Fun while it lasted... Guess we all will go back to neu and tekin motors...

sikeston34m 07.27.2009 07:00 PM

I really hate to see this happen. I know times are hard though, but they were very competitive.

Ok, so who's gonna sell me a Medusa 36-80-2000kv now?

magman 07.27.2009 07:00 PM

too bad...they made good motors for our applications

nitrostarter 07.27.2009 07:31 PM

They couldnt keep up I guess...

Metallover 07.27.2009 07:41 PM

That sucks. They couldn't just raise their prices or thin out their product line? I hope a new company pops up so there is a low priced alternative to neu and german motors like medusa was...

suicideneil 07.27.2009 08:22 PM

Bollocks, thats rather annoying.

And most of the good stuff is already sold out (including the 80mm 2200kv motors as I just discovered).

Its a damn shame, but atleast Castle have the MMM2200kv, and the upcoming 1800kv larger version.

Still sucks though, really put a damper on my mood...

Metallover 07.27.2009 08:45 PM

I wonder if a medusa rep could chime in and let us know the story. Hopefully castle or someone can step up and make a strong, fast, 4-pole, slotted, cheap motor like the good ole medusas.

E-Revonut 07.27.2009 08:53 PM

:cry:This sucks! Guess I'll def be holding on to my 70mm 1600kv, good backup for my 1515 2.5D. It's hard to justify $260 for a motor let alone another $260 for a spare, the $125 that I spent on the Medusa was well spent. The motor worked great in my Revo so I will keep it packed away. I also hope my 36-50-4800 holds up for a long time in mt CRT.5 cause I won't cheap out on a HC motor and even though the smaller Neus are cheaper they still cost more than the Medusas.

You've felt the power of the Medusa, haven't you?

In fact, on the desk here in front of me, is the Medusa 36-60-2000kv that you once owned.

I just got it a few days ago. Remember, it being sent in for repair?

As a testament to Medusa's GREAT service, they did an excellant job!

It has a new shaft with new magnets, plus new bearings. It is as good as new again and ready to give hours of fun.

I now own 5 Medusa Motors.

2 of the 36-60-1500kv motors
2 of the 36-60-2000kv motors
1 of the 36-70-2000kv motors

I didn't have a chance to get my hands on a 36-80-2000kv motor, but I have heard alot of good things about them.

I've ran a 36-60-2000kv motor in my E Revo for a long time now. At least 30 packs worth. It's never given me a problem.

I just took it out to install the 70mm motor.

After all those packs, this 60mm has ALOT of life left.

Metallover 07.27.2009 09:10 PM

I have a 36-50-3300 motor now and I stripped a mounting hole. What the hell can I do now...

We need a medusa rep to chime in and tell us more details about repairs and the old shop etc.

I love medusas, and I hate to see them go out of business.http://forum.zgeek.com/images/smilies/nopity.gif:cry:

I noticed you have to be careful which 3mm screws you use. Not all are exactly the same. For instance, the mounting screws Traxxas uses in the Slash are exactly 2.87mm. While most of the 3mm screws I have in my bin are 2.95mm. Yeah, it's pretty close, but enough to make a difference.

Dragonfueled 07.27.2009 11:16 PM

Wow guys I'm really bummed rite now. For 1/10th offroad they are the only motors I could find that ran cool with the small shaft. Seems like 1/8th has more options now but with a 3/16 shaft medusa ruled in my book. What do I do now. Really a shame

BL_RV0 07.27.2009 11:51 PM

This F*cking sucks.... Really Really REALLY bad. http://fc00.deviantart.com/fs14/f/20...oisonTouch.gif

FastXR 07.28.2009 06:50 AM

That really sucks, good thing they offered a 2 year warranty

dirtdiver 07.28.2009 06:17 PM

Noooooooooooo! This really suck's! I have had a medusa 30 -60-2000 in my losi
eight and ran it for six months now,and never had a problem ,always ran cool
and was fast for my buggy. Was going to order one for my losi 8t,and but now,
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! MEDUSA COME BACK COME BACK!!AAAAAAAAAHHHHHhhhh!

BrianG 07.28.2009 06:19 PM

I feel saddened as well. They were the best bang-for-the-buck motor out there IMO. I was slowly migrating away from the cheaper motors, and now this. I guess it's true; all good things must come to an end. :sniff:

MTBikerTim 07.28.2009 08:31 PM

What does this mean for Mike's Medusa clamp. Does this mean it will never be? I want one still. This does suck though.

Metallover 07.28.2009 09:45 PM

I would hope he still offers them, as I need one. I don't see why he would stop carrying them as medusa motors still exist.. I could be wrong too..

BrianG 07.28.2009 10:28 PM

Not to mention there are other 36mm motors around...

Metallover 07.28.2009 10:37 PM

So what are the best motors now? Neu 15 series are amazing, but too pricey for most. Neu 14xx series might be the hit ticket, but there aren't too many choices at the moment. The cc/neu motors are nice but there are only a few choices... The german motor, plett, lehner, hacker are pretty good if you can find one and pay for it...

Hobbycity motors are cheap but don't perform well. Fiegao motors get pretty hot and aren't up to par with performance standards... Great Planes ammo has a few choices but I haven't heard too much about them...

Castle doesn't offer anything inbetween the 10th scale TC motors and the Big guns, arguably leaving out slash, crt .5, any offroad 4wd... They are 2 pole too. Great in a TC, but not much else.

What did I leave out?

You forgot the tekin motors.

Tekin T8 motors are damn nice, run cool as the most expensive motors out there and are offered in a bunch of different kv choices. And at $165 seem to me to be a great deal.

No choices really for CRT.5 though if that's what you are looking for.

Metallover 07.28.2009 11:42 PM

Nothing really Neu/medusa design/quality under the big motors like the tekin, CC/neu, Neu etc.. A slash/rustler/jato need a good motor too. Sometimes the castle motors just don't quite cut it.

Castle is coming out with bigger motors for 1/10th use. Not sure if they'll cut it as far as something 4wd like the CRT .5 but if the VXL can handle it with lower gearing I'm sure the new CC motors will be fine. Neu 1506 and 1509 motors can be found for a good price though, might as well save up a few extra $ and treat yourself to a Neu.

I'm sad to see Medusa getting out of the RC market, I was planning on picking up at least 2 more within the next few months.

Metallover 07.28.2009 11:53 PM

If the new CC motors have a design similar to Neu I'm definately happy. Maybe they will too.

I hope he still does make them but he hasn't made them yet.

lutach 07.29.2009 11:01 AM

I know the economy is bad, but Medusa has been a popular motor for RC Aircrafts and now Vehicles so I thought they were doing good. So will this be another Aveox as they probably will get more $$$ from another industry that needs brushless and data products or are they just closing down for good?

Andrew32 07.29.2009 11:25 AM

sounded to me that they are just shutting down their RC division.

Medusa was also catching on in the FE Boats sector as well. I know a couple guys were running and testing the 36-70 and 36-80 motors.

hemiblas 07.30.2009 12:30 AM

I wonder if the bad economy did them in. Maybe sales were slowing and the repairs kept coming and they just couldnt make a profit. 2 year warranty was pretty nice, but given what we put RC stuff thru, it might have been too long.

Thanks for the heads up Brian. I might just send them my resume. No one else wants it.

superek4 07.30.2009 08:31 AM

Mike still sell medusa right I click n it did not show out of stock can I still buy?

Eh, just because they don't produce them anymore won't mean Mike will not sell what he has left in stock

hemiblas 07.30.2009 08:43 PM

But anything you buy will not have a warranty is what it sounds like. Unless there are some killer deals on these things, you might just want to stick with any of the other manufacturers.

suicideneil 07.30.2009 08:45 PM

Thats exactly right.

If the motor blows up at some point in the future, you have yourself a nice paper weight.

himalaya 07.31.2009 03:53 AM

I made a thread trying to let the Medusa guys hear my expectations for their future products, but now it seems the story has to end up there.
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20789

BrianG 08.03.2009 01:25 AM

This just figures. Tonight, the rear end cap of my 36-80-2000 motor came off (don't go reverse at high speed then hit a curb ). So now, I have to go get some red locktite and then maybe drill a couple holes at the end to add some small screws for extra insurance. It's not like I have to worry about the warranty now.
