G3R - What trans ?????

Hello

First off let me say that I have enjoyed soaking up all kinds of advice and knowledge since I've been on this forum.

My Q's are

I bought a new E-Revo and a new Gorilla Maxx G3R kit, assembly went fine, now I need a transmission.

1st - What was the trans that Gorilla Maxx designed this thing for, from what i have read you need to modify the stock e-revo trans??

2nd - The Trans from Fast Lane is for the E-Maxx which is fine but then I read that you must use a "mod output shaft" not sure what this is and there is nothing on there website called mod output

And then what about drive shafts sounds like those need to be swapped out as well

Just want a solid trans, price doesn't matter but cant seem to find the clear solution with part #'s and manufacture names of each peace.

Sorry for the long post just getting anxious to get this thing moving.

It was designed for the original e-maxx trans.

The only mod required to this trans is the steel idler and locking the trans into 2nd which is very simple to do...

Screw that, cheat:

http://cgi.ebay.com/TRAXXAS-E-MAXX-S...3A1%7C294%3A50

Needs a steel idler sold by rc-monster, but the input shaft is already modified (shortend).

Says its a custom single speed. Doesn't look like a gorillamaxx single speed. The colour balance is all off on the picture though, so that could be deceiving. Wonder what it looks like on the other side :oh:

How much modding does it take to get my E-Revo trans in there, this sounds like the cheapest solution. And thne which drive shafts would I need?

It wont fit, and you cant buy the adaptors anymore- you would need to mess up your X-braces.

The thing is though, GorillaMaxx designed the G2/3R chassis as the first electric conversion for the Revo, so it uses the only electric model based tranny that was available at the time, the 3906 one (as the x-braces are the same between the G3 and G3R).

Traxxas then bought out the Erevo a few years later, so the G2/3R is basically redundant in effect.

If you want to make a G3R, you have to use an old emaxx tranny basically, and the one I linked to on fleebay would be your easiest option infact.

Doesn't make sense though...
Why is there still a G4-chassis?
And why were there G1/2/3-chassis before that?
The E-maxx always was a electric truck, so there never was need for an electric conversion but Gorillamaxx built them anyways and still do.
I don't know how Gorillamaxx got the idea that a chassis for the E-Revo is redundant but a chassis for the E-Maxx and now the Slash is not, but I know they have a huge hole in their logic

@duramax66: If you were living in Germany or nearby, like Austria or Switzerland I could sell you my tranny with G-Maxx single gear conversion and G-Maxx single motormount (no steel idler though), but otherwise shippingcosts make this too expensive...

Tranny Adapter Bottom of the page.

G4 = emaxx & 3905 tranny.

G3r = revo & 3906 tranny.

If people beg them enough, GorillaMaxx may make a G4R, a revo chassis that uses the 3905 type tranny; I heard they have one in development, but it could end up being like the MMM was many years back- a myth that no one believed would ever materialize...

The first gorillamaxx chassis didnt have a number as such, it was just a GorillaMaxx low CoG chassis. It wasnt about converting a tmaxx to electric, it was about offering a much better and more raceable chassis for the maxx platform- same reason there are so many tmaxx chassis designs out there for sale. Then there was the G2, then the G3, which both use the 3906 tranny. The G4 uses the 3905 tranny.

The first revo gorillamaxx chassis was the G2r, which was basically the G2 with different front and rear plates to attach to the revo bulkheads- it was designed with the help of RC-Monster members and beta tested to get it perfect, before releasing it for sale (RC-Monster is the home of electric conversions afterall...).

The G3r is to the G2r what the G3 is to the G2- same chassis designs, just a few tweaks and thicker material to improve stiffness.

So you see, it makes perfect sense, when you know the full history...

I saw adapters in the store neil. I am not sure if they are the right ones though. too late

suicideneil 07.24.2009 06:52 AM

Hmm, it is the 2nd item down on page 5 of the FLM parts, but there is no link to it's actual page/info, though it does register as instock- interesting...

Gallagher 07.27.2009 12:47 AM

I would like to know is there any benefit to switch from G1 single speed (already out of stock, IIRC.)to 3905 transmission? Lower CG? However the adapter will gain some CG. height. Better slipper clutch? Yes, I think it is better unless with the modification of G1 with Revo-spec slipper. Any other else?
I have a G3R, too. I am thinking about the upgrade of the transmission.

suicideneil 07.27.2009 08:44 AM

Using the central motor mounting posistion on the 3905 tranny, I dont think theres any improvement in the CoG, but using the offset posistion would bring the motor right down low for sure, albeit to one side. The tranny gears are beefier, and the slipper is better (I use that word with a touch of cynicism as my 3905 slipper conversion broke when I tightened it up- the slipper pad holder just snapped because its cheap pot metal), but I dont think theres too much to be gained from switching over trannies really...

Arct1k 07.27.2009 10:27 AM

I had the full centre diff fitted by mike - its a PITA to actually fit... He has no jog for the chassis so it takes him a couple of hours to pit...

I'll post up some pics later

You should try to get the g-maxx 2nd gear conversion kit and 1 ue idler. If your going to lock it in second you only need 1 steel idler any way.

duramax66 07.31.2009 05:12 PM

OK I got all my goodies in the mail and everything looks good, but since the single speed conversion is still out of stock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to figure out how to lock this in 2nd gear. Anyone have any pics or instructions on this mod.

Thanks in advance:neutral:
