift under the "personal" tab there are no fees.
|
sounds like a good plan, how about lets limit it to one entry per person per raffle that way its always equal no matter what.... ill send my "donation" shortly. when will a name be drawn? end of july?
and was it ok'd with the monster? |
I think we should ask Mike before this goes forward. And maybe a post outlining the complete terms.
|
FYI I'd prefer a 50:50 or 75:25 where some goes to charity
|
i think it would be cool but needs to be thoughtfully planned as i can see alot of people participating and raising a pretty big pot real fast, perhaps multiple prizes each drawing to spread the wealth and keep fun with more people winning stuff.

Back when Katrina hit the pizza shop did a charity day where ALL PROCEDES, not just profits, where donated. The Owner hadn't decided what charity until after, or at least didn't tell anyone. He said to hell with helping people that are all about themselves, lazy, or whatever. He wanted to make sure this donation really helped. We wound up bringing in about $2100 for the day, a Sunday that would normally be less than 1/2 that. The procedes along with his own donation added up to a $3000 to the Houston ASPCA, the shelter where most of the abandoned animals went! Just my $.02 but I say we help the helpless, the animals! I'm not saying that there aren't charities out there with a good cause to help humans that serve a purpose on earth but the animals are my choice. |
i agree with the animal thing those abused and neglected animal commercials realy do hit the soft spot for me.

I like the idea. But there should be something like 50 (or 100/200/300 if there a so many people interested in it) numbers which people can buy. (One per person per raffle)
And there should be 3 gift cirtaficates to win. For example: The first one 200$, second one 100$, and third one 50$. Or something like that... |
Let's keep it simple. The original idea would do for me. If we must do a charity, I say kids over animals. Regardless how you feel about welfare, drug addict etc, kids do not have a choice to whom they are born.
Also I have no problem if the person running it participates. To me this would be more like an office pool plus to most it's only $5. |
I think the 50:50 or 75:25 idea is a pretty good one and can save our butts from any types of consequences...

I'm in for sure..!!

Why not consider keeping it simple this first run and if the participation is enough to warrant a charity contribution then there will be a (hopefully) a sizable amount to give ?
|
I say we should donate to help animals on every other raffle and help kids on every other one.

And as far as using "gift" for PP so they don't charge the fee: I wonder if they will catch on if so many people are contributing "gifts" in $5 increments? |
